    All action between the hours of 0940 and 1225. The main focus of this jaunt to the Airport station is to see the final Circus Train hand-off from Norfolk Southern to Amtrak, so naturally, we see some non-Amtrak trains in this video, including a single NJT Arrow III train, because I can't get enough of those lmao. Enjoy the action =)

      Anthony Pecoraro they are not pulling they take electricity from the overhead wires then transfer it to the rest of the train making each car push itself, meaning in theory one of the acs-64 can pull an infinite number or cars.

      I doubt that; do you realize how much scutwork AMTRAK locos do that is indirectly related merely to things like passenger service - but does NOT involve pulling passenger trains itself? (Some of it has shown up in videos involving the NEC.) Because some of the Sprinters are Diesel-Electric - NOT straight electric (therefore no need for caternaries), some of these same Sprinters are useful for that. I'm actually expecting that - at some point - some of the DE Sprinters will start being used for "ferry" service as older DEs retire. (The MDOT Sprinter(s) are used for "ferry" service between Ivy City and Bear (the ends of MARC Penn Line service) - notice that I said MDOT - not MARC (I've even mentioned seeing it @ Ivy City; that's what it is, in fact, for.).

      @cascaderails9340 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s also the Fast Mail which no longer runs. They had an AEM-7 pull a short train of boxcars along the NEC.

      @@PGHammer21A Sprinters are Electric. Chargers are Diesel-Electric. Diesel-Electric just means that it uses electricity to start the prime mover.

    19:29 freight train going over the NEC

    • @PGHammer21A
      @PGHammer21A 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Far from surprising; I've seen more than a few CSX (therefore freight - not passengers) merely between DC and Baltimore. While there are sections of the NEC that SELDOM see freight (the northern Connecticut section and the Rhode Island section, for example); there are reasons for that - those sections are more like the rail equivalent of US 1; single-tracked in each direction; not dual-tracked in each direction, like the majority of the NEC; the equivalent of an Interstate. The Philadelphia-DC section I am "intimately" familiar with - having travelled along it much - first between 1978-1980, then in 2000; it's the rail equivalent of Interstate 95. (In addition to AMTRAK and commuter rail, it also sees LOTS of freight - and mostly CSX at that.) Look at the videos of the NEC north of NYC - and compare them to the videos merely between NYC and Philly. NYC and Philly are like between Philly and DC; Interstate 95's rail equivalent - therefore, lots-o-freight; not JUST lots-o-commuter rail (though there's plenty-o-that, too). There also isn't as much of the NEC in some states (Connecticut, for example) shared with commuter rail - compare southern Connecticut and northern Connecticut with each other. I am COMPLETELY unfamiliar with the NEC north of Philadelphia; I have never used any of it. (The same applies to the Keystone Corridor west of Exton, PA.) That means I studied the footage of those unfamiliar sections with an eye toward differences with the southern section of the NEC - in addition to similarities. There is very little in terms of similarities between the northern section of the NEC compared to the central OR southern sections of the NEC - which are the most alike. (I have not seem a *cab ride* video - in either direction - of the MA sector of the NEC - so I can compare it to the rest of it; I suspect it will be most like the northern CT sector, as opposed to either the central OR southern sectors - despite all that T (MBTA).)

      One of them has more than enough HP to pull 60 cars. However, they are not built like heavy freight units, so they are lacking in adhesive weight to really get down an pull tonnage.
