- Should We Consider Chinese Watch Brands?
The sheer number of watches that are manufactured in China each year leads one to believe that the art and science of watchmaking have been practised in Asia for centuries! However, as we shall see, when compared to countries like Germany and the United States, China's watch industry is still in its young stages. Despite this, they've built themselves into a movement-making behemoth, arguably the largest of its kind in the contemporary era. Today, we have quite an impressive number of high-end Chinese watchmakers that have emerged and are now flourishing in and out of China. However, is there proof that these Chinese watch brands have what it takes to become top players? Will they make their way to collections across the world?

I have lots of Chinese watches in my collection, including Sea-Gull, Beijing, Tandorio and a Stuhrling Original tourbillon.
They all work well, are built well and look beautiful. No regrets...!!! :-D
Sea-Gull are good i have a couple .
All true, and all beside the point. Do I want to give my money to an oppressive regime getting ready to start a war in the South China sea, and which is buying up American companies and smuggling 17,000 operatives across our border every day? Amazing how short-sighted America is.
How about a lucky family watch I own two
As a manufacturing expert I am amazed at the level of quality at the given price point. At the rate of progress, they can probably deliver watches that matches the quality of highest end watches for a fraction of the price.
they allready do.check Steeldive
Absolutely. Some stunning designs and artisans. Many are a tremendous value too. I own Rolex, Omega etc but I will buy a Seagull 1963 for instance.
i think that some brands from China are surpassing Swiss Watches, my collection gos from Invicta to Omega with a good few watches made in China in between. but id bet a good many Swiss watches have parts made in China.
YOu mention Invicta? !! That's tasteless brand ! lol
@@vitocorleone8437 just because a watch costs as much as house dont give the owner good taste it just shows there daft. what do you find bad in invicta ? they keep good time and thats what its all about in my view.
@@vitocorleone8437 Everything is okay with you?
V informative video
Thank you for this video! Much appreciated :)
Alternatively there is a range of small companies that make homages, and use Swiss Japanese or Chinese movements. San Martin for example.
My steeldive 1953 is awesome runs at +1.3 sec a day I even took it diving
@@agprimeThank you. I have read many good things about it.
20 years ago I would have said no, but recently I have seen proper beautiful movements and carcasses built by Chinese watchmakers and they are starting to originate their own designs. Incredible progress
I have 2 Sugess watches. Excellent time keeping and quality
I just bought one today! the Agelocer from China it arrived and looks amazing.
I own a steeldive 1953 runs at +1.3 sec a day this watch is awesome coming from a micro brand.

My Agelocer tourbillon is stunning.
Well, most Swiss Calibre patent expired. Now calibre / case / strap parts Computerize
Yes how nicely polished all is possible. Be Selective when buying , same as others watch manufacturing countries
Hey, that's the Eaton Centre!
I wear a "lucky family" watch for now close to 10 years. Its a gold tone skeleton
Politics aside China is the superpower of now China make quality products and cheap products. We can see that in their EV industry. The issue with many countries is that countries like the USA and the EU countries do not like competition and enjoy having their monopolies. Western countries want to dictate to the rest of the world what products to make and set the standards. However the world is changing Swiss watches are over priced and its great that there are more choices now available. Consumers should not always follow the crowd. Do your own research on products you want and you would see that there is quality coming out of China. This applies to many products. The issue is that most consumers follow the crowd. Be adventurous take a look at Chinese brands they great. FYI ..... that's the reason why western countries place sanctions on certain countries....its to protect their own markets because they don't want new brands and products at cheaper prices saturating their markets.

Was a time when Made in China was quality and quality. I hope the watchmakers mentioned will keep alive this word .
Unless Ego is involved. Yes!!!!!
Its great to hear that Craftmannsship gets appeciatrd no matter which country they come from.
Not all Citizens are in favor of CCP but are forced to.
i own one.. seiko panda mod ^^♥♥♥ others is for sale ^^
The second I saw it on the thumbnail I knew it was perfect! All Sammy Gravano 's followers should chip in and get him the "Rat" watch for X-Mas ! What an excellent and thoughtful present.
Buying a watch just like an investment and china is not investable
Like to see more , printed on dial China Made
No we should not
Wu Xing 五星,not Wu Xi
they don't look to bad.
De momento no.
With Chinese craftmanship and know how, I am sure a Chinese watchmaker could physically produce a nice watch. However, I would never trust a Chinese brand due to pirating of intellectual property. In other words, how do you trust a Chinese brand to be genuine? Too much risk to throw money at an unknown brand "made in China" until they prove it.
True, But at the same time, if no one is willing to try then no matter how genuine or good a watch might be they will never be discovered/still have the same bad reputation
I own a Forsining skeleton mechanical automatic,a Lee-Eve Uwood sandalwood watch and an Olevs automatic mechanical watch model 9923, I happen to like all 3, the Forsining skeleton is a carved case and band, the wood watch is zebra stripe sandalwood and the Olevs is a copy of the Patek Phillipe and I wait for another one even now a version of the Reverso watch by DECTOP. So far I'm quite impressed with the mechanical watches since they seem to be reliable for tracking time and if worn properly and cared for my watches feel like they're going to stick around for a while! I love them especially with the cost of them, they're more accessible to most people and I have been having nothing but a great experience with them,in fact I get compliments on them, have people actually buy them from me and I have actually had someone try to steal one of them even‽ I adore my Chinese luxury watches!
I have nothing against Chinese watches, I own several, but given the CCP's increasingly hostile stance against Taiwan and intelligence gathering through Tik Tok and territorial grab of the South China Sea, I think wearing a Chinese military watch would be insensitive and in very bad taste, to say the least.
i just ordered a seagull.
do something about it sheep.
So you are telling me US company never do intelligence gathering?
@@Seanw-ij7yx Traitors and boot lickers will always be around
Why are you bothered with what China do within their territory? It's their business.
Even human trafficking? Genocide? Veiled nuclear threats against a sovereign nation? Out of sight, out of mind, huh, cotty?
Please don't show us these comunists here please and telling us should we support the corruption and other stuff.
The only thing they can do it’s to imitate. Not originate. Copy other brands
