Queens of the Stone Age are back with a new album, Villains. It's glammy, groovy and packs the rock 'n' roll punch we've come to expect from Josh Homme and company. They bring their swagger to our airwaves for a live performance.

For those that don't play bass: playing this line and singing is basically impossible. Mikey CREATED this. The most underrated bassist EVER.
Dude Mikey has always had good singing coordination whilst playing various instruments, I've always enjoyed that, especially in the early days of mini mansions playing the standing drum kit haha
My friend played me her record of this album 3 years after it's release, I heard every bit. I thought it was crazy. And I haven't heard any new songs since my USMC days in 2006
Just doing that Paul McCartney stuff
It is only impossible if you try to do it without practice
@west_ryder3089 It's only impossible if you DON'T try it, you mean
imagine making a Queens Greatest Hits. It'd need to be 3 discs long for a start
Their albums are all Greatest Hits for me.
"for a start" can't emphasize this part enough
Hell yeeeesssss jajajaj
Truth
This drummer is fantastic. Joey was good. But Dave Grohl was a complete monster on his watch.
It is so ridiculous how perfect they are live!! Holy shit. They are by far the tightest rock band I have ever seen live.
absolutely!
Never been to a single bad show of theirs. And every live recording sounds near perfect.
they're all fucking beasts. seen them twice and them crooked vultures once. Josh is different level tho
For real. This sounds like a studio recording
@@TrickK I saw them in around 2005, Josh was off his face and they were terrible. He was literally on another planet. Shame.
Put on headphones and check out the fat bass. Heaven
Josh McDerp ahh heaven
It's a great tone and damn fine playing
Mikey Shoes plays as good as he looks :P
Can feel the same about Josh Homme's guitar playing ^^
Jesus. Thank you
THE BASS TONE, OH MY GOD SOMEONE PINCH ME IT CAN'T BE REAL
Got that growl like a rick. I love it
this is by far one of the best qotsa songs IMO
I sat by the ocean make it with chu misfit love all better lol
this proves qotsa recordings are legit performances
fuck yeah man
Saw them last year and damn they're tight live!
Lol, was there ever any doubt? 😜
Apparently the drum track to The Way You Used To Do is a live recording with no correction. The claps are played on a left foot pedal trigger. QotSA is one of the most legit bands in hard rock.
Erik Brown fun fact, qotsa never used ear monitors until the middle of the Like Clockwork tour. Until then, you only see Josh wearing ear plugs.
Dean appears missing
Verdya Adli i whEEZED
If you look close, he's there. (2:35)
Keep your eyes peeled
Ridiculous
Ha Ha....
If you look very carefully, you can spot a wild Dean Fertita in it's natural habitat.
Zadel Snuiver you did well! Where? 😂
darkness?
dean is at 3:08 and at 2:35
MCLOVIIIIN
QOTSA are always going to be defined by their early, genre defining work. But this song is such a great example of a band progressing forward while never losing sight of their original selves. The talent level and sheer ability of the various ensembles over the years has skyrocketed since their original incarnation, and the culmination of that trajectory on this album is truly remarkable. It will get lost to most observers who have either moved on from QOTSA due to the changing times or have written this album off due to the involvement of Mark Ronson. But this album is really and truly an incredible body of work, and it stands up against anything they've ever done. The live performances really capture it in a way that maybe the recorded version didn't, and this video really drives it home. I'm so happy these guys are still making music, and here's hoping there's more ahead in the 20s.
That's what I'm talking about! QOTSA never stopped getting awesomer!
I couldn't agree more with everything you said. 👌
100%
Mark Ronson is the demise of good music.😢
@@phoebepalahniuk210 and yet even HE couldn't manage to ruin a badass album. he just lifted a lot of that good LIVE energy that usually bleeds through their recordings. listen to In Times New Roman yet? whole album of badassery.
p.s. i'm sure you've gotten it tons on YT, but i see yr handle...and that little Lego dude in yr photo looks nothing like Chuck P. is it a real relation or a Fantasy Nuptials 1st Round Draft Pick for someone named Phoebe?🙃 (if ppl can play fantasy football, why can't they play fantasy nuptials?)
Best song on Villains by a mile!
Best lineup yet. Every single member is extraordinary.
I respectfully disagree. The SFTD lineup can’t be topped
@@braydenmackie2204 facts
come on, Dave Grohl would have been awesome too.
I miss Joey Castillo...
When Natasha and Alain were touring, it was epic. Her keys and backups were legendary.
how could you not just smile playing a song this dope. That bass line is just so damn goooooood
5:21 me in the street listening this song
😂😂 Spot on
On a motorcycle...
@@AlejandroMartinez-fr6hj YES
I bet Joshua pay them to make that face 🤣
😄👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼
It's like watching a magician do his trick right out in the open and you still can't comprehend how it's done. Fucking magic right here ... all in one take and it sounds even better than the studio version.
3:45 "You can't upstroke your way into toughness" - Joshua Michael Homme III
Troy downstrokes the whole song, absolute crazy.
Josh singing and playing that riff is insane.
they're all fucking beasts
I am always amazed at what he can play and sing at the same time
Theodore is mechanically tight and a complete wizard on drums. He gets a lot of criticism following grohl and joey's styles but queens are making much more timing-critical songs and he's much better suited than the previous drummers at stopping tough songs getting sloppy.
Edit: Shoutout to Mikey Shoe's singing + playing complicated riffs prowess.
Stephen Williams grohl is the complete opposite of sloppy
Paul Armstrong But Jon is infinitely better. Check out some Mars Volta and One Day As A Lion songs, he's super technical and he makes it fit the song perfectly.
+Bird Expert
I agree; Jon Theodore is the best drummer QotSA has had.
They were/are all great.
I'm a huge Castillo fan, but you're right Brohemian Rhapsody.
I have watched this at least 3433949 times
please don't stop.
This might just be my favorite QOTSA song.... that bass sounds so good!
Most underrated band of all time. These guys truly are the best
RT
How are they underrated..? One of the most celebrated bands in the world…
They aren’t underrated, they should be even more popular but they’re extremely highly rated by like everyone
This is said a lot, but seriously...
Being able to do this in a STUDIO is amazing, and genius, and talented, and working with honesty and conviction.
Being able to bang this out LIVE?
Totally a different level.
Music is amazing, and musicians like this are why.
This has so much them crooked vultures vibes ! So good
Damn. Mikey Shoes is one stylish son of a gun.
I think that statement should be made for Troy.
With Theodore in the drums, this is the best QOTSA I've seen. They are complete and perfect.
Then you didn't see them right after Songs for the Deaf!
@@odenweller1313 this is the best version of the band.. with Dave 2nd best
@@janmeyjayshukla3276 100%. Dave Grohl on drums and Nick on bass. Nick brought a level of insanity to the band where you never knew what to expect. Langen too. I wish more bands would use multiple vocalists
@@odenweller1313 seen all incarnations, even saw Sons of Kyuss back in 1990 in a living room/house party in La Quinta, CA. THIS is the best version, to me. skillwise, Jon is easily their best drummer, though i'd like to see them just cut him loose on more than his nightly massive drum solo... his chops as displayed in The Mars Volta are amazzzing... but i get it...QOTSA is NOT a prog rock band, even if they do stray into a bit of proggy territory for a few songs each album. the drummer has to stay more or less on point, as JH writes from the perspective of POLKA music on much of their stuff... so it HAS to have that groove. So he stays in his lane, while giving the skins a nightly thrashing... Nick brought great, reckless attitude, but Mikey Shoes is the more skilled bassist AND singer (he's great singing in Mini Mansions)... Troy and Dean are sick with it... and of course, Joshua M. Homme as conductor of this wild train ride, taking us through all the twists and turns of this Matterhorn--nobody could do it, THIS, better.
Usually,
A lot of bands have a “weak link”.
This band doesn’t.
Nor do they have a bad song/album
Queens of the stone age are amazing, discovered them with my god is the sun and I haven't stopped listening since then .
Best group in decades
This has to be one of their best live performances of this song. Hands down my favorite QOTSA song.
Damn, I love these guys. They've always had a way of pulling this latent energy out of me, even when I'm exhausted. Can't help but wanna play air guitar and sing when I hear them.
Possibly the tightest ensemble in rock music ever. Fucking brilliant.
Can we just take a moment to acknowledge Mr. Jon Theodore on the drums. Holy shit. Next to Dave Grohl, best drummer they've ever had in QOTSA. Note to Josh Homme: Never let him go. He's the shit.
I still think Joey Castillo has the edge..... and I love Jon
Lol, Castillo is objectively worse than both Dave and Jon.
Yeah, but the sheer force he brought, it was like watching a bull play drums, lol, he banged the shit outta it
this
Looks like he has just come from the gym with what he’s waring - make an effort mate it’s a music video!
The face he makes at about 3:30.hes just like yeah nailed that again!
T I T tight. These dudes are incredible
QOTSA have been able to stay consistently and keep their sound while still mixing it up.
no joke. its enough variation that you can never accuse them of playing along to tracks, but still crisp and pro every time.
maintained exactly that, as well as being slightly sweaty the entire time
Mastery of your craft tightness here. Live studio recordings are my favorite to best understand how tight a band really is. Always a fan of bands that don't stay stuck in style forever too. Prolly my most listened to band of the past 20 years.
I love the insane fashion in this video. Josh has a flannel, Troy is in a suit, and Jon is wearing a sleeveless t shirt, and Dean is practically invisible, fucking lol.
Damn this songs poppin. Can’t get enough
I dont know about you, but, spectacular music. The drum beep, the angular riffs, smart lyrics, better in time.
The last bit of this song just bring on goosebumps !🤘
1:35 That guitar tone 👍
Octave pedals, man, sweet and glorious
There is a secret bandmember, named Dean Fertita, just if you were wondering...
Well, its not a secret anymore now that you told everyone!! :D
His guitar had half a second fame
Hes the secret weapon
does dean do some comic music videos/arts for QOTSA?
I don't think it's a secret he is on stage with everyone else live. I don't know why he never gets screen time though :/. He's a great guitarist and keyboard player. He also plays in The Dead Weather.
director: guys i got a great idea, let's focus on the rhythm guitar while the main guy plays a solo.
That shit kills me. 🙄
I mean foreeeeeal
Innit! Crapola camera work, way to close in...
This band never stops to amaze me. Performance tight as hell and perfect song. Those riffs are otherworldly!
QOTSA is such a great band i used to like a song here and there but after re discover them again, realised they have an incredible discography they have explore so many ways to make music and stay a true talented bad ass on the way always FANTASTIC musician in the band. I Like josh's smile at 03:31 they so nailed this perfomance
I still remember like it was yesterday . 2003 watching mtv stoned at night and go with the flows music video comes on.
I’m a freshman in high school.
I knew right then and there this was my favorite band of all time .
Here I am 21 years later and they are still my favorite band .
For me no one comes close unless it’s like a Led Zeppelin or something of that caliber
I will never skip this song or miss a video of them playing this.
this performance will never be topped, ever.
My favorite one.. gives me the shivers each time
THE most criminally underrated bassist on earth
The tightest band of modern rock.
Absolute favorite QOTSA song rn
Remeber hearing this song for the first time in Melbourne @ QOTSA concert. before they dropped the “ upcoming “ album - great song - instant enjoyment - nice blend of retro rock
Fuckin' love this band so much, been a big fan for almost 20 years, disappointed they didn't hit my city this album though. This band single handedly introduced me to a huge genera of good music. Through first hearing 'No One Knows', and then discovering Kyuss, I started listening to bands like Truckfighters, Colour Haze, Masters of Reality, Kings of Frog Island, Rotor, Sleep, Uncle Acid, etc, the list goes on and on of great bands that don't get airplay that are out there!
samesame. i semi-grew up in the same desert, saw Kyuss when they were called Sons of Kyuss, at a house party in La Quinta, CA. also once at a "generator party" at a place we used to just call The Nudist Colony (that's what it used to be, was abandoned and the desert took over...but still a good place for parties w/no cops).
anyway, i've been SHOCKED that they haven't scheduled ANYTHING in Las Vegas this time around. supersucks.
This is my favorite song off of Villains, just so much fun and the groove is fucking tight between every instrument.
This is a GREAT recording!!!!
TIGHT! TIGHT! TIGHT!!
Hell yeah, this is killer. This song is so massive and fun, and while the album version is great and all, they totally compressed the life out of it. This sounds more like it! Let it BREATHE.
It was great live in Detroit bought 3 years ago.
Best live performance ever for this song. Dope AF🔥🔥🔥
this song is a masterpiece
the Let's Rock shift is one of my favorite moments in music
This song is genius......this band is genius.....is there any other rock band that consistently hits you with the unexpected out of left field....never a dull moment....and always gives me something to inspire my own playing.......Long Live QOTSA!
I love this drum pattern from Jon. The single notes on the bass on drum on 1 & 2 is such a rad groove.
We need more music like this.
The perfect band! They are musical geniuses
So glad the video returned! And improved version..
How do I not sound like a robot by saying...how much your music has changed my life. Your unique sound and powerful lyrics have been a constant source of inspiration and strength for me. Thank you for everything you do-keep rocking!
1:37 Geez! I swear Troy's octave on his Telecaster can melt faces!
Jon Theodore’s drumming is so fucking sharp!
People really underestimate how important Troy is to this band.
Beast mode at 5:00. Love this song and band!
Im in love with Josh's guitar, i have no idea why it needs 9 strings but i love everything about that guitar!!
1:49 that bass 🤤
This Band was, is and always will be extraordinary! Amazing Quality!
Loving the new drummer! Perfect fit.
Can we get some love for Jon Theodore? One my my favorite drummers.
Satevo there’s a burn the witch live at record store where Jon does a drum solo and it’s phenomenal. I’ll try and copy it here 🥁
Satevo th-cam.com/video/JE4jktQItvw/w-d-xo.html
Ehh idk
Will ferre-errr, Chad smith is a bit higher for me
@@bazermaggie ty for sharing. They are so fudge fucking tight live. On my bucket list seeing them live. Hope you can too. Rock on dude/dudette
Satevo I was just thinking the same thing👍😎
usually I think jazz basses sound pissy af but Shuman totally kills it here, while at the same time rocking the backup vocals too. shoutout to this current lineup of queens for fucking killing it
@Peter Brightman It's a jazz, look at the pickups at 3:20
How the hell does he play that riff while also singing at the same time??
swiftripper Although it is tough it is possible. Took quite some time for me to nail it though. Difficult riff + easy lyrics goes well and vice versa. It‘s an even greater mistery how he does head like a haunted house in that speed.
i mean, he's one of the best in playing crazy stuff on guitar while singing
practice.... practice will get you where you want to be. If you want to be better than joshua homme, fucking practice!
mere life experience
@@lorddenselmichel underrated
I can't hear this song enough fucking times.
This is my favorite song at the moment! That groove is solid, and that bass line is bad fking ass!!! This shit influences me to write music!
The bass is utterly sick! Change my mind.
nope. mikey shoes is the boss on that bass... and he's a great singer in his own right.
I always forget how much I love this song.
getting to see these guys live, and playing this song along with the classics from songs for the deaf, made it one of the best nights of my life! these guys still rock harder than ever!
Какие же они охеренные! Хочется чтобы эта песня никогда не заканчивалась! Спасибо Вам, ребята!
God I fucking love it when they go turbo at the end there.
love seein the band more, but man, we need more homme time than that.. you're killin me here.
Simply the best
My son the player who owns the family talent introduced me to this today. All I can say is Satori, or a heightened enlightenment!
God I love troy’s solo so much
What colour is that Tele though... aztec gold with black pickguard, i dunno help
Yes sir, relic'd Azted gold, with a (I think so) bakelite pickguard. Reason I think it's bakelite is because it's not as matte as regular plastic, but also doesn't shine as much as a regular glossy pickguard would.
I think it's the fender Danny Gatton signature model but with a black pickguard
I don't think it is. He said in a short rig rundown that it was a custom color (and it's not a Danny Gatton cause de pickups are more like originals tele pickups ;) )
baster1369 Good point. Also, his tele is way more relic’d than the DG signature.
True! And it looks good IMHO :)
I still just love this band :)
Best line up
The Rock is NOT dead!
This slaps so freaking hard
Dear LB..
Me Love you.....
Smashing song from a smashing band. Tight AF
Saw them live 5 days Ago here in Lisbon. Best rock show I saw. Can't get any better then this.
mikey shoes best bassist of our generation
so very underatted
Heck ya, Mini Mansions and Wires on Fire...🔥
this is the stuff accident babies are made of
hahaha
True AF
Hahahahahaha
"I was gonna pull out but then they kicked into that outro riff and I lost control"
Let it long continue then
Alors, là, chapeau bas ! merci; merci et encore merci !....
