    Here's something I do with a looper.
    To practice learning the FORM of a song, record the MELODY first. For metal guys that might mean play the dweedley-dweedley bits to a metronome.
    Then practice playing the HARMONY (the chords, the rhythm guitar part) over that.
    Normally we think of working the other way around, lay down the rhythm part, then solo on top. Reverse that and it usually reveals some weak spots in your arrangement that you wouldn't have known about otherwise. It also allows you to use your musician skills to fit the rhythm section TO the soloist. That's what a good improv solo should be - the rhythm section supports and outlines the soloist. Practicing it the other way round makes the soloist the one who must stylistically adjust so as not to clash with the accomplish.
    Thanks Huge Arms Guitar Guy - Lumpy

    Best explanation of why to put looper in effects loop.

  • @ljuky
    @ljuky 6 ปีที่แล้ว +143

    I have this looper and it does the trick pretty good. It takes a little time to get in the hang of the way to manipulate the pedal, but it's great after that.
    In my own experience, sometimes you have to check the power connection just to make sure the pedal is getting power, cause I had a few occasion where I would not get the sound out of my amp and it was because the power cable got out of the connection without being visible.
    Also, a great use for a looper pedal is when you are looking for a certain tone, you can put it at the beginning of you pedal chain and record a part and after that do all the nice things to your pedals and amp to get the desired tone without any need to play the same part over and over again.

    Hey man, I love your channel, I just wanna add that you can run this little pedal off a 9 volt battery, it just requires a cheap cable I personally bought off AliExpress, this takes the connector/power supply end for the pedal on one side, then has a 9V battery connector on the other end. I bought a high capacity 9V (2000 mah) off AliExpress as well to power this little guy. Anyway, please keep posting, love your vids, cheers.

    • @GuitarMAXMusic
      @GuitarMAXMusic  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment. Have you been able to power this specific pedal that way? Reason I ask is that I tried to do that, and it didn't work. I tried 2 different cables of the style that you're describing. It only seemed to work with the adapter. Could be just me though.

    • @markopalikko6986

      Should work fine, could have been polarity issue.

    • @lobitome
      @lobitome 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Center negative is probably what the problem was. I made a custom adapter for a 9v battery with center negative instead of normal center positive, and it works still more than 2 years later. The 10 minute and unlimited overdubs makes ot a LOT nicer than a more expensive looper that only allows 5 minutes.

    Good review, just bought one of these yesterday. My 2nd pedal ever. I needed a looper to record a song for a youtube video. Not to mention it'll be great for practicing improv. Figured why not just buy the cheapest one if it works and has all the features I need.

      Don‘t know or use other methods, I just download backing tracks from YT, transfer them on my MP3 player. Plug it into the „aux in“ of the combo and record one selected backing track onto the looper. I jam over it and may delete the last layer(s) if not to my liking, to try again. I’m leaving the backing track as first layer. I also bought a cheap Mikrofone for fun experiments: adding sounds to the track made with my voice or with some items (bottle, whistle, harmonica, electric violin….etc)

      That's the best way, you're right!@@lone-wolf-1 By the way, i'm using it with batteries (both 9V and 9.6V ), just keeping in mind the right polarity (negative at center). Very funny toy!!

    • @lone-wolf-1
      @lone-wolf-1 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@territorio_salvaje So yeah, everybody does something else to fulfill their needs. As for batteries- I don't like the hustle and the costs and unreliability of them. So I plugged all pedals in via daisy chain in a high Ampere power supply. Just to keep in mind that for the needed ampere power of the supply, you just add up the ampere written on the pedals. Easy for me, because I use only four pedals (EH Metal Muff, Donner Giant Metal , Marshall Jackhammer and Ammoon looper) and one multi effect (Line6 POD 2.0)

    *Thank you, Maxxxwell, for recommending this great little looper pedal!* I've been agonizing over what to put in my first pedal board. My dream board runs over $600, which is way over my current budget. Thanks to your discount code, I got this looper for under $35 on Amazon-so, I'm off to a great start! Have you seen the *Donner Harmonic Square* octave pedal? For about $45, it has a lot of nice features. It's not as cheap as the Behringer UO300, but it's more versatile and may work better. An octave pedal would be great for laying down a bass line on this looper. You'll make a one-man band out of me yet, Sir Maxxxwell. Thanks again!!! P.S. You made a subscriber out of me in one video. :)

      I have this looper for playing on the street, and I lay the bass tracks down with a Zoom MS-CDR70. It's a multieffect unit the size and construction quality of a regular Boss pedal. It has a very good pitch shifting effect that made a few production pros go "whoah, I did not expect that" when engaged for the octave down.
      It costs around a $100, which is 2.5x times the Donner, but it will also work for chorus, delay, and reverb.
      My board for street work has a few Donners on it, but I don't think their digital pedals are much good, so I'd recommend against the Harmonic Square. If you really want a single mini pedal for octave, the Mooer Tender Octaver is very good.

    I have had this pedal for almost a year. It is a great practice tool - really allows you to see how good your rhythm playing is. I like to plug my acoustic electric into it, record an acoustic rhythm track, and then plug my electric into the pedal and put lead lines over top of the acoustic rhythm track. Only drawback - about every three months it goes brain dead, power off and on doesn't clear it, so I hook it up to the computer and download a previously saved loop to it and then its fine. I bought this one because it was the cheapest at the time - I think it's identical to the higher priced Donner and Rowin nano pedals.

      Kory Ladd no it just stops responding to inputs, i.e. the foot switch won't start/stop or clear it, cycling the power on/off doesn't do anything. Uploading a saved loop to it from the PC seems to reset it and then it's fine. It has happened about 3 times in the year that I've had it, and it gets almost daily use.

    So basically you can record a whole rhytm track for a song on guitar (as long as you nail it in one take), then add a leadguitar/overdub track and then move the file to your computer? If that's the case then this seems like a great pedal for making rough demos that you can send to your drummer/singer etc when writing songs.

    • @GuitarMAXMusic
      @GuitarMAXMusic  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yep! You can do up to a ten minute track on this looper, so you could probably even knock out a couple song ideas in one shot.

    I bought one of these , really do sound good. Best
    Practice tool ever! Great inspiration for writing. Yep
    Effects loop is a must . If you don't have one and you play
    2 distortion tone tracks, your amp will fart out trying to handle
    All the distortion at once ,the first track gets distorted a 2nd time.

    I have an Ammoon looper pedal but very different to the one you are reviewing. My amp has the send and return jacks at the back but i have never used them. I have used the XLR out puts when connecting to an external source but never quite understood the send and return part. Now that i know i am going right now to figure it out. Thankyou Max for that piece of knowledge.

    I'm afraid I must disagree with you about this being the best budget looper pedal. Lekato make a similarly priced looper which has lights clearly showing the timing of your "loop". This is invaluable as you don't have to remember or count when the loop starts making overdubs much simpler.

    • @ballsrgrossnugly

      Get your money back if you can, this pedal has been "updated" to a broken version that does not connect to the software and only comes up as a flash drive. You can tell which one it is by taking it apart and looking at the chip (old one was 2A, new broken one is 6A) and also the fact that they stuck an 8gig SD card in a holder on the bottom of the board rather than use the (probably faster) onboard memory that the old pedal had! This causes a delay when recording and a short gap between loop playbacks. Unfortunately since the software no longer works on this version I can't even upgrade the firmware! Total and utter SCAM. Report the seller that sold you that version.

      @@auntjenifer7774 BTW, it is more expensive but I went to my local reputable music store and purchased a NUX loopcore delux bundle for around $250 aussie dollars.
      Comes with a separate footswitch for changing banks etc easier on stage.
      It eats batteries, but it's solid as a rock and I have even made backing tracks to put on it and use on stage (it takes stereo WAV files from the computer and uses them as the "loop" track when you press the button) and it all worked perfectly on the night. It will hold something like 20 or 30 high res wav files for gig night.
      Just FYI in case you are looking for an at least affordable and really good, working pedal!

    I got one recently in white and it is awesome! I use it with my acoustic to add some solos and leads to songs. There is a little bit of a learning curve (timing is imporant) but once you get the hang of it it is great. Placement in your pedal chain is important or you'll end up adding effects to your loop.

      Your timing in hitting the looper pedal is off...it's not the looper...as soon as you would go back to the beginning hit the button basically at the same time you hit through chord to start your progression over.

Why even need a two guitarists when it can be only one guitar and the looper pedal is the second guitarists, or just play duel guitars and set to another rounds of small layer fill in guitar 😎👍🏽👍🏽
