    You do what I do when I want to familiarize myself with a certain place or city. I just walk around and I think it's the best way to get to know a certain place or city and it's culture.

    Hi Mergim, just a friendly tip. As much as we wanted to watch your videos early in the day, please upload your videos in the late afternoon between 5-7PM. I’ve noticed a lot of vloggers doing the same to gain more views because it’s the time the people are on their way home or already at home chilling. 😍😌😇

    We call those type of secondhand stores “ukay-ukay” (u-kai). We have an ongoing joke that if someone asks you where you got the clothes you’re currently wearing, you just say UK instead (since it’s imported and it’s close to the word).
    I think those carinderias are not places to eat at since they don’t have spaces for diners. Most likely just a place for workers or nearby neighbors to buy food to take home rather than eat there.

  • @general_sy
    @general_sy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    Hi Mergim, the vehicle that you saw at 0:42 is actually a modernized jeepney. The government plans to replace old jeepneys with these modern fleet since jeepneys cause a lot of air pollution and is very uncomfortable for passengers.

    • @MergimVlogsYT
      @MergimVlogsYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Aha, they do look a lot more comfortable and they’re definitely a lot quieter

    • @lionhearted1969
      @lionhearted1969 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @general_sy...They're not modern jeeps as they don't resemble anything jeep.:-). Actually, they are called beep or simply small bus by proponents. It is the commuters who erroneously call them 'modern jeep'. Yes, the remaining old jeeps which are still running on Cebu streets would soon be gone as their license will not be renewed anymore by the city government after expiry.

Even playing basketball with kids who have are wearing flip flops or no shoes. From an American who loves the Philippines.

    I studied in one of the universities in Cebu for College a long time ago and since then the City has changed a lot. Your Fuente Osmeña walk is so nostalgic. It brings back memories. There from P. Del Rosario to Jones then to my Aunt’s home in V. Rama where I stayed on weekends to do my laundry coz you can’t do so much laundry in the dorm. It’s been a long time….

      I took my licensure exam in cebu decades ago. I stayed near Cebu Doc and strolled the Fuente to Capitol to Guadalupe to Ayala areas. Been to Cebu again six years ago as part of my grad school activities. This story is indeed nostalgic for me too.

    The "bus" you keep on seeing are what we call as "Beep" its a hybrid between jeep and bus it it is fairly cheap between 10 -15 pesos depending on where you go. The person who usually stands and ask for the fair is called "conductor" and they will let you know how much the price is.

    Hi Mergim, you are now familiar with "carinderias" or the side street eateries now let me add something to your Filipino vocabulary, this word is "sari-sari store", in Filipino the word "sari-sari" means variety so the small side street stores you see selling a variety of stuff from cigarettes to softdrinks, beers, snacks, cellphone prepaid load eggs, sugar, rice, condiments, vegetables
    So next time you need something to buy you can just ask for the nearest sari sari store.

    Glad you're in my city! There are tons to do in the Queen City of the South and you'd be able to maximize your stay for as long as you know where to go so I suggest you plan out a city trip. Try visiting Temple of Leah, Sirao Gardens, Tops of Cebu, SM Seaside, Sto. Nino Basilica, Taoist Temple and Sugbo Mercado in IT Park. If you want a more island/province vibe, there are also loads of options to consider! So again, it'd be best for a well-planned itinerary if you're in Cebu. More power to your channel! 🏝

    Hi Mergim, just a suggestion if you do get a chance to print some small cards that you can hand out to people when they ask about your TH-cam channel name will be handy. There Is a lot print company inside the shopping mall in case you are wondering. Thanks

What you mentioned about the connection between 2 malls is common nowadays which is beneficial for customers! I wonder what will be the content of your next video. Keep them coming!🙂

    Thanks Mergim, nice blog. Cebu is a nice city, have been there 8 times now bec my wife came from there. Ayala is a beautiful mall, when you were outside overlooking the greenery and garden area, thats the terraces. SM mall is good also, one at mabolo reclamation area, and a huge one at south road properties called SM Seaside, My wifes good friend has a dental surgery right next door to bos coffee where you went. Enjoy your time in cebu, all the best from us here in new zealand.

    You should do cities or areas by season. For example, The Cebu Area can be for S2, maybe Western Visayas can be for S3, Mindanao can be for S4, and so on.

      @@libra7765 actually in Cebu and in Visayas most of our parents call deep fried chicken as adobo. And adobo in tagalog is humba in Visayas, which is kinda similar but only sweeter.

    Hey Mergim, hello from NYC. Glad you're able to come back after a brief stay in Thailand. We all watch your vlogs here and we enjoy the local interaction, specially when you're trying out the local sari sari store. You're definitely different from other bloggers, when your blogging about the local cultures rather than most tourist spots. I see that you have basketball skills, just the brief few times I saw you play with the neighborhood kids. That's cool!
