Thank you. Well done. This is exactly the information was I hoping to find and the area I wanted to find it in. My first 2 days in Cebu will be sleeping off jetlag I thought Red Planet Hotel near Ayala Mall. Then move closer to IT Park for the next 2 or 3 days. After that I'll be driving around cebo Island from place to place for another 10 to 14 days.
Hi Rod, your videos are always informative and up to date. Just wanted to chime in and say that SM City has the Radisson Blu right beside it and it’s usually where I stay when I arrive in Cebu City. Very convenient to have a high end hotel right beside an SM Mall. Anyways, keep the videos coming! 👍
Thank you for this video. I'm moving to Cebu in Feb, and you pointed to many areas I've investigated. I wanted to start at a condo near IT Park, and found a nice condo in LAHUG area (Mivesa Garden Residences), on Salinas St., north of IT Park, staying there for end of Feb, where I then hope to find a more long term condo stay. I've found Cebu to be very interesting and well equipped for western living. I love checking Cebu street side method on google, lots of fun, and just makes me more excited to get there. I've been doing my homework for many months, and believe I've made some good decisions for going there. My filipina daughter in-law told me to keep my housing budget low, around 12 - 17 thousand pesos per month. My budget is $1500 per month and I budgeted $400 per month USD for housing, so that shouldn't be a problem. I have a couple agents which I will get in contact with when I actually get my feet on Cebu ground, then start the search. Your videos are like candy to me, keep up the great work.
Cebu is one of the amazing place where I would like to live. So it is very useful for me to watch this TH-cam to familiar with Cebu. I'm looking forward to going there.
Thank you so much Rod for sharing Cebu city updates, missing the new developments , been away for a very long time and am planning to live there on my retirement years.
I don’t comment often, but have been watching you for a long time. I also recommend your channel to anyone asking me questions about the Philippines I’m in Cebu City now thru Sept 18 and again Oct 1-30. My fiancé and I would love to buy you dinner as a thank you for all the great info you shared We are at an Air B&B now, but in process of buying a unit at Marco Polo Residences
Thanks, Rod. I have been to Cebu many times, but the local long-term knowledge you provide fills in gaps in my knowledge. Thanks for your efforts. I should have added that the Quest Hotel is great, and the Mandarin Plaza was great, but it was still closed June 2022 there was work happening then to get it ready for reopening. I assume it would be open by now.
I enjoyed your Persimmon and flexible agreement with the Australian owner. I especially liked the lap pool , was in the shade before 9:30 AM. Excellent large shopping mall at ten minutes walk with best selections of computers
Hi Rod. 2018 I spent the day at Move and Pick Resort Mactan and enjoyed it very much. Would love to spend a few days there. So many Hotels, BNB's and resorts to chose from. Great information! 👍
Love videos like this… Question what is the name of that food market next to NuStar? You are right it was 90 peso toll if you are in a cab or van… That NuStar is going to have a pretty nice mall … But it’s a mall that looks like the types of shops at the airport … Sometimes however you can have issues finding a ride from the NuStar is you leave late… one time I waited 2 hours to find a ride…
Yes Rod that was me used to always go to Holiday Plaza i know that area well we stay at the Bay view hotel near SM always you have to book we tried there in June but was full beautiful breakfast to
Hey Rod! You took upon yourself a very tough task. It was not an easy assignment, but you did a great, comprehensive job! Your Tops hiking buddy, John PS. Hollywood is still calling me day and night after I was co-featured with you in your "Assault" on Tops" video.🙂
Last September I flew singly as an American man now 60. I visited Cebu, Angles City and briefly a taxi day trip to Olongapo. In 2 weeks, I'm heading back on pretty much the same itinerary but this time with my wife as she didn't seem interested in traveling there last year. Although she is still hesitant on going due to the poverty and "not pretty looking areas" she is going with me to see it first hand. We're staying at the Lex hotel this time where last year I was at Quest near Ayala mall. I know she will want to go to a few live music (for our age) Resto bars as I don't believe the Howling Dog would be good for her as I went there last year. Anyway, hope to have a great time as I did last year - just probably not any bikini bars. lol.
Good info Rod. Where to stay in a city unknown to you is always an issue. I need to find a place in Manila that has parking for about 10 days and if I can't find anything better I will be staying with a party of 6 in 3 Sogo garage rooms because this is a car buying trip. Relatives in Pasig were making suggestions but they hadn't wrapped their minds around we are going to have 3 cars if things go well and were suggesting nice places with Zero parking. A car is more of a burden than an asset if you don't have an assured place to park it, especially in cities like Manila or Cebu and take that into consideration before renting a car. Driving is in my blood but it costs me.
i heard there's mall near Lantaw II Corso maybe there's a grocery store there. It would be great if you visit that area for us. Just take care and drive safely. Thanks sir and have a nice day!
Great videos, Thank you. A request here please. What about the safest areas to stay in and the worst areas to stay away from. Gated communities instead of condos?
IT Park and Cebu Business Park have their own "police" force on site as well as each condo having security guards. I have heard Paknaan Mandaue City is a little rough still. I have not had problems downtown but some are afraid of it.
Thank you, I've stayed at Avida towers (IT Park) for three months . Regular Condo. And I went stir crazy LOL. I'm the opposite of a minimalist and used to a lot of space. A one bedroom maybe I could handle, But then the rentals are too much. So I was thinking staying outside the immediate area in a rental property, gated community or house rental would be more feasible. I am going back to Cebu begining/middle of 2024, plan on staying 5 or 6 months. Planning on moving there but I have to get a lot of things in order here (US Florida) before I can. This will be my forth trip to Philippines. Once again, Thank you for the great videos. @@AmazingPhilippines1
I like the music Cebu taxi drivers play most of the time. They have the old school romantic vibe going. When bodots starts playing, that's where i draw the line! Can't stand it!
For someone who wants to live here without a motor bike, maybe you have an idea how to get around without blowing the budget on taxis? (Not sure how viable Jeepneys are)
I like the MDE temperatures 60 to 85 all 12 months. Air quality better than the Cebu metropolitan area. The trash burning is observed on Mactan island in the late afternoon by viewing from Cebu.
A question for you all, Is it better to rent privately or use a hotel? In Thailand I've always stayed in hotels as I like the security of the front desk. Handy if you happen to meet a nice lady and she stays in your room for a nice night of deep chatting. What are your thoughts on that vs getting an air bnb, is it something you need to consider?
One block on Osmen from Fuente Circle is the Philippine Retirement Authority where I could renew my 3 year ID for my non expiring Senior Resident Retirement Visa.
Persimmon is 15 minutes walk from Ayala terraces mall ; has Green Apple (GA) dental on interior ground level. GA has the best dental teeth cleaning on our planet earth.
Hey im headed down there this weekend.. im looking for a place with a pool and not a problem to bring girls back.. maybe 50 usd/night in area with foot traffic
Thanks for the video. It is pretty disappointing seeing the old bars all closed up. I guess the lock downs and hard vaccine rules killed them all over the past few years. I would love to see a video on the Cebu bars one day, or what is left of them.
Lots of changes Dixon. 301 Ramos St Bar, Howling Dog, The Philly down the street a bit are about all that survived. 3 new ones that opened didn't last 6 months. Tourism is still hurting here.
Hi Phil, Thank you for your videos. We are considering Cebu and Iloilo for our up coming retirement next year. Would you do a video of best locations of Subdivision to consider that is safe and flood free area? Possibly areas with ocean view and access to nice beaches, 15-30 minutes access to nice beaches is ok also. What do you think of Talisay vs Carcar locations or other areas near cebu center proper? Will need to be close to good major hospitals, restaurants and shopping center. we dont want to be in Cebu City to avoid the traffic but we still want to be near enough for to access it when we need to. Thanks again in advance! -Laura and Dave
Rod, you mentioned you lived at Horizons 101 by Mango Square!??? I just cannot believe you didn't mention the Tower is LOUD and Has a known noise problem as most places around Mango Square suffer from HORRIFIC LOUD CLUB MUSIC ALL NIGHT !! People are selling their units as I was renting for 1 night before moving from 36 floor. The Outside Club music is legal to BLAST and destroys property values as it resonates the entire tower! I thought it was a rooftop bar. Insane, 7 days a week. Why you didn't mention this is puzzling. Especially us old timers needing to sleep. 🤔
I never lived at Horizon 101. I have did a couple of videos there. Most of the bars at Mango Square were shut down a few years ago. A friend who lived close says he does not hear the bar music anymore. Depending on which way you face anywhere in the PH, you will hear dogs, roosters, very loud motorbikes, karaoke, fiestas and church events.
They might have closed some bars but many opened and the Horizon 101 gets hit hard the entire 55 floors facing mango square! I was there Sept 7 1 night Airbnb 36 floor left next day, landlord admitted but never mentioned this is an ongoing problem, hence the sales of units trying to get out of investment
I was told that the pandemic killed Mango Square. Like the other red light districts across the country they relied on the foreign dollar for their profit margins and without that input and with reduced local traffic the businesses mostly closed because they were not profitable. The same thing happened all over, only the big really famous areas like walking street in Angeles and P. Burgos Street in Makati survived and they are a shadow of what they were in 2019.
The "pandemic" killed a lot of businesses and livelihoods but some of the damage to Mango Sq happened a couple of years earlier with a mayor making if difficult for the bars to remain there, I was told at the time.
I would be looking for a fairly new condo building that is: - not too tall (around 20 stories - afraid of earthquakes). - not to close to the shoreline and up on a hillside (afraid of tsunamis) - has good air quality (not close to industry, residential garbage burning, freeway pollution) - far away from: dog barking, karaoke, rooster, freeway traffic and industry noise - prefer to rent, instead of signing mortgage contract that would nullify ownership after 50 years. - has pool or a good gym in the building or nearby. - has good shopping and restaurants nearby. - has good walking/jogging spaces or possible trails nearby.
Hi Rod, good information for me coz I'm staying on Mactan Island in Airbnb . Nice tour .... still finding my way around. Could I get your email if authorized. Thanks Smitty

Thanks Robbie. Radisson Blu and Bayfront...my mind went blank for a moment while doing the video.
You might also try the Seda by Ayala Center. You can walk out the back door and across the lawn and get to Ayala without even crossing a street

I definitely agree about the parking Robert. I often see cars waiting outside of full parking garages waiting for someone to leave.
My friend would like to know the main area for freelances.
i heard there's mall near Lantaw II Corso maybe there's a grocery store there. It would be great if you visit that area for us. Just take care and drive safely. Thanks sir and have a nice day!
I have been to that area recently and did not find a grocery store.
Great channel, i will check your videos … Where to stay if I want to stay close to the action area ?
Many thanks.
If you goto Cebu for romance I would suggest Crimson Resort. Your lady will be most impressed.
I will have to check out more of those resorts Rick.

There are more buses running now but they get packed during the rush hours, so that is the best option next to jeepneys to save money.
