Brock is our QB - plain and simple - what the 49ers need to have the ENTIRE TEAM THAT IS BANGED UP back and healthy. the OLine needs a reamp - we need 4 more Puni drafts to protect our QB - the defense, needs help too but i would start at getting everyone back healthy and fire the defense coach. Not a scapegoat. he just isnt it. we had the same players last year and we were better.
Ayuk got paid, Deebo got paid, Bosa got paid a year ago, Warner is paid, Williams and McCaffrey too... Unconsciously those guys have accepted they won't get the big one, don't need the aggravation, and simply just aren't hungry anymore. They're human.
"should" ? Yes! But in reality, picking in the top 10 of the next NFL draft is way too tempting to not intentionally tank. The top 5 might be out of reach but top 10 is certainly still possible. But as long as there is a chance to grab that very mediocre NFC WEST divison they won't tank for sure.

They can mathematically make the playoffs but it's not realistic with all their injuries. You tank , get a higher draft pick and an easier schedule next year.

Purdy is solid. I dont blame him at all. Rest up all the vets and start the rookies and rest for the season. There's no point in making it into the playoffs and getting blown out the first game and have even more injuries.
IDK why people get hung up over stats by week. This player did this much within the first eight weeks of the season. The season is in eight weeks. Why try to win and make it to the playoffs just to lose their. This is definitely not the 49ers year. Also, Purdy has earned a contract, but definitely not in the 50s or 60s. He does seem like a good if you’re paying a QB 50 to 60,000,000 then I would think you would always have a chance at winning because they are that great! Regardless of injuries quarterback, but the previous years he’s had an awesome defense and a lot of star power.

The Purdy take is bad. If the Niner's don't already know what they have in Purdy at this point and need 5 more games to decided, they have failed. The Niner's have had an extreme amount of injuries, poor coaching in all 3 phases, the 2nd year running of the worst rest differential in the league and horrific off the field tragedies while clearly suffering from a SB hangover. And yet Purdy has clearly been their brightest and most consistent spot all season to anyone not wearing their "but he was the last pick in the draft for a reason" goggles.

This was one of the very few games that Purdy has not be able to keep the team competitive in, with a lot of it owed to performance by the run game. However, i still believe in Brock to lock this kid down for the longterm. This season has been brutal and even the greats have down years. I legitimately don't know what Purdy has to prove that players like Goff and D Jones, and Trevor haven't (get well soon). Similarly someone like Kyler got the bag when it was his turn and, God forbid, Dak got the bag. Purdy has done more in his three years than those folks combined from a success metric. So yeah, we pay him. End of story.

I think it's a great opportunity to continue to see what other talent they have available in their depth chart if they are focused on effective succession planning. By necessity, they've been able to do that so far with their RB (with Mason and Guerendo) and WR (with Jennings and Pearsall) but what about TE? Kittle, as durable and prolific as he is, isn't going to play forever. What other TE prospects do they need to play more this season to give them a better assessment of existing and future talent? The same holds true at many other positions.

Brock has saved this team from 2-10 season. The defense with all the injuries under Sorenson has been horrible and ST has killed us all season. Get rid of Sorenson, Moody and make an effort to fix ST is a start. Brock is way better than Smith or Darnold. Seattle or Minn will not beat Detroit in the playoffs much less Baltimore, Buffalo or KC.

I totally disagree about Purdy. His draft position is irrelevant now. He's shown he can take this team to a Superbowl. There are other QBs like Trevor Lawrence and Dak Prescott who have signed huge contracts and still not looked like taking their team to the championship. Part of me wonders if this is Rich's effort to push Purdy to the free agent market so he can sign for the Jets. You can't tell me there aren't at least a dozen teams who would pay Purdy $40/50m a season over 5 years if SF passed. The guys is entirely worth it.

It’s ridiculous that this is even a conversation. Competent QB’s in the NFL are hard to come by. They’d be insane not to get younger and try and build around him.
First, Purdy is a top five QB in the league or at least statistics bear this out. Mock him if you must, but he has produced. He is accurate and reads defenses very well. Nevertheless, I think he will sign five years at $200 mil. This will leave room for the Niners to sign other players. There is not a QB in the 2025 draft that is better than Purdy. Looking at last year's draft, the closest QB to Purdy's 8.4 YA is Daniels at 7.8. Maye is 6.6 and Nix is 6.4 and Caleb is 6.4. Purdy is the same age as Nix and Penix, yet has more than two years NFL experience. While injuries are a part of the game, Purdy has had to deal with more than usual. The Niners are not losing because of Purdy. The suggestion that the Niners should pursue a free agent QB is absurd. Darnold, Fields, Wilson and Smith are the only decent QBs out there. Niners had a good look at Darnold last season and passed on him. Wilson is in decline. Smith has only one win against Purdy and that was on a touchdown run in the last 12 seconds. Fields need to be rehabbed as a QB after his time in Chicago. Stop and think about this. If the Niners don't trade for Lance, worst case they use their original first round pick on him and still have two more first rounders and a third. That is talent they sure could use right now. The big mistake this season is giving more money to Williams, CMC and Aiyuk. Should have traded Aiyuk this past offseason, let Williams play or hold out, and let CMC have the year off to rehab his injury. Now is the time to get the rooks some playing time and let the vets rest. Get Cowings in the game. Niners have no choice but to start Guerendo this week. If the Niners win, great. If they lose, so be it. Everything will take care of itself. Just need Lynch and Shanahan to make smarter choices this offseason.
Niners left guard, center and right tackle have been worse then mediocre all season. Their best olineman Trent Williams has missed several games due to injury. Against Buffalo Niners were missing starters at left tackle, left guard and ofcourse the 49ers top wr is out for the season. But Purdy is supposed to look special? The last time Mahomes had half the oline issues the 49ers do, he was shut out in a Super Bowl blowout loss to Tampa.
The easier stretch of the 49ers schedule is on for the next 3 games. They can win those games, and then some injured players will hopefully return in time for the Lions game if not sooner. If they beat the Lions then they should also win the last games against AZ. I understand for most people it sounds out of reach, but the opportunity still exists. For so many years the 49ers have been a quarterback away from greatness. Some great teams, but either a crappy or average QB. So now they finally have an elite QB in Brock Purdy, but other than Purdy and a few other players, the entire team is either injured or just sucks. And copies of Shanahan's playbook seem to have been provided to every team in the NFL.
Injuries are one thing but when the league allows teams to fleece your coaching staff every season it makes it harder to have consistency. 3 defensive coordinators and 2 different offensive coordinators in 3 seasons.

For everyone wanting Darnold back, Sam has an improved oline, top receiver in the league and a top 10 defense this year. Purdy, with a missed game and injured roster, has 150 less passing yards, the same avg yards/game, and 4 fewer all purpose TDs with the struggles Niners have had in the redzone. Imagine if Darnold were back there. It would be worse.

I do disagree with Rich though that Purdy has to somehow prove anything in a season that has been worse in terms of injuries and personal tragedies than the 2020 season, and that season was atrocious for the Niners. Purdy may not get the 55+ outright, but through heavy incentives (pro bowls, all pros, playoff wins, etc.), I definitely think he can and will earn that figure. Look at it from the opposite angle - Purdy needs to see something from the Niners that shows they are serious about getting O-line shored up and play calling improved. Purdy is not a character who puts money as 1st priority, but if he gets a lowball offer, I'd say play out his rookie contract and find a better spot elsewhere.

I was at the game as a 9er fan. The three of us drove to the stadium knowing we had maybe 5% chance of winning that game given the injuries and just general inconsistency all year. They absolutely should shut it down. Why risk career threatening injuries to Warner and McCaffrey for a small sliver of hope to make a wild card? Pride? They lost their pride in the three division games they blew late after having double digit leads in the 4th. There's your season. Had they won those division games they'd be 8-4 leading the division, and even if buffalo beat them by 65-0 it wouldnt have mattered. Besides there's no crime in a very good team having a hangover season. I'd shut the key players down (or play them less) and assess the retooling they need to do in the off season. Sorensen and their special teams coordinator should have been left in Buffalo so I imagine they'll be toast. They need an autonomous GM (Promote Lynch to President) and they need a new offensive coordinator to assume playcalling so that Shanahan can focus on game time coaching. They need an influx of younger, solid talent to develop. Some of their core guys are older, a bit more injury prone or just not as productive. It happens.
Brock is going to get a long term contract. not in the terms of today's QB market. I think he gets 40-45 mil a year. You need a friendly QB deal because in 26 the piper is coming calling from the Salary cap.

Brock is our QB - plain and simple - what the 49ers need to have the ENTIRE TEAM THAT IS BANGED UP back and healthy. the OLine needs a reamp - we need 4 more Puni drafts to protect our QB - the defense, needs help too but i would start at getting everyone back healthy and fire the defense coach. Not a scapegoat. he just isnt it. we had the same players last year and we were better.
Ayuk got paid, Deebo got paid, Bosa got paid a year ago, Warner is paid, Williams and McCaffrey too... Unconsciously those guys have accepted they won't get the big one, don't need the aggravation, and simply just aren't hungry anymore. They're human.

Purdy is solid. I dont blame him at all. Rest up all the vets and start the rookies and rest for the season. There's no point in making it into the playoffs and getting blown out the first game and have even more injuries.

IDK why people get hung up over stats by week. This player did this much within the first eight weeks of the season. The season is in eight weeks. All these comments about Brock. Like…we need to evaluate him in the next five games is ridiculous. He’s done more in his first three seasons than Montana did. Check the numbers. Montana was a rookie in 1979. He was 21-28 after his first three seasons.
This was one of the very few games that Purdy has not be able to keep the team competitive in, with a lot of it owed to performance by the run game. However, i still believe in Brock to lock this kid down for the longterm. This season has been brutal and even the greats have down years. I legitimately don't know what Purdy has to prove that players like Goff and D Jones, and Trevor haven't (get well soon). Similarly someone like Kyler got the bag when it was his turn and, God forbid, Dak got the bag. Purdy has done more in his three years than those folks combined from a success metric. So yeah, we pay him. End of story.
Neither QB lit up the board as it was a snow game. The major difference was the 49ers fumbled the ball 3 times and the Bills had 220 yards rushing.

I think it's a great opportunity to continue to see what other talent they have available in their depth chart if they are focused on effective succession planning. By necessity, they've been able to do that so far with their RB (with Mason and Guerendo) and WR (with Jennings and Pearsall) but what about TE? Kittle, as durable and prolific as he is, isn't going to play forever. What other TE prospects do they need to play more this season to give them a better assessment of existing and future talent? The same holds true at many other positions.

Brock has saved this team from 2-10 season. The defense with all the injuries under Sorenson has been horrible and ST has killed us all season. Get rid of Sorenson, Moody and make an effort to fix ST is a start. Brock is way better than Smith or Darnold. Seattle or Minn will not beat Detroit in the playoffs much less Baltimore, Buffalo or KC.

I totally disagree about Purdy. His draft position is irrelevant now. He's shown he can take this team to a Superbowl. There are other QBs like Trevor Lawrence and Dak Prescott who have signed huge contracts and still not looked like taking their team to the championship. Part of me wonders if this is Rich's effort to push Purdy to the free agent market so he can sign for the Jets. You can't tell me there aren't at least a dozen teams who would pay Purdy $40/50m a season over 5 years if SF passed. The guys is entirely worth it.

First, Purdy is a top five QB in the league or at least statistics bear this out. Mock him if you must, but he has produced. He is accurate and reads defenses very well. Nevertheless, I think he will sign five years at $200 mil. This will leave room for the Niners to sign other players. There is not a QB in the 2025 draft that is better than Purdy. Looking at last year's draft, the closest QB to Purdy's 8.4 YA is Daniels at 7.8. Maye is 6.6 and Nix is 6.4 and Caleb is 6.4. Purdy is the same age as Nix and Penix, yet has more than two years NFL experience.
While injuries are a part of the game, Purdy has had to deal with more than usual. The Niners are not losing because of Purdy. The suggestion that the Niners should pursue a free agent QB is absurd. Darnold, Fields, Wilson and Smith are the only decent QBs out there. Niners had a good look at Darnold last season and passed on him. Wilson is in decline. Smith has only one win against Purdy and that was on a touchdown run in the last 12 seconds. Fields need to be rehabbed as a QB after his time in Chicago.
Stop and think about this. If the Niners don't trade for Lance, worst case they use their original first round pick on him and still have two more first rounders and a third. That is talent they sure could use right now. The big mistake this season is giving more money to Williams, CMC and Aiyuk. Should have traded Aiyuk this past offseason, let Williams play or hold out, and let CMC have the year off to rehab his injury.
Now is the time to get the rooks some playing time and let the vets rest. Get Cowings in the game. Niners have no choice but to start Guerendo this week. If the Niners win, great. If they lose, so be it. Everything will take care of itself. Just need Lynch and Shanahan to make smarter choices this offseason.
Niners left guard, center and right tackle have been worse then mediocre all season. Their best olineman Trent Williams has missed several games due to injury. Against Buffalo Niners were missing starters at left tackle, left guard and ofcourse the 49ers top wr is out for the season. But Purdy is supposed to look special? The last time Mahomes had half the oline issues the 49ers do, he was shut out in a Super Bowl blowout loss to Tampa.
He got to an NFC Championship and a Super Bowl in his first 2 years Rich. We are happy with him, this is a horrible take.

For everyone wanting Darnold back, Sam has an improved oline, top receiver in the league and a top 10 defense this year. Purdy, with a missed game and injured roster, has 150 less passing yards, the same avg yards/game, and 4 fewer all purpose TDs with the struggles Niners have had in the redzone. Imagine if Darnold were back there. It would be worse.

I agree that the 49ers arent the type of organization that just tanks a winnable division, even with such a small margin for error. I do disagree with Rich though that Purdy has to somehow prove anything in a season that has been worse in terms of injuries and personal tragedies than the 2020 season, and that season was atrocious for the Niners. Purdy may not get the 55+ outright, but through heavy incentives (pro bowls, all pros, playoff wins, etc.), I definitely think he can and will earn that figure. You can't justify paying him so much less when guys like Trevor Lawrence and Dak Prescott have done absolutely NOTHING in the postseason and make much more

Look at it from the opposite angle - Purdy needs to see something from the Niners that shows they are serious about getting O-line shored up and play calling improved. Purdy is not a character who puts money as 1st priority, but if he gets a lowball offer, I'd say play out his rookie contract and find a better spot elsewhere.

I was at the game as a 9er fan. The three of us drove to the stadium knowing we had maybe 5% chance of winning that game given the injuries and just general inconsistency all year.

Besides there's no crime in a very good team having a hangover season. I'd shut the key players down (or play them less) and assess the retooling they need to do in the off season. Sorensen and their special teams coordinator should have been left in Buffalo so I imagine they'll be toast. They need an autonomous GM (Promote Lynch to President) and they need a new offensive coordinator to assume playcalling so that Shanahan can focus on game time coaching.
They need an influx of younger, solid talent to develop. Some of their core guys are older, a bit more injury prone or just not as productive. It happens.
Think if they had not traded up for Lance how much more talent they would have.

Brock is going to get a long term contract. not in the terms of today's QB market. I think he gets 40-45 mil a year. You need a friendly QB deal because in 26 the piper is coming calling from the Salary cap.
This is a ridiculous conversation to me. The amount of injuries the Niners had was obscene. They ts not the normal one or a few guys out. I’m ts over 10 f their best players- many top 5 or 10 at their position. And Purdy is the second best QB to lead them when they have their players. Too 5 definitely.
