  • Heading deeper into north east Wales, I head away from Kinnerton station in search of bridges. After a non bridge fest I come across a potentially intriguing railway relic. Gain access to another almost fully extant station, before finishing this latest explore at the inaccessible site of Hope Exchange station.

Seeing Hope Exchange is a reminder of what we used to have. It's similar to stuff down here, just hints and whispers of a railway. Looking forward to the next part.

Thanks Bob. There a few like that. The only one I can think of that still exists is Smallbrook Jct on the Isle of Wight.

Fabulous presentation, as with the first two parts previously, thoroughly enjoyed every moment. This route is especially poignant for me, as I live in this area. Magic, thankyou for your brilliant work.

Cheers mate! And what a journey it’s been. So many surprises as well, on the way. Under the bridge just north of kinnerton station was the biggest stunner. Walked over it hundreds of times and never knew what was underneath. Can’t wait to see the onward journey to Mold. Good luck! Keep up the amazing work. Seriously, absolutely love it. Si.

Very interesting! I grew up in Higher Kinnerton in the early ‘70’s and clearly remember the now-demolished (brick) bridge at the beginning of the video.
The main road near Kinnerton sta ran below a brick overbridge. The road was diverted to its current location but the bridge and former road is probably still in the undergrowth.
In those days one could walk along the trackbed inc beyond the now-infilled section by the main road bridge. Presumably the tracks had only been lifted several years before.

Hi Stephen, thank you. The tracks at Kinnerton were lifted in 1970. I explore the site in the previous part & found the road slope on the western side of the station. Take a look at it on my channel.

Thanks-just watched part 2. I clearly remember driving under that bridge, and later when the road was redirected/station platforms demolished. Probably around 1976 when I was 7 yrs old!

Hi Bob, Great video, you found so much that is hidden out of sight. Big thanks to Ray for giving you access to his garden at the old Hope Penyffordd Station, he's really looked after it well.
Your graphics on the exchange junction were excellent.
Lovely skewed bridge at the start too.
Look forward to seeing the next episode. All the best!!
PS Did you have a wander up on Portsdown Hill after visiting Portchester Castle?

Thanks David. We walked up the hill as we initially visited Fort Nelson but it was pouring with rain so didn't hang about too much. Quite a bit in the fort about the railway though.

Pity you didn’t go down Kinnerton Heights, a small cul-de-sac in Higher Kinnerton - there’s a section of the embankment between the sites of the bridges at The Green and Bennett’s Lane which is clearly visible (currently owned by the house at no.8). Along Sandy Lane you can also see where the rear gate into 20 Beeston Road is pretty much bang on the line of the old trackbed, with sections of the trackbed SW of there now being owned by the houses along that side of Beeston Road.

Hi Gareth, thank you for your comments. I did visit the embankment between Green and Bennett's Lane. It's very impressive and pronounced but alas not everything can go into the film.

@@PASTFINDERexploring I get that. There's only so much you can fit into an edit! I live very near the old trackbed in Kinnerton. Looking forward to the video series reaching Mold as that's where I grew up - can remember an occasional train crossing the Denbigh Road on its way to Synthite, and walking my mate's dog along the track in the early 80s not long before it was lifted.
