I really don’t understand why Apple can’t make an option to sync this. I want to see over my tasks also in a calendar view as well to know how many tasks (reminders) I have for each day etc. for that I just need to use other apps and that is frustrating.
I was very excited for this as I'm looking for a way to sync both. It was almost perfect until I realised Fantastical uses calendar sets, instead of showing me a list of calendars in the sidebar that I can simply toggle on or off. Great video tho!
Chris, fine video, but I feel the underlying tactic misses the mark and it takes more effort than the following approach: * If a task needs to be done on a particular day/time, put it only in the Apple Calendar. * Otherwise, put it in the Apple Reminders app and put it into one of these lists: * Do Today (but not a a particular time). * Soon. * Waiting (on someone to do something). * Everything else. Move tasks from list to list as appropriate. Resequence the tasks up and down the "Do Today" list according to your priorities. As an alternative in Reminders, put all the tasks in one list, give it sections corresponding to the lists above, and view it "As Columns". Move tasks from column to column. If you like this approach, you are welcome to make a video on it and make it your own.
Chris, well your response implies that you are merely sharing your preferred methods in your videos. - - - An alternative is to present multiple methods so that viewers can pick and choose the one's they feel are best for them.@@chriscardoso
This is great and inspired me to try it out. When I logged in my icloud on fantastical however, it didn't port over my reminders to the calendar set despite me granting permission in both fantastical and mac settings. Any ideas why, anyone?
Great video, thanks! This is actually the first time I’ve seen someone make a quick compelling case for why I should use Fantastical. I was considering starting my new year with Todoist, but I’d have to pay for their premium version just for calendar integration. Btw, with Fantastical (unpaid version), do you know if what you did in this video will work with a Google calendar? (Or does this only work with an iCloud calendar? - the dragging/dropping/integration with Apple Reminders)
I don’t actually think you need to pay for premium in order to link Todoist with Google Calendar! I’ve got my Google Calendar synced into the Apple Calendar app and you can drag reminders into the app and add them that way too!
When you add a task from Apple Reminders in Fantastical defaults to 45 minutes and cannot be changed. In Apple Calendar, you can drag reminders and adjust the time accordingly!
What about Windows? Is there another app or way? I switched entirely to Microsoft To-Do a couple months ago because I really needed to be able to organize everything on all my devices, iPhone, iPad and Windows PCs, but I really miss some parts of Reminders.
Why not just recreate everything inside Fantastical, from scratch. Both calendars and tasks. That way we avoid any risks associated with inter app sync. Is that doable with the free version.
I believe that’s possible in the free version. I like the idea of seeing the reminders from the Reminders app in my calendar. This will also be native functionality in iOS 18 with calendar and reminders.
This is a great video. I have todoist but ran into limitations when trying to add event's by asking Siri to add a reminder since it' doesn't recognize the voice commend of "create a task in Todoist". Very frustrating. Have you used voice comments to create tasks or calendar events in Fantastical? If so, how'd it go? I need this syncing feature. Even syncing between my phone, iPad and laptop doesn't always go as planned since my laptop is old and needs to be upgraded.
When you DL fantastical do I have to have it on my desktop and my phone? I can see dragging and dropping on the desktop. but how do you handle reminders and calendars when your out?@@chriscardoso
If you’ve got the integration between reminders and fantastical set, there’s no dragging and dropping needed on your phone. If you create a task in fantastical or a reminder in reminders, they’ll sync between the two apps automatically.
Very nice thanks. I presume when you are creating a calendar event yourself, you use Fantastical itself, right.. while letting people send you events created by them in your other calendar accounts, into Fantastical? That's the only way I can see this working if I don't want to be looking at several calendars every day.
Correct. I typically have 4 calendars: my personal calendar, my work calendar, my spouse’s calendar, and our joint calendar. All events and invites get sent to my personal calendar. This system seems to work best for me!
@@chriscardoso after watching your video i download it and using. Being it shows but i ignore so far as you shown all process i done its working good 😊
Google manages events and remainders in one single app, the Google Calendar. The events are... well... 'Events', and remainders are 'Tasks'. The only problem is that Google forces you to assign a date, so you can no make, for example a list.
@@travisbickle2010 Exactly. Reminders doesn't have the necessity to have a date or time assigned. So, that's my point. Like, if you have something to do that has date and time, it's a calendar thing. If not, it's a reminder thing. That's what I mean when I said that they're different things.
Why aren’t fantastical and reminders syncing? I created the one time password through the link you provided. If I set a reminder in reminders it doesn’t show up in fantastical
There are a few things that might be going wrong. 1. Check Fantastical’s Settings and select “Accounts.” Make sure that “Show Reminders” is checked. 2. Then click into “Calendars & Lists.” From here, you can select which lists in Apple Reminders you want to sync into Fantastical. Hopefully that helps!
I just don’t get why this isn’t a default feature for Apple products. Really behind in my opinion. Thanks for sharing an alternative!
Right! I don’t understand why Apple doesn’t allow you to by default. 🤷🏻♂️
@@chriscardoso good stuff...may it makes more sense to just move to something like Amplenote
I was about to give up on the ipad, until you showed me this. Thank you so much.
This method still works super well! But you can do this natively with iOS 18 now. I’ve got a video on it!
I'd love it if I could drag an iMessage into Reminders. Hopefully Apple fixes linking in their native apps with future OS updates.
Ohh, that’s a cool idea!
probably they won't as they seem to outsource the programming to subsaharan people.
I really don’t understand why Apple can’t make an option to sync this. I want to see over my tasks also in a calendar view as well to know how many tasks (reminders) I have for each day etc. for that I just need to use other apps and that is frustrating.
Apple is making a sync between the two in iOS 18 and it comes out next week!
I was very excited for this as I'm looking for a way to sync both. It was almost perfect until I realised Fantastical uses calendar sets, instead of showing me a list of calendars in the sidebar that I can simply toggle on or off. Great video tho!

There is definitely still a free plan!
@@chriscardoso I can only see a 14 day trial. After that it’s quite expensive.

Does the "Calendars & Lists" menu in Fantastical show your iCloud account email address and reminders?
The Apple one time password this was something I never did at least not in that way! Glad you showed what to do! Nice process once it is done.

It’s definitely free!
Wow, thanks so much for creating this video! It’s an excellent tip. Thank you!

okay… so now the ios 18 synced them automatically and i don’t want that, would you know how to unsynce them?
I’ve got a new video walking through this. Essentially you open the list of calendars and uncheck “scheduled reminders” and you should be good to go!

This will be a default in Apple calendar and reminders with iOS 18!
Very good advice. Thank you.
Can you add duration of your task, not the event, the task?
When you add a task from Apple Reminders in Fantastical defaults to 45 minutes and cannot be changed. In Apple Calendar, you can drag reminders and adjust the time accordingly!
What about Windows? Is there another app or way? I switched entirely to Microsoft To-Do a couple months ago because I really needed to be able to organize everything on all my devices, iPhone, iPad and Windows PCs, but I really miss some parts of Reminders.
I love Todoist for that very reason. It’s cross platform (iOS, Android, Mac, PC) and syncs with Google Calendar to show you tasks as events.
Why not just recreate everything inside Fantastical, from scratch. Both calendars and tasks. That way we avoid any risks associated with inter app sync. Is that doable with the free version.

I don’t really know what’s the need of it. Events and Reminders are completely different things. You really don’t need to merge them.
Just personal preference. I tend to time block my calendar with tasks. Works for me! 🤷🏻♂️
I disagree. Having everything to do that day in one place is important and helpful.
I’ve always wanted them together. It just makes sense …
