- What is up, everyone? MooseMike here with my first "how-to" video! Today I am going to show you an easy way to fix your PS4 disc drive if it's not accepting discs or if it's not ejecting discs properly. Enjoy everyone, and don't forget to like and subscribe! I accidentilly took out the roller with the gear any fix
@SGT. Moose Is the roller that's connected to the white gear supposed to roll/spin or not? I cleaned my Disc Drive rollers yesterday and noticed that the roller next to the white gear is not rolling/spinning. So i'm wondering since it's my first time cleaning my Disc Drive.

Hey I live in Australia, at my local game shop they said it would cost me $150 to get my disc drive fixed and that it would take 3-4 weeks and possibly loose save data, I found this video and My dad and I managed to fix it and nothing went wrong, thank you so so much for this video, it saved me 4 weeks and $150, thansk so much, words cant describe how happy i am.

this video literally just saved my life, i couldnt put any discs in and couldnt figure out why. turns out somehow the disc guard to prevent discs from coming out was up and this was the only video i found that mentioned that and how to get it to come down. thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤❤❤❤

Thank you, my drive is now fully operational again. I popped those grey rollers out and used a paper handkerchief and rubbing alcohol to clean them. The handkerchief was brownish-grey afterwards. I got the system about 1.5 years ago from a heavy smoker, non-working because of overheating. Stripped it down to the core (yes, literaly) and had remove about 5 milimeters of dust and nicotin crap from the aluminium air vents (if you ever cleaned a dryer, the stuff you take out of the fluff filter has about the same thickness) and I also exchanged the thermal grease. The drive kinda worked, but had always problems getting the disks in and out, but I never really dared opening it up, after basically ruining a PS3 drive once. Now that it's cleaned it works like a charm and is one of the quietest PS4s out there.
I have a 1st gen ps4 that I bought secondhand off of a coworker years ago, and it’s chugged along but it’s always had a very touchy disc drive - last night it kept spitting out my disc and then it just stopped taking it altogether. This tutorial just saved my system during a time when I can’t afford a new one. You’re a godsend, thank you so much 💜
The tool you want is a #8 Torx security screwdriver. You need to get the one with the hole in it, not the normal one (albeit if you do have it, you can make them work, it is just difficult. The little pin in the centre isn't that strong.)
Thanks for the great tutorial! I could tell within the last year or two it was only a matter of time before the disc drive stopped working as loading and unloading was getting very sluggish. It finally stopped working tonight. After watching your video, I was back in business within an hour. Thank you so much once again!!!

Cheers just fixed mine a d this is exactly what was wrong with mine. Easy fix. I also cleaned out the inside and it doesn't sound like a jet engine anymore. I was close to buying a new one but gave this a try and it's running better than ever
You’re a lifesaver, I watched another video to take mine apart and it didn’t mention the gear to lower the drive for the block and roller. So I couldn’t load disks afterwards, I was going crazy and didn’t know what I missed. My original PS4 works and reads disks like it’s brand new again. I just cleaned the drive up a little bit and used alcohol on the laser, the rollers and the black cloth that accepts the disc.
Thanks for the video. It saved my PS4 even though I bought a new slim model. There was a penny stuffed in the drive that eventually threw the rollers out of alignment. I think the white piece along the side of the drive needs to be explained more but it took a couple trys to finally figure out how it needed to be set. Two thumbs up dude!
There's no way I'm going to risk doing it myself. Amazing video though & I might ask a professional technician to follow your instructions by showing this video to him

Thans so much dude, going on over 6 yrs strong with my original limited edition white ps4. 1st time ever having any sort of issue like this, and sure enough its was the disk drive. Now shes back running smooth and quiet as ever!

I haven't gotten a chance to use my ps4 in 2 years!! [life changes/I'm good now] I do have another PS4 that's black and brand new unused unopened and was bought before this white Destiny 1 Edition that's my main console . I'm a collector of things when I get the opportunity 😁

Myself and my 2 boys get home from Fan Expo in Toronto with 7 PS4 games in hand to add to the never ending collection of awesomeness. Get home and the PS4 has the Check System fault or bug, so fix that after hrs. Then the PS4 will not accept any disc, though I can hear it trying. Tried the basic fixes mentioned to no avail and then came to find your channel. Excellent job running through it all and though I have upgraded the HD twice now due to the amount of games, I was hesitant to go this far. I did though to avoid having to buy a new one ( Sony said send it them right away for a awful price and time) . My problem was not the white middle part connecting the 2 rollers, but the one roller was somehow stuck without popping up, perhaps due to dust? Anyway blew it out and made sure it was functioning okay. It works and thanks for taking the time to help fellow gamers.

Just used this video to fix my PS4, wasn't pulling the disk in, mine wasn't do to the white rod, but I wiggled things around and it works. 👍 Thank you for putting this up.

Many thanks for this video- I was able to fix my console, but the problem was not what I expected. I got all the way to opening up the disc drive and taking it apart and lo and behold, there was a dime inside my three year old son had jammed in there! 🤦🏻♂️ Thanks again- now I can keep some money in the bank for the PS5.
FIX NON READING DISCS THE EASY WAY.
The fan is circulating dust from the inside of your PS4 and telling the system that the disc is dirty. I almost took my ish apart but my PS4 has been just fine ever since I cleaned it 3 days ago. Get a very small flat head driver and just clean the vents on the sides of the PS4 top and bottom, making sure to blow through vents from front to back and dig that crap out. My 2 discs load every time now no problem and its so much quieter now too.

Very helpful vid. I also have an original PS4 and I'm fairly certain that the warranty is no longer a valid consideration as it only lasts a year from date of purchase and you MUST have a receipt. Otherwise Sony will charge you $150. At that point, better to either buy a new one, or get brave with a T8 security bit.

Me and my son were able to fix the ps4 since I bought him Littlebigplanet 3 since 4 years ago his brother broke the game so I decided to buy him the game again since the game was his childhood but after we bought it, My younger son put 2 discs inside 😂😂😂😂😂 but thank you so much.

Great video but you have to have a lot of guts to take the small screws out on a carpet like that ... good luck finding one if you drop it.

Worked great bought a second hand PS4 and had to pretty much disassemble the whole damn thing to clean it out. Had far too many issues but it's running like new now
I've ordered all the screwdrivers and needle nose pliers. Decided to give it a go instead of paying a shop, they asked for $80, F that!
That's pretty cheap, PlayStation was asking over $100
Good video, just some advice though; don't take apart or builds things with computer chip/board components, on carpet. Its very easy to catch static and brick those components. A clear, clean counter or table top, on a static resistant pad is the best bet. Even for retro systems.

Thanks very much for the video. I thought my roller was off when i heard a rattling but did not know how to open it up. Once watching this i got in there i soon realised one of my little monster had stuck a coin in there and it had loged in the back of the mechanism for the safety lip. Anyway i got it fixed so thank you for the tutorial very helpful.

7:47 you can make most screwdrivers magnetic by touching the tip with a magnet

Ahmota are you unable to push a disc in at all? if not, Check out the part of this video where I pushed that white plastic piece back. It will open that barrier that prevents a disc from going in. Hope that helps!

Ahmota that's what happened with mine also. I fixed the rollers and put it back together, but then I couldn't put a disc in. Then I reopened it and pushed that white plastic piece back. Now it works perfectly.

Hey u seem smart, my ps4 takes like 5 or so mins to start and when it does it opens like usual, but when i put a disk in it sounds like it reads it, but it doesnt read it, and game never starts.

I have a different problem which is that i can easily enter and pull out the disk but the driver wont work

My ps4 will take a disc but once its inside it sounds like it's not spinning the CD.. I can hear the laser moving and clicking back n forth trying to read a non spinning disc... Then I get the unrecognized disc pop up on screen. Someone tried to tell me the laser is bad but I don't see how a laser problem would stop the disc from spinning... Considering I hear the laser moving I doubt that's the issue.
Put it on its side and as soon as you put disc in tab it 2 or 3 times and it should start spinning and reading disc
Cory Faulkner had something inside of it, I took it apart and removed a piece of paper that was inside
Didn't do anything apart from disassemble and assemble it back (and also poke some mechanism/joints), but it actually solve the issue!! (disc won't roll inside). Thank you

Well mine just needed a little tlc. They needed cleaning with 99.9% alcohol but this did help me understand how to put the rollers back together. I had the 1200 model so I had to look up another video on how to take it apart, which involved taking apart the power supply. But thank you so much! Cool stickers, I've got fallout 4 stickers on mine.

Ammar Alraisi there may be a roller not set properly. It wouldn't hurt to break it down and check it out. Also, your rollers may have lost their adhesiveness. You might want to try rubbing alcohol with a Q-tip.
Deadly Domination Gaming yup i did crack it open and cleaned the fan as well as the rollers .. i didnt find any rubbing alcohol so i went to the pharmacy and got some alcohol pads .. squeezing them on the Q-dip .. and then cleaned the shit out of the rollers, Then BAAM!! Everything went back to normal ..

I'm currently trying to fix my mine's as well. Everything inside the optical reader is fine, the rollers/sliders look okay, but whenever i try to put the discs in, the ps4 won't recognize them and won't pull them in, it doesn't even make any noises either. I used to use the side screw to get them in, but after using it a lot, its not even working anymore.
I'm assuming it has something to do with the white lever next to one of the sliders, but i'm not sure. Any suggestions man?
Fred Edmilson, thank you for the kind words! Much appreciated! First and foremost, it could very well be the white lever causing the issue. Sometimes I have to (carefully) pull it to the opposite direction because it causes the PS4 to assume there's already a disc in the system. This is a safety feature to prevent you from inserting multiple discs at the same time. Also, have you tried cleaning your rollers with a bit of alcohol? The rollers are meant to be adhesive or a bit "sticky" to grip the disc and pull it in. Over time, they may lose their adhesiveness and a little alcohol cleanse could restore their adhesiveness. I hope this helps!

Ribbons. It's the ribbons that are the thing's that give electricity from the circuit board to the laser that spins the disk

Guys I need help the disk drive normally has something around it like a strap but it was pushed inside my ps4 how do i fix this
Ummmm. Yeah I just shook my ps4 like you said and then inserted a disc because I wanted to see if it was only one that was the problem, and now it works for all discs ... So lol. If your games are not reading and they’re popping in and out rather than just getting stuck uhh... just try giving it a good shake. It’s totally fine now and I’m very confused. Thanks dude!!

The disc drive ribbons wont snap in place. It ends right at the black line and goes in no further. I'm not quite sure why that is.
Mehmed Tiro, I had the same issue when I first opened mine. I would recommend wiggling it while applying a little more pressure. Just be careful, because they're obviously very delicate. I hope it works out for you!

@Mehmed Tiro, I would recommend placing it in as far as it will go until it stops, then try and see if your disc drive works. Again, just make sure you're careful so you don't cause any damage.
Anyone who has tried this and still doesn’t work, use the manual screw to eject and insert disc into the drive. There is a chip burnt inside that marries the motherboard to the disc drive, manual screw is the ONLY way without replacing the whole system more or less.
