I love light weight XC bikes. If I had to reduce my bike collection (from 11) to one, it would be an XC race bike.
Love Jimmy's disclaimer for the sponsored videos
I built myself a flat bar gravel bike this year because had to much tension in my back with a drop bar. I am loving the new position, the control and the looks. Very happy with my decision. Gravel was much better with a flat bar in my opinion.
I've always enjoyed your content... but lately they've gotten even better!
I have a Scott Scale RC, roughly 20-21lb. I love it. Where I'm from there are trails and paved roads, so a gravel bike doesn't make sense here. The Scale obviously isn't as fast as a road/gravel bike on paved roads, but it can hold it's own and is a blast on the dirt.
No. Gravel bikes are just hardtail Mountain bikes with less suitable handlebars.
I’m really liking the versatility of this setup. I recently picked up a Marin DSX FS and it’s increasingly brilliant as the miles stack up, on and off road.
When I do gravel events here in Belgium, they're almost always in the Ardennes, and the best gravel bike is a HT MTB as it typically gets far more saucy for your 40c or even 50c tires. My bike is an Ibis T29 with some custom Duke/DT Swiss wheels XO1 and Rockshox SID Ultimate, but 120 because I still ride singletrack. I do have a lockout instead of a dropper. The party trick for the T29 is that it can be single speed or geared, but also the rear triangle fully unbolts from the front triangle and fits into a Ritchey Break-away/S&S travel case. Works great if you do a tour somewhere else that you use the fast rail like Eurorail to get where you want to go.
Absolute nice looking bike! Do you going with the MTB for a fitting session as well? I'm so interested what James can tell us about MTB & Bike Fitting
Francis just want to say thank you for getting me into road cycling, since coming across your videos a few years ago I’ve loved this sport ever since so thank you for that. Keep up the good work love the videos
My hardtail IS my gravel bike, and yes, it has a dropper. With 2.3 tires, it is definitely at a disadvantage on tarmac, but I'll take that trade off to enjoy the singletracks more.
thank you for the video Francis great to see Jimmy working hard
I've literally just today finished converting a flat bar hybrid to a drop bar gravel and it's weighing in at 12.6kgs! Im going to swap the ally fork out for a carbon one, which will bring the weight down a little but she's still a hefty girl! Looking forward to getting out on her.
I love light weight xc hardtails. But soon people might be calling them flat bar gravel bikes.
Excellent and informative as always, hope you’re doing okay with everything Francis!
Love it. I’m pretty sure there is a man who races XC and Gravel that uses one bike for both and just swaps cockpit, fork and other bits. Used wireless so it’s mostly straightforward.
Looking forward to the next video in this series, I wrestled with this debate recently and went for a Specialized Epic HT to give clear water bewteen my Tarmac, fingers crossed I made the right decision 😃
Nice looking bike!! And there is no a single bit o doubt that this beauty will crush any gravel bike
Scott gang! welcome to the club! The Scale* is such a good XC race bike.
Finally a proper bike, love hard tails. Nice bike 😊👍🏻👍🏻
