Classic 52" Panama Fan Co Gear-Driven Ceiling Fan (Custom)

  • This one I've been hunting down for years. Any fan collector wants a rare fan that isn't made or sold anywhere and is hard to find. However, I was only able to receive the motor by itself. I won the motor on Ebay out of five other people. The rest of parts were not included unfortunately. I was still psyched but had to find/make custom parts to fit the fan and its style. The wobble was the most significant problem the fan had despite the rattling from the gears. I was able to adjust the wobble but couldn't do much about the gears. The fan isn't quite a useful piece but it makes a great decorative and collector's item and I'm lucky to even own the motor on its own.

    It's amazing to think that it uses a tiny c-frame shaded pole motor, and it's got enough torque to spin that fast!

    DANM THATS FAST. If only Panama Fan Co. Would make it quieter.

    It’s the fastest one I’ve ever seen. Also having it on speed 1 is exactly the same as on/off switch on so there is no way it will destroy the motor more than just on/off switch.

    I wonder how many TH-cam videos of this fan there are now? I kinda lost track on how many of them (lol).
    Pretty cool and interesting looking fan too, I also like the Disco ball that's hung on the ceiling in the background, and the top side of that fan at 2:03 looks pretty cool too. :)

      There's now about 9 total videos on TH-cam of this specific fan. One video is the person taking the motor housing apart to take a look inside and seeing how it operates. And the top of that fan at 2:03 you pointed out is the KDK Gallahad that's in my first video! (:

    Had you tried it on speed 1? It would be a bit slower. Capacitor based wall control can speed up shaded pole motor, some had tried capacitor based wall control on shaded pole Original set to low (it has separate windings for high and low, so basically separate motor), and it made it go faster. But speed 1 is exactly like on/off switch on.

    • @nickhizfanz6569
      @nickhizfanz6569  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I never tried speed 1 but that makes sense

    • @CeilingFanVideosOnYT
      @CeilingFanVideosOnYT หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@nickhizfanz6569 Yeah and a large capacitor can burn out a shaded pole motor. Shaded pole motor is like a transformer, and on direct power they have a low power factor like 0.5, so it’s basically like 60 volts on a 120 volt power. So it may explain how a capacitor somehow increases the voltage.

  • @isaac24
    @isaac24 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    It doesn't sound right. I don't know if I would put it on a 4 speed control though. I do think the different blades/brackets are taking a toll on the motor, because it sounds like it's scratching (like when it starts up). Also, that down rod doesn't look safe LOL! (It looks like a piece of string holding the fan.)

    • @nickhizfanz6569
      @nickhizfanz6569  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are absolutely right. I wouldn't put it on a four-speed control if it was just a simple on/off switch wired up. Yes the non-original blades and the brackets were putting stress on the motor (causing the scratching sound) considering their weight. But I had no other option since all I got was the motor by itself and basically had to order custom parts that I had to modify just to fit the fan. The downrod is a steel rod I just cut down to the correct length so that part had to be made. I see what you're saying haha it wasn't up there for long.

    • @isaac24
      @isaac24 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I’d be afraid to run it for long periods of time:) and parts for these are really scarce so it would be extremely hard to find blades let alone brackets or mounting hardware for.

    • @nickhizfanz6569
      @nickhizfanz6569  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah the fan spinning with the gears running, that noise by itself isn't bad. I'll be doing a Pt.2 of this video soon with the blades more balanced which should reduce the wobble and the noise. It's taking time since all the parts had to be custom.

    What type of ceiling fan is this this fan is gonna fall down if it's spins like this

    • @nickhizfanz6569
      @nickhizfanz6569  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the Panama Gear Driven ceiling fan that was only sold through the Family Handyman Magazine in the late 70's to early 80's. The blade brackets are warped which causes the fan to be unbalanced, which will result in the fan wobbling dramatically. There are many more fans in existence that can spin much faster than this actually.
