Crest 4500

  • This is my old 52" Crest 4500. It was bought in 1988 at Hechinger. The original contractors installed a variable speed dimmer switch for it, so after 20 years of use, the motor buzzes a lot on all speeds. It had cane blades, but we reversed them. It's installed on a 13' cathedral ceiling and covers the living room, dining room, kitchen, and entryway.
In this video, I'm just cycling the speeds so you can hear the buzzing. It's worse in the medium speeds, but it does make some noise on high and low as well.
As of June 2008, it was replaced with a Casablanca Panama. A video will come later. Enjoy!

There is a difference between electrical noise and friction noise. Oil only stops friction noise. The buzzing you hear is an electrical noise, it’s caused by windings dealing with chopping current from the solid state speed control, and it’s not from friction at all.
