- Lots of jank in this one, but it's still enjoyable in a weird way.

Bruce Campbell was born to play Rad Gravity in a film adaptation. Somebody type up a screen treatment and get it to him asap.
Thanks for the idea!!!
No more superhero/remake/video game movies, please.
Maybe like 25 years ago, Bruce Campbell is getting pretty old nowadays
Wow you’re right!!
While I love Bruce, he's also 66 years old. We don't need another Indiana Jones situation.
The Simpson music reference is bang on 😂
Yea really
Haha, yeah it is.
The Purdue Boilermaker resemblance is so uncanny, I bet if you asked him about his former life as Rad Gravity, he'd either break down into tears or storm out saying "this interview is over!"
third option is “I was young and needed the money…”
*xtreme college football nerd voice* Actually, the mascot's name is Purdue Pete!
(as a Boilermaker, I had to correct the record)
That is the most accurate description of that music I can imagine. You win a thing.
This was the topic of why I came to comment.
Nice to know Clyde is still around. I have the same cat I had when this channel started. I've been watching almost that long. At any rate, the cat is an old boy now but he's still kicking. Sometimes literally. Hopefully both of them will stick around for a while
Anytime we get a Clyde T Dog appearance, it's an automatic A+ review

So?
Those are rookie numbers
One of the first NES games I owned as a kid in the early 90s, I spent the Summer of 1991 trying to master its surprisingly intricate gameplay. This was before I'd ever even heard of the SNES, so the graphics and gameplay seemed top notch to this nine year old. The story, including the comic book in the manual, was written by industry veteran Steve Englehart who wrote Marvel and DC's biggest books in the 70s and 80s and it shows. Even in 8 bit, the world of Rad Gravity feels remarkably fleshed out and real. Wish they'd release this one on the Switch already!
When you beat the game (which wasn't easy), there was actual digitized speech. Very impressive for the time. It was Rad saying "Farewell, till we meet again!". We never did meet Mr Gravity again, though.
The main theme composer is 100% the guy from Maniac Mansion. It's the same sound font with a little extra insanity. His name is George Sanger. EDIT: Also David Warhol who wrote a tool to take MIDI music and translate it to play on the NES and also composed/arranged music.
Glad I'm not the only one who caught that.
David Warhol, too.
@@ScreamingScarabGreat catch. He almost got away with it.
Snesdrunk's 90s voice is just the bus driver from the Simpsons
I thought it was more like Corey Feldman's Frog brother from Lost Boys even though that movie is from 87

Otto Man.
Pretty sure those two guys that steal the Eye Guy are Cheech and Chong
The music to this game is borderline-Crazy Bus: especially with the title theme.

Adventures of Rad gravity sounds totally tubular
Groovy!
Radical, dude.
Probably hanging with Radical Rex.
Duuuuude!
Pizza time!
The Simpson theme part really made me laugh! 😂
That was brilliant 😂 it's actually spot on too. When the 3rd poor impression of a bit of Simpsons kicked in I would actually be surprised if it wasn't deliberate 😂 the title sounds like a game from the Simpsons too
The MST3K shout out made my day.
Finally you started using "NES Drunk" when talking about NES games!
This was among my favorite nes games as a kid. Loved the mysterious space exploration "open world" vibe there.
Good review! It's Zapp Brannigan's long lost brother! I remember renting this game when I was little. I played for 5 minutes, gave up and just went back to playing Super Mario Bros 3 instead! 😅
Honestly one of my favourite games of all-time. I love that each planet has it's own gimmick, and most of the boss battles are puzzles figuring out how to defeat them instead of just hitting them a bunch.
It is a shame there isn't more music variety, but I think the music that is in the game is pretty good! The title theme... maybe not so much but it is nostalgic for me if bad lol.
Would love to see this pop up on the Switch NES app, but hey it did get re-released for the Evercade a few years back. It's why i bought it. 😅
Great review SNESdrunk!
"john reese davies heads" floating around.. 😂
Oh wow, didn't think ANYONE remembered this game! I rented it from my library when I was 7 and we just kept it. I played all summer and loved it
Just kept it xD
3:09 Clyde is not smug, he is content.
my dad was of the era of Buck Rogers style space stuff and so he saw this weird retro-styled space buttchin guy on a video game shelf and bought this game for my birthday. I played the hell out of it because I didn't have anything else, and did enjoy some of the aspects of it and the weird stuff it did, but ultimately couldn't make it past like...world 3? the volcano world? whatever, got stuck in a hole and gave up eventually and without the internet or anything back then, couldn't get any further. then sold my NES and games and that was the end of that. really neat concepts for an obviously way too ambitious for the time title, though. Also, thought the title theme was WILDLY ambitious, again, trying too much with too little. a shame Tim Follins didn't have a crack at it.
@@AStandsForFrench Yeah 😀 Very relatable. It took me weeks to realize these worlds weren't meant to be played in sequential order. Volcania was the third planet you were able to reach, but it was actually the next to last you could finish because you lacked a ton of health, armor and equipment to get out of that hole.
Rad Gravity looks like the early career of Captain Sternn. Also, the music gave real Maniac Mansion vibes and, wouldn't you know, the composer, Dave Warhol, worked on both games. He's apparently considered something of a sound chip savant, and has credits going back to the Intellivision.
This game has a ton of flaws, but I unironically love it. It's so ambitious and unique I just can't hate it (even if the controls will have you screaming from time to time).
The Sound of this game remember me on the Soundtrack from maniac mansion for nes
Yes! You're right it's the same composer
4:03. K I laughed out loud, actually.
This game really could have used the 16-bit treatment ala Super Metroid upgrade from Metroid. There's something really cool about being an adventurer traveling through space, visiting planets, doing quests, upgrading your inventory and health. And it could probably do with some updates to mechanics, maybe have some space battle levels or boss battles of Super Metroid scale. Just thinking about it makes me miss that era.
Albeit as a kid, I always assumed the "Rad Gravity" meant rad as in radiation, so I kept wondering when the nuclear fallout would play a part.
The dude in glasses at 0:45 looks like mark borchardt lmao
right!!
Damn, that brings back memories, I played it like 30 years ago, great game for the NES but it was not an easy game; I did complete it then and I still remember how hard it was to this day.
I'm surprised you didn't say that the guys in grey trench coats swinging the chains looked like "Repoman" from WWF lol
I'm glad that you played it so I don't ever have too. SNES, NES Drunk, doing a good service on TH-cam, my good man
I just binge watched the arcade games that didn't get SNES ports just in time for a new video!
This game and its title screen have been haunting me for years. Now that I've seen this review I can probably safely say I'm not missing much past the title screen! Thanks for the review!
George Sanger I believe...his nes instrumentation is instantly recognizable. The mentioned Swords and Serpents and also Maniac Mansion comes to mind.
Loved that one of the planets was called “Effluvia”!
Caught that too. Gross. Lol
OMG you are *not* kidding about that theme song! That's a great description!
I love videos like this. Obscure games that are mildly decent with a little charm. Makes me want to try it out
3:14 - Does anyone remember the name of that NES game where you are a robot or in power armor (something like that) and the main gimmick is the ability to invert gravity and also set it back to normal?
Metal Storm
@@SetsuneW That was the game I was thinking of; thank you.
Funny I even saw one fan Megaman level that was made in Metal Storm style
This is a childhood favorite game that I just couldn't figure out. Much more fun as an adult with a walkthrough!!
God I love it when the new Snessy D video has a Clyde cutaway
Aw shit, this is one of my earliest video game memory about seeing pictures of this in a magazine at the super market when I was between 2 to 4 years old.
1:30 - Ahh... A fellow MSTie! I knew you were a man of cultured tastes. 🎩🧐
Game Grumps introduced me to this absolute gem.
I really admire the developers' ambitions, it's a shame they couldn't quite pull off what they were going for, but you can tell they tried. It's kind of a bit like the western equivalent of Clash at Demonhead.
Dude, your references and comedic style are impressive. This is an AMAZING video.
Oh man! I had this game. I thought the music was so good when I was about 5yrs old and played this so hard. Thanks for the rush down memory lane bro! ❤
You're getting pretty obscure with this one. Maybe this means I might finally get that Dash Galaxy in the Alien Asylum review from you. Thanks for including Clyde in in this great review!
With a head like that, my commiserations go out to Rad’s mother…
0:11 loved that CGR reference xD
Looks cool. I appreciate you still doing these videos for 50 years or so, 😉
I remember seeing the box for this game at the local video store and never once renting it. Looks like young me made the right call.
Clearly the best thing about this game is it gave us this video 24 years later.
I was so immersed into this as a kid
Played this many times back in the day. It has some really obscure hidden areas which I think most people wouldn't have found by themselves.
Yeah, it’s an odd action adventure that’s pretty unique in a good way. Hard as deep fried nails but a bit underrated.
Growing up in PAL-land I think the music sounds better in 50hz. It sort of gets a slower groove to it 😉
The BGM over the very end of the video reminds me of Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar.
I remember this game, my grandma had it at her farm when I was a kid
I read the title as rad granny and was very confused for longer than id like to admit after i clicked on the video
Thanks for the lil' Clyde T Dog cameo as itself ✌🏼 10/10 totally tubular!
Your description of the sprites is epic!
There’s a mech game that uses a similar gravity type gameplay- can’t remember the name. I remember it being quite polished and fun so that game’s developers may have played this and said to each other “let’s rip this off but polish it up”
Thank you very much for covering this title and giving it a fair chance. Credit where credit is due, but not forgiving the jank; a class act all the way, sir. Cheers!!
OMG I totally feel you with the simpson's song!! 😂
Game theme music is truly a work of a madman.
I came for the dog and was not disappointed.
The screens on those computers he logs into look just like those of the Commodore 64's default screen.
I've played a good number of the NES library including lots of real stinkers but I haven't played this one. But the sound, THE SOUND! I can' unhear this now. 😞
I thought the little ice cream truck guys looked like Cheech & Chong from Nice Dreams.
Metagalactic Llamas Battle At The Edge Of Time
is a real game title.
The graphics look like they came straight out of an early 90s Apogee shareware game.
Hope you have a great rest of your day too, mr. Snes Drunk.
A childhood favorite. Love this game.
This is one of the games that was ALL OVER Nintendo power that just had to sneak in with one tip in every issue. Others include:
Fester's Quest
Willow
Shadowgate
Bart vs. the Space Mutants
(I think I wanted put one more here. Maybe it was Iron Sword)
I remember this coming out for the Nes, reminded me a tad of the bouncy tank game. Wish I'd gotten it.
I played the heck out of this one as a kid! ...by the looks of your footage though, I didnt get very far XD
Ol' Rad's head looks like a watermelon on a toothpick. Or as Dr. Hibbert might diagnose it: "Good lord! Gigantism!"
I had the French version of Swords & Serpents as a lad; I still like that game. Also, I enjoy that your radical 90s dude voice sounds a lot like Macho Man Randy Savage.
Here for the clyde.
I very vaguely remember not liking this game, and getting the name confused with Dash Galaxy and The Alien Asylum, also for nes, and released the same year.
Oof. That dunk on George "The Fatman" Sanger.
I said "rad" so much as a kid, lol... by the time it was 92, I was 8... and rad was a major part of the vocabulary. . . But, it didn't last real long if I recall correctly. By the time I was 10, it was already fading greatly from the zeitgeist... by 12 (1996) it was more or less over. We were rapidly approaching the 2000's at that point, and things were just shifting SO FAST. Computers, pop culture / television / music, gadgets, etc. God... I miss it so much. . . I know everyone ends up nostalgic for their own past, but I really do think this was a specific "golden era" of all eras. We got the best of the best of everything. We got 80s culture, 90s, and the 00s... all while in our prime, and able to fully embrace all of it. From no computers and zero internet, to watching them creep into schools, work, and homes, to seeing them take over entirely and be everywhere... to seeing SO many people ditch them entirely, and only have phones these days. I wanna go back so dang bad.
Somehow I just knew even through the weirdness of that music that it was somehow related to the legendary George “The Fat Man” Sanger and I’m surprised to be right, alongside David Warhol, who I don’t know so I’ll blame him for all the bad bits. Sanger also music for the other Interplay NES games, the NES port of Maniac Mansion, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, and truly legendary PC work including The 7th Guest. I’m guessing this isn’t one he thinks about much by comparison.
Perfect description lol. Really does sound like 'The Simpsons Theme' being played horrendously.
Love the MST3K reference!
This was one of my fav games on NES, hard as nails though!
Well, that last tune in the video really sounded like "Supernature" by Cerrone...
"thats never a good thing" reminded me of BigMacDavis. Great video BTW!
Always remember the old motto: Interplay or don't play at all. XD
Any video with Clyde is a good video!
I just actually noticed the new logo for NES drunk, lol.
0:15 do you mean to sound like the Corey Feldman Frog brother with that voice? Because that's who I think of every time lol
I'm gonna tell everyone that this game is based on an unaired Saturday morning cartoon pilot, starring Bruce Campbell.
I played a lot in this game as kid (and my mom also play it often back than). I only have game without manual and I don't was experience with english, but gameplay could be fun without it. It's ambition and weird game, but it have so much content and gimmicks. It's rare to see such game that can have decent controls.
Controls are tight, and jump can be very sensitive. Don't know how you need to know that you can fall slower at screen transition if you hold jump button.
Bosses are unique, give a little fun. Still don't know how you need to deal with giant robot goat. I just squish myself under platform and throw crystal to robo-lady. Sometimes crazy projectiles can hit you but often it can't reach you.
I still love boss fight with Agathos (second last boss). He plays fair and you can find safe spot to deal good damage. It's only annoying to wait when he expose himself. And I still hate last boss. This zero gravity controls make it's hard to guide boss's rocket. I don't finish this game because of this boss back then(only on emulator).
This game also have tons of various and sometime obscure secrets. I think I got like 85% of them without help of internet (I missed few healthbars and upgraded crystal grenade). Don't even know how my mom found white armor(which is best armor) in last level. Maybe she just stumbles on it or use some password. I later discover it by myself when tried to check some walls. If you know that this armor exist, it's not hard to find it. I think one teleport room can hint you at it.
Which is not easy to find is healthbar on planet with flying islands, turtles and annoying birds. I just fall into river because of one of this birds and was surprised. This room have some letters or abbreviation (and I still don't know what this is reffered to). If you need hint of this specific spot that you need to fall - it's right under brown planet in sky.
One healthbar that was hiden in Lava planet I only saw in one YT video and author just use some bug to enter to it, so I don't know legit way to reach it.
One funny thing is teleporter weapon that you will get in later part of game. This thing not only OP, but can break game in some ways. If you sit right to wall and throw it, it sometimes clip into wall, and you can teleport to wall. Keep doing that - now you can travel through walls! But only horizontally. If you reach level boarder - who knows where game decide to throw you? It will not break, but you will end up in some room in this planet surly.
In last level you can skip some teleporters in room with bunch of teleporter doors. But you only clip diagonally down.
The backgrounds are primitive but the sprite work is really charming! Never played it as a kid but I would have found it extremely compelling. Especially with that huge sprite in the spaceship sections.
You know a game review is going to be good when the manual is interesting enough to warrant spending a chunk of time talking about it
Oh my god the simpsons theme part was spot on.
Rad Gravity looks like a real Castleton snob.
I owed this one. It could even be called an early Metroidvania.
