      After an experience with death I could no longer listen to human music for several years, even the most beautiful. Angelic music is so beyond anything ears on Earth have ever heard, that returning to this Earth music was jarring to my spirit. Yes, you are so right. Let's enjoy what humans can do with our voices here till we learn to sing as the Angels do in heaven. Oh beautiful is to weak a word....

      Pray for Poland. The new generations are not growing enthusiastically enough to love Jesus. I’m publishing a weekly TH-cam video on episodes from the life of Don Bosco, entitled ST JOHN BOSCO by JOE ZAMMIT. In this series I’m narrating events and miracles from the splendid life of Don Bosco. St John Bosco used to perform a miracle almost every day, through the intercession of Mary Help of Christians. From the lives of saints we can learn how to love God more and draw closer to him. Thank you.

      My husband's voice has a very deep bass (maybe baritone) quality and he is just as tall as the gentleman in the video! It gives me hope that one day he can join the choir because he loves to sing, but choir directors don't know what to do with his voice or have the appropriate music. My poor husband, so willing to participate, but kicked out of choir because of his deep, booming voice that confuses the other choirs members. 😢❤

    • @HickoryDickory86
      @HickoryDickory86 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's the curse of many choirs and their choir directors and choice of music: They're often focused on and centered around the female singers and give very little love to the males. And more often than not, they're focused on and centered around the sopranos, and the altos/mezzos just get the short end of the stick.
      When you have a good bass like Rafał or your husband, it's definitely a blessing and should be capitalized upon! I would suggest to the choir director that he or she look to more Eastern European (Serbian, Romanian, Georgian, Russian) hymns. They know how to write incredibly beautiful hymns that make wonderful use of altos/mezzos and basses.
      Granted, I don't know what your and your husband's religious background is, but my suggestion in much easier if you are Orthodox.

Obviously Jesus did not endorse anything Hitler did, or any Nazi, Soviet or Maoist ethnic destruction anywhere. It's time for some love and forgiveness among Christians of all stripes and persuasions. All southern Slavs are basically one people, fragmented by religious lines and different alphabets. So they should learn to find compassion for the living, regardless of the sins of the dead, just as most Americans do not reproach each other for unkindness once shown by one ethnic group to another 100, 200, 300 or even 400 years ago. At first, the lack of resonant "low end" in basses put me off a bit, but then the mix showed such clarity and beauty. This is without a doubt one of the finest - and I mean FINEST! - performances of Psalm 103 that I have heard - and I have helped record Grammy winning versions of this music. The basses are, in fact, perfectly balanced for this ensemble and what surprised me at first was shown to be just delightful. I know this recording is a few years old, but I hope this group is still at it - they really did a wonderful job, as did the recording engineers! Great work! The soloist, Irina, is seamless and she has exactly the right approach to this solo. There is only one other solo for this that I really like, and that was not even solo - it was two or three altos singing together in Robert Shaw's Festival Choir recording of the Vigil. Irina does on her own what every singer soloing this setting should do... to sing absolutely transparently, without affect. She nailed it!!
    Just to put my money where my mouth is, here is the link of the project I helped with, for the same piece. I like this Warsaw one better. (shhh....)

      @vladimirberezansky8953 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dear Sir -
      I don’t understand your reference to a ‘lack of resonant “low end” in the basses.’ The double-bass voice (oktavist) hit the final low-octave C cleanly and just as loud as needed, without excess. Rakhmaninov’s Vespers (‘All-Night Vigil’) are scored for a massive chorus on the order of Alexander Sveshnikov’s or Valery Polyansky’s.
      That this ensemble of eight (nine, including the contralto) choral soloists could so masterfully grapple with such a massive score is a tremendous professional achievement for each of these liturgical performers. Just out of idle interest - and not toward any concealed purpose, it would interesting to learn whether the individual performers are primarily Orthodox or Catholic Christians, and what the mix among them is.
      Final, blatantly obvious comment: This ensemble is a tremendous aggregation of superior choral musicians; the results of their combined efforts are greater than their respective investments of heart and intellect - in that order.

    • @SeraphimHanischMusic
      @SeraphimHanischMusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@vladimirberezansky8953 Thank you for your comment! I am not faulting the singers at all. I am thinking of the sound from a producer's perspective. It seems to be a bit "midrangey" in the mix, and that surprised me. If I had produced this, I would have been able to bring out the bass character more deeply. It is not even really a fault of the mixing engineer or producer, but perhaps simply a different opinion of what the soundscape ought to be for this. Many things affect the decision of the mix engineer, most important "what it actually sounded like" when it was sung. So, it is a distinction I make that is little more than an opinion. Producers and engineers often play with one another's work and learn how to make improvements all the time.
      I agree with you 1000% as to the quality and clarity of the singing itself. It is clean, prayerful and simple, which is really the (oft-forgotten) intent of all Church singing. It is not to be sung as a performance ("look at me!, says the choir"), but as a vehicle for all in the Church to pray to and with the texts being sung, in this case Psalm 104 (103 LXX) refrains and excerpts. This choir would be the one I would want singing this in the All-night Vigil, which is what this setting is for.
      I am a church musician myself, and I am also a recording engineer and producer, so my work tries to represent church singing as prayer (which is what it is), and not as "high art" - Church singing is actually higher than high art, but we often reverse these priorities when we get to this level of singing, performance and subsequent criticism. ))
      All the best to you. Thank you for your thoughts!
