    I've been a long time reservation holder, but just got a Polestar 2 instead. EX30 is amazing on paper, but the real world takes just aren't great. I care about the drive characteristics and it seems like a big step back from last gen Volvo EVs. The Performance mode losing one pedal drive is a real shame. The delay in power delivery under normal mode is even more disappointing. So you are basically carrying around an underwhelming front motor that activates sometimes? Soft suspension to combat the short wheelbase is also a let down. Even though it's faster on paper and there are no test drives in my country for EX30, I feel good about my Polestar 2 choice.

      I totally agree with you. I drove the ex30 this weekend and the power delay is really tangible. The overall quality is bad, the buttons on the stearing wheel is horrible. Its not a car that should represent Volvo. Polestar 2 sound like much better choice. Congrats!

    The thing with voice commands is that you need to know what voice commands you can make. Also in my Volvo I can adjust wiper sensitivity easily using the stalk and sometimes I will make multiple adjustments within a few seconds. I wouldn’t want to be using a voice command each time in that situation.

    Appreciate the honest review. Was considering the EX30 over the EC40, since the latter is getting a bit dated. Seems like you just made decision way easier

    At around 7:00, which drive mode do you have? (Which modes does it have at all?)
    I would assume, since it is RWD in base mode, the front drive unit disconnects unless needed -> minimum* latency of 100-200ms in cold weather for physical reengagement.. half a second delay wouldn't be surprising for a non-racing application

    Removing all the physical buttons is just penny pinching and a bad idea same as Tesla who wants to mess around in multiple menus to find stuff that you need while driving. Bring back the buttons.

    Thanks for this video Kris. You have highlighted some really important features that a lot of other reviews don’t show. I change the adaptive cruise distance a lot during driving. The configuration in loads of submenus makes this car a no-go for me now.

    One of my main problems with the car is the one pedal drive experience. It’s not well calibrated at all, especially noticeable in slow driving. When coming to a full stop the mechanical brakes are way too noticeable, not smooth. And the one pedal drive doesn’t work in reverse.
    It doesn’t do EV stuff well or software and it’s packing isn’t as good as the competition.
    Very disappointing.

    • @markbartoszek8585

      Volvo already said they will add OTA updates to the one-pedal driving. And speaking of competition, how's the one-pedal driving in the ID.4?

  • @EdwardBartel
    @EdwardBartel 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

    I'm getting concerned about all the negative feedback all the TH-cam reviews have about the menu systems. No one discusses that a simple "Hey Google" prompt will adjust almost anything in Volvos. Can't you simply say, "Hey Google, change the wiper sensitivity to Low" if you want to adjust this setting?

      just good voice commands are not good enough - so we should have a minimum array of buttons or stock and if not call it out. If you are on the phone or talking with somebody in the car and face a situation you need to react fast, its a security problem, I totally agree with it - and there is only one reason why they try it out - cost reduction. It's less secure.

    I had twin motor ultra for 2 hours today. Some points, its suspension needs work, on anything other than a smooth road it throws you around like a bucking bronco, not comfortable at all. Too many beeps, if you look sideways at the speedo or map it beeps at you, it’s desperately needs a HUD or driver screen, in a flash Volvo has destroyed decades worth of effort promoting safety. Our last 4 cars have had HUDs, I won’t buy another car without one.
    Driving it is like driving an old school 80’s turbo car, stomp the throttle and not much happens then bang off she goes when the front wheels hook up, it’s like turbo lag.
    I really wanted to like this car. If Volvo can fix the suspension and add a HUD I’d take another look.

    What are you talking about when you say gears? If I am not mistaken, this car (and most of not all EVs) have a single speed transmission. So no gears change at all.

    • @KrisRifa
      @KrisRifa  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I said it feels like it has to down shift under full acceleration. This is because of how the drivetrain is tuned. The front motor is disconnected in normal driving and has to engage with a physical clutch. This in combination with how it is tuned makes it feels like it has to down shift several gears.

    How long from 0 to V-Max on the ice? You surely must have had a straight long enough to try that with that power?
    I have no idea why Volvo are really taking the worst from Teala and implementing it to their own products. (While there are other car makers that take the best of Tesla instead... There is plenty to copy)

    Kris. I was very disappointed to test drive the AWD EX30 a day before I was due to pick up the car I had ordered. The OPD was crap, having to delve into the touchscreen to turn on lights, fog lights etc was not an option for me. The total lack of storage for the driver, the window switch button and I could not sit in the back seats, cranked at an angle with nowhere for my feet. So glad I dodged this bullet. Volvo should hang their head in shame for accepting this Chinesium clone

      It is of course personal choice, but having driven EV's for 12+ years, I would not have a car without a HSW. I also suffer with poor circulation, so gloves are not an option either. Anyway, paying so much for an EV, it should have what you want shouldnt it?

    This video can be summed up in two words, "Hey Google." Honestly, you need to understand the target demographic for this SDV (Software-Defined Vehicle). Some of your criticisms are fair. The car isn't 100% AWD, but complaining about going through a menu to adjust rain sensitivity is likely not a game changer for who this car is meant for.

  • @YorkshireDave
    @YorkshireDave 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The car on paper sounded great. Order in and waited 8mo for a test drive.
    Well....was NOT worth the wait. Awful car.
    Efficiency terrible (35kWh/100km) at 10oC 40mph avg speed, park assistant can't detect spaces and instead tried to reverse into a parked car, software terrible (the radio didn't even work!! It's 2024!), v top heavy drive, one pedal waaaay too soft so you have to brake anyway.
    Obvs cancelled the order immediately.
    Imo this car is so bad, especially at the price point, that I suspect Volvos reputation could be in tatters if it doesn't quietly try to shelve this disaster of a car
