Ah! A Kathy Millatt video! I know I will be as intrigued as always, but o this occasion you not only intrigued, you amazed! I am in awe of your creativity and talent...................
Tin foil! Who would of thought.. Always great to see other methods of modelling water aside from resin. As for the wake it's strange to see how a boat and its propeller causes some unexpected paterns to form. Super!
Hi from Michigan, where Chris-Craft Boats are manufactured - well back in the day, no ocean in Michigan but we have the Great Lakes. Like the demo, well done • Cheers from the Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
I've just got round to watching this, Kathy. It's brilliant! I remember Mike at Terranscapes talking about thinning clear polymer with white spirit for his ocean waves, too. It really works well. Great video.
The word "stunning" is overused but it truly applies to this piece. The boat wake is solidly authentic and the total lack of markings on the boat makes me think of smugglers trying to outrun the Coast Guard. Dioramas should tell stories and that's the story I got from it. Nice to see you try new techniques and find the bugs... so we don't have to!
Just incredible work! The diorama looks very realistic and the methods were something I had not heard of before. Thanks for mentioning those TH-cam channels. I will look them up.
Hi Kathy, As always I take my hat off , I bet it took quite awhile, Fantastic,( if you got any foil over I have a joint for the weekend ) All the Best Brian 🤗
Kathy, fancy going on a boating holiday with me, LOL. A beautiful diorama and I wish I was there, in the sun, with the ocean spray in the air. Marvellous stuff that dreams are (home) made off, LOL.
This is great! I've been kitbashing a hovercraft for a while and, to be honest, resin water scares me and is way beyond me. This is definitely something I will try instead, looks fantastic. So glad I found this channel
Hi Kathy, I am the 3D modeler of that boat. My jaw was open throughout your whole video. Amazing!! If you have a need for any future models for your projects, please reach out to me. Love your work. -Rene
Kathy this is absolutely amazing!😍 i am doing something similar on my bathroom led mirror, with some decorative Nahwales🥰 thanks to you your video has helped🥰
Wow Kathy I haven't seen this technique before and it turned out great. Does the foil get hard with the topping? I'd hate to have it on the edge of my layout and smash it. I'm a clutz, lol. Really cool seen, Chris
That water looks amazing. I really like the way that you have brought together a bunch of techniques from various sources; and your own spin on the snow effect is cool. Cue Jan Hammer's Miami Vice theme tune. :)
Hi Kathy, another stunning diorama, and it's set my imagination running wild, I'm thinking in terms of the boat being pursued by a Navy helicopter and an inflatable boat full of marines, but that's just me, anyway, stay safe, all the best from Scotland, Stephen.
Well, apart from the 3D printing, I think every single technique was new to me there! Though even the "overbaking" the 3D print was new to me: didn't know that's what happened if you left things to cure too long. Foil for waves - why have I never seen that before in 50 years of modelling? I've used Uhu glue for waterfalls and waves in the distant past, but the shelves of B&Q seem to have lots more things worth playing with now!
I was airbrushing so one after the other is fine. They’re thin coats so probably dry anyway. If you’re brush painting, the coats are thicker and you can drag the layer underneath if they’re not dry enough. A hairdryer can speed that up.
Oh! I'll need to track that one down. Will finish off (eventually) a model I'm just starting to perfection if I get it on a Martian Surface themed base (It's the Pegasus Hobbies 1/32 MLEV).
Hi Kathy, it's me again I was thinking about what I said in the previous comment about the helicopter, as I remembered the effect of the rotor wash from a low flying helicopter on water, I'm not sure if it would be a headache or a challenge, anyway sorry for filling up your comment section with your comment section with my waffle, stay safe, all the best from Scotland, Stephen.
Wow Kathy that turned out amazingly well, looks real! I live in Michigan, very close to lake Michigan where Chris Craft had it's boatworks, kinda neat. One question, what is the name of the product in the cartridge you applied for parts of the water, as I can see using the same application on a project I'm working on. Thanks!
I saw somebody online re-clearing a resin print that was dark with a hot gun, took about ten minutes of waving the hot gun over it. Never tried it not sure if it works its just for your info.
Can i use mod podge for puzzles for this diorama? And is paint able silicone a good substitute? Just trying to use the stuff I have. I need the brain power you folks have. Lol
You’ll have to experiment on paintable silicon as I’ve never heard of it I’m afraid. I do use mod Podge on this so it’s certainly usable if it dries glossy.
I’m working on a number of model railway dioramas and this was a diorama for the water section of a model rail book. Boats are a very common theme on them.
Holy Moly! This is so cool 😃 I learnt so much from this, it turned out so well. I'll definitely have to give this a try! Keep up the awesome job 😉
Thanks Luke. I was really impressed how well the ClearFix worked.
ONCE AGAIN, KATHY MILLATT MAKES THE EXCELLENT DIORAMA, WHICH IS FANTASTIC! HIGHLY AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really brilliant work! I also love the way you credit other u-tubers that I happen to also follow. It creates a really lovely sense of community!
This is great! Well done as always, Kathy. Thanks for another awesome video.

I work as a graphic designer, and your creative and artistic skills are a great inspiration in my work. Thank you!
I've just got round to watching this, Kathy. It's brilliant! I remember Mike at Terranscapes talking about thinning clear polymer with white spirit for his ocean waves, too. It really works well. Great video.
Thanks! I nicked the ClearFix off Luke and it really works although it’s a bit matt when dry although that’s easily fixed.
whipping the foil with white vinegar will etch the aluminum foil to help paint and glues to grab.
I didn’t know that. Thank you.
Seeing how you created the water was absolutely mind blowing. I realy love this diorama! Thank you for sharing with us these techniques!

Fantastic and ingenious technique. Congratulations.
Beautiful! Absolutely brilliant work here. I love the results.
Explained very well, perfect.
Glad it was helpful!
@KathyMillatt I'm a builder of 1/35 scale military models, I like to make dioramas as well. The way you modeled water was very useful, thanks.
Very cool. Might have to give this water method a try for a largish boat I have for a diorama
wow amazing work as always Kathy
Great build, video and presentation.
Glad you enjoyed it
Glad you enjoyed it
Absolutely brilliant Kathy, Thank you for sharing, looking forward to your next inspiring build, take care.
Looks authentic just like a photo of the real thing.
You never cease to impress!
Just awesome Kathy! Loved the Clearfix idea.
Amazing work Kathy
Fantastic work yet again! Thank you for sharing.
Great work! Congrats.
Brilliant Diorama Kathy , keep it up
Superb job Kathy, masterful

Waves turned out very nice, but I hope one day you return to this and finish the boat details.
Unlike Titanic it's unsinkable. Anyway, very well done! I'm impressed!
Another great tutorial, and I'm looking forward to the book now!

I also pilfered the water from scale-a-ton. Great job

What a fascinating process! Thanks!
Wow this amazing, nice work
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for the replygoing to try your method for a Vietnam river dio. Thanks agin
Such a neat approach for this one!
Great work. Very realistic. Thank you.
Amazing result!
that looks so Awesome i wuld love to give something like this a try nice job Kathy.
So cool. Definitely learned quite a lot from this. Great video as always Kathy! Keep up the amazing work!
Very creative and amazing result
Thank you so much 😊
WOW! Stunning!
Wow Kathy I haven't seen this technique before and it turned out great. Does the foil get hard with the topping? I'd hate to have it on the edge of my layout and smash it. I'm a clutz, lol. Really cool seen, Chris
Chris, it stays flexible because I didn’t scrunch the foil underneath very tightly. I think a firmer first layer would lead to a more solid result.
Thank you for answering my question Kathy, I intend on having a small Harbor area and nor sure of my skills. Learning still, Chris
@@CM-ARM I would just try a small area on a sheet of foam core or card first to see if it works for you.
I will. Thanks again Kathy, Chris
Heated floors?!
Well lah de dah!
I'm not jealous.
I dont care.....
The foil waves give an amazing realistic shape! Nice!
Very artistic great job 👍
I don’t airbrush hand paint only. Can I use acrilick paints for the river. Love it.
I use acrylics all the time so yes.
Brilliant

Hello in the colors you paint from Tamiya you can paint them one after the other or you have to wait for them to dry, thanks,

good vid keep up the good vids
Would love to see you tackle a Martian surface (hint hint). Looks amazing and you make it look so easy.
I did a cracked desert recently that was very Martian in feel... but no rover on it.
Oh! I'll need to track that one down. Will finish off (eventually) a model I'm just starting to perfection if I get it on a Martian Surface themed base (It's the Pegasus Hobbies 1/32 MLEV).
Have our ever worked with air dry clay as a river base if so. How. Need advice. Thanks. Jim 😊
I haven’t but I did use it extensively on my Port Dinorwic ground work.
Hi, this looks great. Where did you get thise metal weights?! I like the look of them!
They’re 123 machinist blocks. I’ve bought them over the years but got the last lot on Amazon.
Thanks, for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Wow. Now I want to the same

Amazing!! so so talented.
but...... who's driving the boat?!
I suspect it will be Lara Croft but my figure looked too big.
Thanks!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. The cartridge is ClearFix by EverBuild.
Sorry what is “ white esprit” mixed with woodland scenic snow
.??
The clearfix needs a solvent to thin it. White spirit seems to work best although now I might use odourless thinners to cut down on the smell.
Will it dry hard?
Yes it’s tough but I wouldn’t bash it around a lot.
doesnt the foil fold on itself ?
You scrunch the first layers fairly tight so it’s fine.
I saw somebody online re-clearing a resin print that was dark with a hot gun, took about ten minutes of waving the hot gun over it. Never tried it not sure if it works its just for your info.
Interesting. Definitely one to remember when I need that clear print back.
@@KathyMillatt Not seen it in person test it first before setting fire to a 23 hour print
nice video
Heh, yeah, I've forgotten prints in the cure box too... think everyone who does resin printing has at some point.
all you need now is a Bruce XD *starts jaws theme*
What's is that accent? I can't nail it. Very ASMR vibes.
Accent is middle Britain.
@@KathyMillatt ahh! Ok 👌 was kinda bugging me that I couldn't figure it out. Love and your videos and your voice! ☺️
Thanks!
Wow!
wow
Unlike Titanic it's unsinkable...anyway, very well done. I'm Imprressed!

Looks really good, but not sure you can call a speedboat with no one driving it "ultra realistic".
They've just stopped to shoot so the guy who was steering it has his pistol out and the wake is just residual movement.
Sorry wrong diorama. They’re inside not on the flying bridge.
A modern day Marie Celeste?
It's a pity you don't return to model rail roading, I already gave up hope on Luke's tutorials, please don't turn you back on us!
I’m working on a number of model railway dioramas and this was a diorama for the water section of a model rail book. Boats are a very common theme on them.
Turtle .
Brilliant
