  • My first lamina stirling engine model from scratch. It has worked at first attempt. Still too slow. Planing some changes soon to speed it up! Please post your comment.

    I've always questioned "Why do they keep making these engines from glass"? That is NOT practical. Why not make them from metal? Stop making toy engines, and make something we can actually use.

      Thanks for your message. I made this using parts I had available that time. Using glass allow us to see inside how things happen. But I agree, those experiments are useless, but still, we can have a lot o fun by making them.

    You have to make one more joint to the piston and the flywheel center point should be just above ...

      That was my first atempt. I got very confortable because it worked. I did not make any change to improve performance. I might do....

    Great! Same here! The distance of all components are very important to get the best efficiency. I used a 13 MM x 100 MM test tube divided as 40 MM for the steel wool, 25 MM for the open heat chamber and 35 MM for the cylinder. The piston 15 MM long and 4.3 g. The air port opening 3.4 MM dia.( very important) both made of hard graphite. Remember apply the heat at the very end of the steel wool. Luck.

Estou tentando melhorá-lo. O que realmente é interessante não é a velocidade e sim os princípios envolvidos.

    Olá amigo, Obrigado pela visita! O cilindro e o pistão são na verdade um mesmo componente usado em mecatrônica chamado air dashpot, que nada mais é que um mini amortecedor. Posso te arrumar um pois eles dão muito defeito nos equipamentos que eu trabalho e tem que ser substituidos. Desculpe pela demora da resposta.

    el pistón que hay que usar debe ser de acero, de metal o de algún material en especifico? podría ser de plástico?

      El piston puede ser de qualquer material. Hay que tener buena vedacion pero pouco atrito.

      Hello, thanks for visiting. It has been a long time since I buit it. As far as I can remember, the steel wool is supposely to work as a capacitor. But, honestly, I don´t recall many details about it.

      +Nazareth Gallardo , El tubo es de vidrio Pyrex y el pistón es de grafito. Puede que no haya holgura entre el cilindro y piston. El cilindro y el piston son un pequeno amortigador de vibraciones.
