Love both Wing Cars... those wings are fantastic! The Charger looks very muscley and tough, and I like the grille! The Roadrunner looks fast n smooth. I like both colors... the orange says happy and the green says go!!!! Got the best of both with these two!! I love both cars, would be happy to have them side by side! Really great vid, thank you!

Tom is an absolute Boss. Hands-down one of the best collections I’ve ever seen. Super Birds, Daytonas, Hemi Cuba’s. this guy should have a museum or at least let me come out and check it out😂😂😂😂. Amazing collection. Anybody would die to have it.
It reminds me of back in the day I had two buddies start to get in a heated argument on what started as a friendly debate. That is- who's hotter: Pat Benatar or Joan Jett? Before it got any worse I chimed in with "Hey! You might have a preference, but is either one really a bad choice?" ...that being said, I'll take Pat Benatar and the Daytona.
I was 5 years old when my neighbor brought home a 1969 Daytona!! His had the 383 in it with the six pack though!! I remember always lusting over his car has a kid, and he would even let me sit in it and look it all over!! Then in 1976 he sold it, by my story doesn't end there! See in the late 1980s HIS SON, who is about 12 years older than me, found his dad's car and bought it back, and had it restored to the same condition it was new!! To this day I see it at car shows all the time and the son, (who still remembers me as the little kid from next door) lets me sit in it, and look it all over!! And we share stories about the same car we both knew as kids!!!

With the 4:10 and auto in the Daytona it would be quicker off the line but the Superbird would probably catch it pretty quick. I bet the Superbird has more top end if both cars are stock.
@@2010deanML Actually no. The Daytona was the faster out of the 2 by almost 10mph on the top end. That is due to the fake scoop on the Superbird 1/4 panel and the nose shape. This is according to Mopar published accounts.

Late response here, but when comparing the rear of these cars, the wings are different. The Daytona's wing base is closer to the rear end of the car and is more vertical that the Superbird's wing, which has it's base farther from the end, and is more slanted.

As a lightweight and goofy JV baseball guy, the Superbird and it's decals has my vote (I think you would agree to that lol). But are either one of these gonna have me in my stocking feet fast? Both are sweet cars, I saw a B5 Blue Superbird with a 440 4 Barrel and 4 Speed pistol grip at a show today. The car was absolutely flawless and they only made 271 in that color and powertrain combo. I've never seen a Daytona before, they're a lot more rare than the Superbird is. The 68-70 Charger is one of my favorite muscle cars of all time though with the 68 being my absolute favorite. My dad used a have a 70 Charger and 70 Challenger. The Charger was in an accident before I was born but the Challenger was around til I was about 6. I own a 2015 Challenger Scat Pack and love it, one day a classic Charger will be sitting next to it in my garage along with a 70 Chevelle SS.
Great video Lou! Really enjoyed this one!! I liked at the end when you asked Tom which one is his favorite and he said, I'm not going to tell. Watch his eyes go to the one he liked as he said that! lol It's my favorite too.
Dunno why I remember this,but I remember when I was just a kid,one of my Dads friends had a blue Superbird that he brought by to show off to my Dad and a couple of his buddies as they sat around drinking beers.I can remember being crazy about the fin and the decals and thought it was the coolest!My dad and his buddies were looking it over and told him how nice it was,but as soon as he drove off,they all were laughing and talking about how ugly it was!Another early lesson learned through hot rods,your buddies will sometimes just tell you what you want to hear :-)

The Superbird has several upgrades, obtained by lessons learned on the race track. Overall it's a better car. But man, that Daytona Charger looks so much cooler.

Cooling problems aside, Charger Daytona for me. I had a Hot Rod Magazine feature from '80 or so of one in blue taped to my apartment's front door. I'd see this every morning before driving my '69 383 Magnum to work.

I knew a guy in 1974 to '78, he had a 1968 charger with the rear spoiler on the back. Apparently the 1st. owner wanted a "winged bird" He bought a spoiler and had it installed on his charger. The guy I knew (D. H.) bought it later. In all those years I never seen another non-winged charger have on installed, unless a tribute one.
You missed one of the most noticeable differences of the two. The wing of the Superbird is more swept back and looks much nicer in my opinion. The angles are different!
Thanks for this comparison, guys. Great fun. Both beautiful machines. I prefer the body lines of the Daytona, but do prefer some of the other touches on the Superbird. I think the front nose cone is better on the Plymouth. I noticed the wing angle seems different, too. Cheers
They are both amazing cars. No way to be really partial. I think the Charger is a more classic, but How could a person really pick. The sound is amazing. A Hemi is beyond the engines of today. Its really impressive to hear that thing. , bn

No need for a comparison like he said the 69 charger is the most iconic look at those tail lights that wide stripe. There’s a woman in a small Connecticut town that still has her all original 70 super bird in like new condition with a four-speed. They’re still out there.

To drive either one is context as to what is faster. I would love the Superbird for putting a long straight stretch of hammer down. The 69 appears maybe a little more agile.
Actually, Richard Petty didn’t do that good in this car. he even admitted he didn’t like it that much after he drove in it. Pete Hamilton, who drove for Petty Enterprises , won the 1970 Daytona 500 with the SuperBird!!!! Pete versus David Pearson, one of the best races to watch the rookie versus the veteran. Richard Petty blew his engine early in the race and had to retire. it’s an awesome moment seeing him coach the pit crew while Pete was still out there 🎉🎉But yeah anyway, these cars are awesome. Both killer and both colors are really desirable especially the vitamin c orange,ive always really liked the back end (lights) of the 1968-round lights & 69's,but still love the 1970 superbirds,it really is a pity chrysler australia didnt follow chrysler u.s,.with cubic inch motor/gearbox options and design a lot more closer those iconic years..
We used to go drinking in NY state when we were 16 because the drinking age there was 18 vs Pa. bieng 21. I lived in Erie Pa. and we would go to Westfield Ny which was about 20-25 miles away. Westfield was and still is a sleeply little farming community with maybe 1500 people or so. Funny thing was they had a Dodge dealership and it had 3-4 Superbirds there for sale. Those cars sat there unsold for a couple of years and then one day they were gone. They were not a popular car by any stretch of the imagination. Of course in hindsite I wishI would have had the money to but even one but as a goofy 16 year old in 1970 I didnt know too much

When Plymouth lured Richard Petty back they change the look for the Superbird to make it look aesthetically more pleasing was actually three or four miles an hour slower then to Daytona that's why the front cap is different the wings in a different place Etc the rest is just the difference in the base car

Both are sweet cars, I saw a B5 Blue Superbird with a 440 4 Barrel and 4 Speed pistol grip at a show today. The car was absolutely flawless and they only made 271 in that color and powertrain combo. I've never seen a Daytona before, they're a lot more rare than the Superbird is. The 68-70 Charger is one of my favorite muscle cars of all time though with the 68 being my absolute favorite. My dad used a have a 70 Charger and 70 Challenger. The Charger was in an accident before I was born but the Challenger was around til I was about 6. I own a 2015 Challenger Scat Pack and love it, one day a classic Charger will be sitting next to it in my garage along with a 70 Chevelle SS.

The wing on the Superbird is closer to the rear roofline than the Charger

It was the hemi dodge charger Daytona.. his favorite.. I like the Plymouth super bird / roadrunner very unique muscle car ..

Dunno why I remember this,but I remember when I was just a kid,one of my Dads friends had a blue Superbird that he brought by to show off to my Dad and a couple of his buddies as they sat around drinking beers.I can remember being crazy about the fin and the decals and thought it was the coolest!My dad and his buddies were looking it over and told him how nice it was,but as soon as he drove off,they all were laughing and talking about how ugly it was!Another early lesson learned through hot rods,your buddies will sometimes just tell you what you want to hear :-)

Lou,,, Thanx for a great vid,,,,,what a treat,,, I worked in an American Spares shop called Little Wolf Auto's here in England,,,,,been in a normal Roadrunner when I went to Canada in 79,,also a Challenger,,,,and here went in an Australian Charger,,,,and sat in a replica of Petty's non winged Charger which was signed by him,,,,I only ever owned 1 dream car a 1970 GTO,,,,but relive my car stuff watching your channel,,,,big thumbs up,

The Superbird has several upgrades, obtained by lessons learned on the race track. Overall it's a better car.
But man, that Daytona Charger looks so much cooler.

Cooling problems aside, Charger Daytona for me. I had a Hot Rod Magazine feature from '80 or so of one in blue taped to my apartment's front door. I'd see this every morning before driving my '69 383 Magnum to work.

The nose and the wing on the Superbird are more curvy then the Daytona. Both cars are so sexy.

I knew a guy in 1974 to '78, he had a 1968 charger with the rear spoiler on the back. Apparently the 1st. owner wanted a "winged bird" He bought a spoiler and had it installed on his charger. The guy I knew (D. H.) bought it later. In all those years I never seen another non-winged charger have on installed, unless a tribute one.

You missed one of the most noticeable differences of the two. The wing of the Superbird is more swept back and looks much nicer in my opinion. The angles are different!

Thanks for this comparison, guys. Great fun. Both beautiful machines. I prefer the body lines of the Daytona, but do prefer some of the other touches on the Superbird. I think the front nose cone is better on the Plymouth. I noticed the wing angle seems different, too. Cheers

They are both amazing cars. No way to be really partial. I think the Charger is a more classic, but How could a person really pick. The sound is amazing. A Hemi is beyond the engines of today. Its really impressive to hear that thing.

i think charger better in aerodynamics, look at the rear windshield angle, it seems have little turbulent than superbird

No need for a comparison like he said the 69 charger is the most iconic look at those tail lights that wide stripe. There’s a woman in a small Connecticut town that still has her all original 70 super bird in like new condition with a four-speed. They’re still out there.

To drive either one is context as to what is faster. I would love the Superbird for putting a long straight stretch of hammer down. The 69 appears maybe a little more agile.

Actually, Richard Petty didn’t do that good in this car. he even admitted he didn’t like it that much after he drove in it. Pete Hamilton, who drove for Petty Enterprises , won the 1970 Daytona 500 with the SuperBird!!!! Pete versus David Pearson, one of the best races to watch the rookie versus the veteran. Richard Petty blew his engine early in the race and had to retire. it’s an awesome moment seeing him coach the pit crew while Pete was still out there 🎉🎉But yeah anyway, these cars are awesome. Great collection.

In my opinion, the Playmouth Superbird is faster and the car body is wider, while the Dodge charger is slower and the body is shorter.

Both killer and both colors are really desirable especially the vitamin c orange,ive always really liked the back end (lights) of the 1968-round lights & 69's,but still love the 1970 superbirds,it really is a pity chrysler australia didnt follow chrysler u.s,.with cubic inch motor/gearbox options and design a lot more closer those iconic years..

We used to go drinking in NY state when we were 16 because the drinking age there was 18 vs Pa. bieng 21. I lived in Erie Pa. and we would go to Westfield Ny which was about 20-25 miles away. Westfield was and still is a sleeply little farming community with maybe 1500 people or so. Funny thing was they had a Dodge dealership and it had 3-4 Superbirds there for sale. Those cars sat there unsold for a couple of years and then one day they were gone. They were not a popular car by any stretch of the imagination. Of course in hindsite I wishI would have had the money to but even one but as a goofy 16 year old in 1970 I didnt know too much

When Plymouth lured Richard Petty back they change the look for the Superbird to make it look aesthetically more pleasing was actually three or four miles an hour slower then to Daytona that's why the front cap is different the wings in a different place Etc the rest is just the difference in the base car

The Daytona was faster on the Nascar tracks. Plus they are worth more. Being they only made 503 Dayton's VS 1920 Superbird's

Back in the Day When Nascar Raced Them on a Short Time Basis,Before Being Banned,BOBBY ISAAC Had His Get Airborne & Lift Off The Track ,Retired Shortly After. Rumor Was It SCARED Him To Think They Could Be Uncontrollable & Get Airborne From Going Over 200 mph.
