What Ricky says is exactly what I've always thought... the reason Curb is so enjoyable, but also somewhat concerning, is that everyone hates Larry for what he says, yet we all know he is right (at least most of the time).
I always lived Gervais, but I never got into Curb till I watched this show, from then on I was hooked. I think LD is a hysterical bloke, the situations he gets himself into in the show are incredible - Kamikaze Bingo, stealing his golf club from a coffin, offending the Black family, causing a Doctor to shave Jeff's head, its all so bizarre, but it's inspired genius.
haha i love this. so glad someone posted it. i gotta give curb your enthusiasm another shot. i watched an episode a while back and i didn't really love it. but i think i just need to watch from the beginning. love extras and the office though.
curb your enthousiasm is also airing in belgium recently, so i've been watching it the last months and it's my favourite show on tv at the moment! it's just hilarious..
Kids in the Hall, Wayne and Shuster, Rick Mercer Report, Corner Gas, SCTV. Speaking of which, Lorne Michaels (the creator of SNL) is Canadian and quite a few of the cast members in the early days were as well.
Ricky Gervais is one of the biggest television producers/stars in England; his personal projects and endeavors get many fold more views than the crap they have on TV in the states right now
I don't know why but I'm always late on the wagon with some TV shows, it's like I know they're there but I don't bother and a couple of seasons later I get hooked. I've only just got into CYE and it's hilarious and I never got into Family Guy until Season 4 but now I own every DVD release, with the exeption of the new star wars episode lol.
I love how he explains the relationship between him and Karl in this in a nutshell. "if it wasn't for this guy I'd be doing alright" raw comedy just having a conversation with an idiot. beautiful comedic minds and I enjoyed watching. thanks
what a great conversation, both of them push the boundaries and both wanted complete control of their shows rather than compromising for the sake of more money. but as it turned out, they have more freedom now because of their success.
he and Merchant won't ever top The Office, but I love all four of the show we're discussing absolutely love them. David and Gervais are two of the best writers around.
The Office & Curb are both awesome, I've only been getting into Seinfield recently, it's ok, not my thing really. Comedy is in the eye of the beholder, I have a mate who doesn't think The Office is that good, and I genuinely see that as a flaw in his personality!! We no longer speak!! haha. My wife just started watching The Office and fucking loves it, never has a comedy produced so many lines, significant and utterly insignificant that mean so much.... LOVE Gervais... awesome
Im From the UK and my favorite sitcom is Curb, I also love the Office UK and US and Extras was great too : ) Larry David Stephen Merchant Karl Pilkington Ricky Gervais Id happily watch anything starring these guys
It balances out when you compare British films. I have Dish network and 56 movie channels and have a hard time finding one decent one a day to watch. I grew up watching PBS, Masterpiece Theater, Brit mystery shows, and great series such as Pride and Prejudice, which I much preferred over the film version.
@KoRL12 That European station is the BBC, one of the most widely viewed in the world. Politics, Animals etc., all very funny. Gervais has become an excellent stand-up, too, although probably not up there with David, few are. He says himself that he doesn't see himself as up on David's level, that he is more of an adoring fan than anything else
I say this owning EVERY episode of every season of CYE and NOTHING from Gervais, Ricky Gervais not only proves he's hilarious in this segment, but really rather brilliant, the distinction that he posed to LD regarding art is the space where you take risks, make no or fewer compromises, and no one (arguable) is hurt, is really great, kudos to RG, well done.
Everyone is hoping Ricky can come up with another show that has the resonance of the office. Curb can be slow, and extras is great but also slower, less organic a little.
Love both of these guys, but I can't help feeling disappointed by how reserved Larry is about complementing Ricky. It would have been nice to see some admiration reciprocated. Larry comes across self-centred in this respect, which is a shame. Love his willingness to be brutally honest and his grumpiness, but it would be nice to see him actually be a nice, warm guy in real life.
@2dreamy He's referring to the 15 people who clicked "dislike". Obviously they aren't fans of Larry David or Ricky Gervais... so they must watch (that one other show).
I've always said that Larry sees a situation in life and would love to take it to the limit but ppl just don't cross certain lines. Larry takes the real life situation across that line in the show and lets the man he'd really love to be out of the closet. In real life, Larry 'IS' his character, but stymied. I adore him. And Ricky.
@hampusheh The most moving moment is his cajolery with his former vice-bos in the final Christmas special. To expect a comedy to come up trumps against The Office is expecting too much is it not? I find that I can enjoy almost any sitcom/stand-up ever. it makes my life very wholesome and rewarding. :)
youtube: louis ck on opie and anthony #1, probably near a hundred hours of louis ck giving his philosophies, and humor, in the series of videos. its radio though, if you're a louis fan you'll love it.
The end of meal table scene is brilliant. larrys right. You thank the wife, even though she doesnt work, because your not a sociopath, but the voice in your head is saying "How did you financially contribute?" Logic and reason go out the window when you must be civil and PC.
I'm an Aussie and understand why you think that and I like your analysis on it. But for me I see it as the Americans just think "WOW, what a great concept, wish we'd come up with that" Remember imitation is the highest form of flattery, British humor rocks!!
hmm but just because you might not think he is doesn't mean others dont. I think he will go down as a comedy legend because of the office and extras, even if I feel like his material since then hasn't been great. I find him absolutely comedy gold when hes positioned with karl pilkington (and steve merchant). His podcasts/radio shows were absolutely hilarious.
@KoRL12 You claimed "someone who has made one of the best and most viewed programs in history is talking to a guy that did 2 short lived shows for an european tv station". What? One question - Why do you think there is no world outside of the US? What about the rest of us? That's a very terribly narrow way of looking at things. Suppose some other TV show is a hit in, say, Denmark. How would you feel if they claimed that it's one of the best shows in history and didn't know of Larry?
What Ricky says is exactly what I've always thought... the reason Curb is so enjoyable, but also somewhat concerning, is that everyone hates Larry for what he says, yet we all know he is right (at least most of the time).
True...he reads our minds...and he has the courage to say it
It's a thin most. But he's a moron (the character) for complaining all of the time.
"I took a risk". Brilliant!
I love that commet Archigearour....Einstein meets Newton. Great!!
"I know a lot about shelving" brilliant
I love how they talk philosophy in this interview. They are both truly two brilliantly hilarious men.
The two funniest men in the entire world on the same sofa! AWESOME!
couple of geniuses. both of them are real artists
I always lived Gervais, but I never got into Curb till I watched this show, from then on I was hooked. I think LD is a hysterical bloke, the situations he gets himself into in the show are incredible - Kamikaze Bingo, stealing his golf club from a coffin, offending the Black family, causing a Doctor to shave Jeff's head, its all so bizarre, but it's inspired genius.
these two are awesome together
haha i love this. so glad someone posted it. i gotta give curb your enthusiasm another shot. i watched an episode a while back and i didn't really love it. but i think i just need to watch from the beginning. love extras and the office though.
Two of the most talented entertainers anywhere
"I took a risk" - Larry David
lol Brilliant
I can't wait for CYE season 8! Ricky and Larry finally together!
“You can call it our money…” 🤣🤣🤣
Two very intelligent people would love to have a conversation with these two
Larry is the same as in curb. What a comedic genius he is. Truly one of a kind.
Just brilliant. My two favorite comedians, both the writers and stars of two of the best comedies in history. Just marvelous!
The Office,Extras,Seinfeld,Curb,Only Fools and Horses, and All In the Family.
It doesn't get any better than those 6 shows.
curb your enthousiasm is also airing in belgium recently, so i've been watching it the last months and it's my favourite show on tv at the moment!
it's just hilarious..
Just started watching Curb. I'm so fucking impressed by it.
perfect!!!!!! the two funniest people in the world
Larry David and Ricky Gervais are LEGENDS!
What a great discussion. I love this video, thanks for uploading this!
I'm glad these two get along. Maybe there is hope left in this world.
this is a great discussion
2 geniuses
Kids in the Hall, Wayne and Shuster, Rick Mercer Report, Corner Gas, SCTV. Speaking of which, Lorne Michaels (the creator of SNL) is Canadian and quite a few of the cast members in the early days were as well.
One of Ricky's favorite shows was Laurel and Hardy , that explains his relationship with Stephan Merchant .
Thumbs up for no comprimise in Art !
Two heros! Ha! Love it...
6:23 is exactly how I feel about Curb, I thought I was the only one.
SHlTTER oh fuck off
i wish that will happen one day, louie is amazing.
Great interview. Big fan of both these guys
i took the risk, that is comedy gold. it always cracks me up.
Ricky Gervais is one of the biggest television producers/stars in England; his personal projects and endeavors get many fold more views than the crap they have on TV in the states right now

hahaha im so going to watch this series
Back when you needed 4 controllers on the table lol
I love how he explains the relationship between him and Karl in this in a nutshell. "if it wasn't for this guy I'd be doing alright" raw comedy just having a conversation with an idiot. beautiful comedic minds and I enjoyed watching. thanks
what a great conversation, both of them push the boundaries and both wanted complete control of their shows rather than compromising for the sake of more money.
but as it turned out, they have more freedom now because of their success.
After Ricky Herbs is put Hollywood in it's place? With my favorite Larry David? ...it's priceless
Google messed with my words. It will be great when a better service is getting to share... Bye Google!
The two most important men in comedy
9:05 Ricky Gervais get's inspired for The Invention of Lying.
a person who is aware of their own sociopathic nature cannot be a sociopath
I agree, lets cuddle to celebrate
This is gold for me, especially last three minutes.
Nothing better than saying whatever you want to say make it into a series and get paid for it....
for some reason i just pictured a Curb your Enthusiasm as a comic book and damn i would buy it :/.
Brilliant. This is probably like Einstein meets Newton in the comedy world.
Larry david is a pure genius. CYE is the greatest comedy of all time.
These guys are fucking geniuses.
he and Merchant won't ever top The Office, but I love all four of the show we're discussing absolutely love them. David and Gervais are two of the best writers around.
Larry David and Ricky Gervais = Comedy Juggernauts
The Office & Curb are both awesome, I've only been getting into Seinfield recently, it's ok, not my thing really. "why, why do i have to thank you?"
canada blew us both out of the water trailer park boys is the greatest show ever
@Albeleo yes, ricky is filming curb as we speak
It's two actually funny guys talking to each other and a camera happens to be present in the room.
Well, looks like I'm going to have to start watching Curb Your Enthusiasm.
I also love Bilko and Abbott & Costello ;)
Im From the UK and my favorite sitcom is Curb, I also love the Office UK and US and Extras was great too : )
Larry David
Stephen Merchant
Karl Pilkington
Ricky Gervais
Id happily watch anything starring these guys

@FireForFreezing my favorite comedy show since The Office
3.26 karl pilkingtons dad
1:36 Could have been talking about him and karl!
hahaha I was doing a David Brent!! Guess it didn't really come off!
I wonder if these two will ever collaborate.
Gervais has realy changed over the years. I suppose that's what happens with overwhelming success.
@bubezz yep as a londoner I can hear him say 'your' but it's pretty subtle. curb y' enthusiasm
you have to see Talking Funny, it's just Louis C.K., Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock and Ricky Gervais talking.
Everyone is hoping Ricky can come up with another show that has the resonance of the office. Curb can be slow, and extras is great but also slower, less organic a little.
An Idiot Abroad > Office > Extras > Derek > Life's Too Short
@jagamasat lol i know. it's great. a great comic such a fan of a great comic.
Love both of these guys, but I can't help feeling disappointed by how reserved Larry is about complementing Ricky. It would have been nice to see some admiration reciprocated. Why has this not been televised in the US!!
don't get that*#@!
I've always said that Larry sees a situation in life

@fbizzy81 do you mean Curb your enthusiasm? I'm confused :)
youtube: louis ck on opie and anthony #1, probably near a hundred hours of louis ck giving his philosophies, and humor, in the series of videos. its radio though, if you're a louis fan you'll love it.

IMO Curb has passed Seinfeld as the best comedy of all times.
"Mr california closets over here" hehe
@pangodwangojones they need a buffer zone lol
Larry's character in his show is basically David Brent almost.
"Art"?My god Gervais you have become everything you preached against.
Explain
He does have good reason too think that....
I have that couch, and it is an awesome couch.
kids in the hall, kenny vs. spenny
hmm but just because you might not think he is doesn't mean others dont. I think he will go down as a comedy legend because of the office and extras, even if I feel like his material since then hasn't been great. Larry David AND Ricky Gervais!? How can it go wrong? :P
@iloveneytiri
Can I assume from that retort you actually like Life's Too Short?
8:21- that's how you say Art in English :P
8:05 no not me
@KoRL12 You claimed "someone who has made one of the best and most viewed programs in history is talking to a guy that did 2 short lived shows for an european tv station". What? @hampusheh I'd go with that. But Curb is a healhty character study in it's own right.
