  • Watch as I go out for my first ride on the sand dunes during Dunefest 2022 and get stuck on a major hill. It takes two of us to get her back out. This is one amazing rip of a ride you don't want to miss!

    Nice vid! ..love seeing the old school odyssey. I had an 85 oddy before upgrading to my pilot. I run Skat traks on my pilot, you should try them. You won't dig as much and the ride will be much better. 👍

      Thanks! Yeah, they are a blast in the dunes. I'll look into the Skat Tracks for sure.

    I tried to reply but my previous long post seems to have been blocked.
    Good luck have fun.

      That is odd, TH-cam is set to hold comments for review if the algorithm detects something needing to be reviewed but it shouldn't be blocking anything from being submitted.

      @@OddballORV THX for the reply.
      I don't really want to type the whole thing out again.
      I do want to point out a very important point ------- AVGAS ----- you have been warned. The oddy is an air cooled engine and the intake charge is elevated in temperature because of that. This causes pump gas to detonate. Liquid cooling the head will do very little to address this issue. Your picture of the piston is clear evidence of detonation. Oddy pistons ALWAYS melt in the exhaust side if the engine is stock.

    Is there something about having high levels of toe-in that is advantageous on the sand? Seems like it would cause excessive rolling resistance...

    • @OddballORV
      @OddballORV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry for the slow reply. The answer is probably not. Though I am curious where you are noticing excessive toe in? Are you sure the camera angle isn't playing tricks? As far as the steering is concerned, the geometry is all wrong from the factory. The inside wheel should turn more than the outside wheel but the opposite happens. This is one of the reasons an Odyssey is so difficult to turn at slow speeds. The wheels are fighting each other. There is talk to come up with a kit to correct this but it might be a while before something becomes available.

      @@OddballORV I was just going by the angle at which the front tires are throwing sand.
      I've never worked on an Odyssey. Are the tie-rods in front or behind the steering knuckle? If they're behind the knuckle it would just take a little welding. If the tie-rods are in front, though, clearance is a bit more difficult to manage.

    • @OddballORV
      @OddballORV  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Pinhead650 The front suspension is a dual J trailing arm suspension. The brake caliper is on the rear side of the wheel. The gold arms you see are on the front and go towards the front bumper. The title clip from this video (and in the video itself you should see it clearer) how all of this works together.

    How fast and how much you pay?

    • @OddballORV
      @OddballORV  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry, I don't quite understand your question. An Odyssey will do between 50 and 60+ on flat ground. These machines are nearly 40 years old now so how much they cost depends on many different factors.
