Someone made a very good point online: if this was a standalone, non-Halloween film, it would have been received much better. Trying something different should be when you're starting a new story, not when you have momentum going with the last film being left on a cliffhanger.

I wanna know why they changed the script, they originally stated it was gonna continue the same night and the last film very clearly ended with the intention of continuing the night into the next film (Laurie telling micheal shes comijg for him and then walking out of the hospital holding the knife) then the pandemic and delays it caused happened and during that time they decided to change the script to time jump 4 years

This right here. Give us a standalone Corey movie in between. Let him become his own psychopath with the memory of Michael lingering in town. No Laurie because she has gone into hiding from Michael. Corey finds the mask at the end of his flick....right after he meets Laurie's granddaughter. Then, we get a three way showdown when Michael comes back for Laurie in the finale.

JUST LIKE THEY DID THE Original 3rd Halloween movie. Should have been a stand alone movie. Or it would have been a nice spinoff of the franchise starting a chain of psychopaths killing under the same guise idk. But terrible send off for michael

If Corey's storyline was introduced in the first remake and we see him progress into a killer by the 3rd film it could have worked better, but to introduce a new story in a movie advertised as the big showdown between Laurie and Michael. It cut any momentum they were building up too for the finale.

I have made that argument since the movie came out. Corey is a character that should have been introduced in Halloween 2018 and eventually transition into a new "Shape" just like Michael Myers.
Introducing this kind of character in the last movie of a trilogy is pointless.

The reason why Michael is referred to as "The Shape" is because that's what John Carpenter called him in the 1978 movie. They wanted it to be a big mystery as to who it could've been under the mask. "The shape" can be anyone, but there's only 1 Michael Myers.

I agree with you Mello. this story could've worked if it was a standalone scary film. But I was disappointed that Michael Meyers was just a background character until the 3rd act. It definitely was not the movie they showed in the previews. The kills were scary and gruesome but the story didn't work for me.

The main issue I take with a lot of the people saying Michael Myers was disrespected here drive me nuts because that bridge was crossed way further back in the 90s.

    • @ChaosZero1031

It doesn't help that the series really expanded on "The Shape" lore in the sequels, but then this trilogy comes along and basically says "disregard ALL sequels cause these are the REAL sequels".
And then this third one leans heavily into the more supernatural part of "The Shape" with them expecting people to have binged those sequel movies that they basically told them to ignore since they would no longer have any impact on the series since they were retconned and non-canon.

    • @TheCryptofHorrors-DerCryptaxis
      @TheCryptofHorrors-DerCryptaxis ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Brandon Cobb To be fair Myers has been called The Shape since the credits of 1978 but I see the point you're making. They put it into Ends with some exposition near the end but I suppose it may be unclear. At the same time this one does assume you're familiar with the concept of the evil within Myers that manifests with him being the shape and then asks if that's unique or transferable. It was just mind-breaking to me how we could have something like "I love Halloween and Michael Myers! Wait The Shape? What's that???" Yknow? I do agree with you to an extent though.

@@johnwalkeristhatdude3018 Alright, i know i'm a year late, but i'm just gonna explain why so many fans had a problem with Fans: This movie ignored all unfinished plot lines from the previous 2 films, many just found Corey to be uninteresting, the advertising showed Michael and Laurie fighting, but what fans got was Michael being sidelined. Halloween fans are heavily Nostalgic, and after Halloween Kills, they expected to see more of The Shape, but what they got instead was Corey becoming the new Shape.
Personally, i was just disappointed, didn't hate it, but didn't really like it either. It felt like it had some good ideas, like the Mask passing on to someone else, but it just didn't work for me, because Corey was a new character. I think that if Corey was introduced earlier in the trilogy and we saw him progress more and more into being like Michael Myers, it could've worked. The idea of Myers corrupting the town and passing the torch could have worked with more forethought.

@@johnwalkeristhatdude3018 Halloween Ends just didn't really fit in, the filmmakers tried something new and took a risk, some hated it, some liked it. This is just how people will react to something that's new in an old IP that's stayed for the most part consistent for over 40 years.
I think that if the writing was just a bit better and if the trilogy had better direction....this could have worked. Like i said the franchise has stayed consistent in it's slasher roots, the filmmakers of the film have gone on record in saying that the plot has mainly to avoid repetition', but It’s kinda the whole appeal of a slasher franchise. Simple plot, entertaining kills and a good villain and that’s all you need. It’s not like there’s been a huge amount of slashers anyway compared to the 80s so people are completely down for just some simple classic slasher stuff, especially from Halloween.

@@johnwalkeristhatdude3018 Another thing i didn't like about it personally was how inconsistent the writing was, Laurie plans her entire life in the unlikely event that Michael MIGHT escape incarceration and come after her. Then he actually DOES, kills almost everyone she loves, then disappears and is still ON THE LOOSE, whereabouts unknown, but she just moves on and forgets about it because of the 4 year jump....
Another problem was Allyson, i thought her character was a great addition for the first two movies, and then she became incredibly unlikeable and essentially just a moody love interest in Ends.
But the few things i will commend were the soundtrack, cinematography, and the kills were pretty damn good too.
All and all, it had good ideas, but just executed them in a way, that just left fans mixed and put-off by it all.

I waited to watch this on Halloween day, at the end of a marathon of this current timeline of Halloween movies. I lost count how many times I questioned wtf movie was I watching.
How did we go from Laurie brandishing a knife ready to go kill Michael to her in a blonde wig baking pies? You're really gonna tell me Laurie went on the hunt, Michael disappears, and in that time she turns into a normal granny with no trauma in life whatsoever?
Why is Allison so unnaturally horny for Corey, especially when they just met? The trope of the pretty girl falling for the psycho killer barely worked for Anakin and Padme, it should've stopped there. Corey literally says he killed someone and Allison just ignores it, wtf?
Why is Michael treated like some lost killer puppy just looking for a new friend, dragging people into the sewers? Michael is not supposed to build connections with people much less sympathize with others that have trauma. He is purely and simply evil. Corey should've died in that sewer immediately.
Now my biggest problem, wtf is with the supernatural stuff going on? Killing like physically recharges Michael? Wasn't this Michael supposed to be described as not supernatural, just capable of incredible things? What is the story of Corey building up Michaels strength with murders, in what way is that supposed to work in this timeline? This plotline just came out of nowhere, it felt like the writers had no idea what to do so they pulled some shit out of their ass and somehow convinced the producers to sign it.
When it played Don't Fear the Reaper at the end I literally shouted "Fuck off"! Imho, this is the worst Halloween movie ever. Say what you want about Halloween 5, 6, Resurrection, or the Rob Zombie movies. At least those can be fun to watch as schlocky slasher movies. This movie was not fun to watch at all, the cringe is unreal.

Hey, I agree with most of your statements and takes from the film. Particularly the ones about Laurie. However there are some explanations for the flaws you described. Foremost I think in terms of Allison’s story, she’s a lost and severely damaged person. She feels like she no longer has anyone to share her trauma with now that Laurie is seemingly all good. She especially latches onto Corey because she attracted to him and his trauma as well as the fact that he’s someone her age with whom she can relate to. Last thing I’ll comment on, I actually found Corey to be the best part of the movie. I think Michael fleeing after the last movie was dumb, but with the story they chose it makes sense that he is on decline as he’s getting older and as people seemingly in the last movie we’re not as afraid of him. The way I take it, is that Michael is a vessel for the Shape, a pure evil spirit that takes the form of man. Despite the spirits powers being able to keep Michael alive his physical body is old and in disrepair, especially after the last movie. So the Shape begins to look for the next suitable vessel. This vessel being Corey. And then I think in that last part with Corey and Michael. they didn’t destroy Corey’s body. And one of the last things Michael does is grab Corey’s head and stares into his eyes again while Corey struggles before snapping his neck. Guess that can be seen as Michael maybe transferring over the rest of his evil into him and then fake killing Corey so that the evil shape within could live on. And Corey struggles during that not fully understanding and because the last bits of his humanity still in there are getting killed and replaced by the rest of the shape

In rewatching it i dont mind it as much because it shows that the story wasnt about Michael, it was about good vs evil and Laurie was the good and worked to defeat the evil, in Michael as well as in Corey. Michael tried to pass the evil on through Corey and Laurie tried to do the same through Allison and they both thought they failed but in the end good prevailed because Allison came back and they ended it. You can't be too upset about not having full out Michael vs Laurie because they are both in their 60s and have suffered immense physical trauma.
I also think its meant to ve watched all three back to back so its less jarring a change

I don’t get the people who have a problem this movie while they like Halloween 4 where we were introduced to Jamie Lloyd in that movie and they had Michael passing his shape powers to his niece by looking in her eyes and by touch when she’s holding his hand. Halloween four was about his niece Jamie but they love that movie that has the same plot as Halloween Ends they loved seeing Jamie as the new SHAPE cuz the shape represents evil not Michael.

The sad thing is, I actually think the idea of someone else taking on Michael Myers' persona could work really well. The problem is, the Corey character is not the right character to fit that mold.
Michael has always been about the evil transcending the man. At the end of the day, Michael the man is just a vessel for something darker, more sinister, something that defies individuality. And there are PLENTY of psychopaths and killers out there with the same bottomless black soul that Michael has.
If Corey had been more like that-a cold, mysterious, intimidating loner that nobody understood, who always had an inexplicable penchant for hurting people and animals for no reason other than simple desire to do so-then this story could have worked as a fitting conclusion to this series. Corey could have found Michael, the aged, decrepit, worn-out vessel for the inhuman evil, and Corey could have killed Michael and BECOME him. Because deep down, they WOULD be kindred spirits, both joined by the same transcendent evil soul that always finds a way to take human form throughout time. It wouldn't be some snot-nosed little wannabe kid wanting to play the killer, it would just be another vessel for the evil to inhabit, a younger, stronger vessel with the same mask and the same blackness in his eyes. That would be a perfect ending, because even with Laurie killing Corey at the end, she would know that the evil would always find someone else, and that there would always be more Michaels in the world.
But unfortunately, the director/writers didn't really understand what they wanted to do with these last two movies. True evil doesn't come from being bullied, or being misunderstood. The kind of evil that Michael embodies, is a kind of evil that you just have to be born with. But they didn't understand that, so they tried to make Corey have a progression into becoming a villain, when he should have just been evil from birth. Because as much as we want to believe otherwise, there really are people like that who are just BORN bad, and we may never fully comprehend why.
Which is such a shame, because Halloween 2018 was actually a great sequel to the original. It's such a shame it had to falter like this for what I can only assume is a hyperfixation on weak, specious commentary over actual storytelling.

If ur going to talk about true crime like u get it please know what ur talking about a lot of serial killers especially serial rapists accidentally kill someone and they can devolve. Jeffery Dahmer’s first two murder victims were accidents not planned a lot serial killers who killed by accident. Cory played the role the city gave him. Just like with Jamie Lloyd Corey wasn’t going around murdering people until they had eye contact and they were touched by him. So ur wrong Corey cuz who did he out right murdered before coming in to contact with Michael I’ll wait? Sweet innocent Jamie had no blood on her hands

    • @Kira1Lawliet
      @Kira1Lawliet ปีที่แล้ว

@@johnwalkeristhatdude3018 You're missing my point. I'm not saying serial killers can't be made by circumstance or chance. There are plenty of people who are relatively normal if not for a few wires crossed wrong in their brain that makes them more amenable to harming or killing other living things. But there are people like Michael Myers who are just simply a different class of killer.
Corey is like the first group-an otherwise normal guy with a few anger issues or personality defects that make him more equipped to become a murderer with enough prodding.
But there are people like Michael who are, for lack of a better way of describing it, just born evil. Michael Myers wasn't bullied into becoming a killer (at least, not in this timeline, let's not talk about the Rob Zombie version). He didn't escalate. He just snapped out of nowhere and decided to start butchering his sister. And though they are rare, there are indeed people like Michael Myers in the real world-people who are just born with something so wrong in their brains and their psychology that they can't connect with other human beings, can't forge bonds with them, and just have a natural inclination to cause harm. There are people who are anti-social by nature and who have that same incurable blackness in their souls-they're rarer than your typical serial killer, but they do exist. That's the difference between Corey and Michael.

You're issue with her being happy finally is just a bit misguided I feel. After 40 years and losing people...maybe therapy and writing a book was her way of attempting to let it go??? She seemed the HAPPIEST that Laurie will ever be and we won't get another chance at seeing that at least with JLC involved anyways. As someone's who has been through tons of emotional trauma there does come a sort of fuck it point where you choose happiness. This was probably what they intended that to be.

I think Michael became weak because of food. Not because his old, not because he hasn't killed people, but he just has no good food like he used to have in a mental asylum. all Michael probably ate is some garbage waste given by that homeless person in exchange for the homeless person's life and that would probably explain why the homeless person is still alive while Michael has been dragging people into his new home to kill them, as it can be seen on some scenes that some citizens have been missing and Michael probably is the one responsible for that. His old home the Myers house is destroyed and he's purpose on all the Halloween movies is to get back to his house and kill people on the way, and the reason for killing people? I don't know nobody knows he just kills and that's what makes him The Shape. And so now he has no other places to go so he just lives in that sewers until he dies from old age or hunt Laurie down for damaging Michael on every encounter they've been through long time.

I just hated the arc of Corey in this. It was extremely rushed. If they had started it earlier then I could have understood it, but in this movie it spends a portion of the movie building him up and then he changes and goes 0 to 60 in no time. And then Allyson goes off the deep end as well. She falls for him extremely fast and you'd think she'd be more willing to listen to her grandma after having spent 2 previous movies proving how neurotic she's been for FORTY YEARS was for good reason. But no...let's have her have an extremely fast paced romance with the guy who also happens to be BFFs with the dude who killed both of her parents and previous boyfriend. This movie just did not work for me. I loved 2018, but Kills and then this...they just didn't work.
