SCREAM 5 Movie Description:
Scream (also known as Scream 5) is a 2022 American slasher film directed by Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) and written by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. It is the fifth installment in the Scream film series. Though billed as a relaunch of the film series, the film is a direct sequel to Scream 4 (2011) and is the first film in the series to not be directed by Wes Craven, following his death in 2015. The film is dedicated to Craven at the beginning of the closing credits. The film stars Melissa Barrera, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Sonia Ammar, alongside Roger L. Jackson, Marley Shelton, Skeet Ulrich, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Neve Campbell, who reprise their roles from previous installments. The film takes place twenty-five years after the original Woodsboro murders, when yet another Ghostface appears and begins targeting a group of teenagers who are each somehow linked to the original killings. Similar to previous entries, Scream combines the violence of the slasher genre with elements of black comedy and "whodunit" mystery to satirize the trend of reboots and legacy sequels. The film also provides commentary on the horror fandom culture, particularly the divide between "elevated horror" and classic slasher films.
Although fifth and sixth Scream installments were discussed after the release of Scream 4 in 2011, Craven, writer Kevin Williamson, and executive producer Harvey Weinstein had doubts about proceeding with more films following the less-than-expected box office performance of the fourth film. After the 2017 sexual assault allegations against Weinstein and the closure of The Weinstein Company, the rights to the Scream franchise were obtained by Spyglass Media Group in November 2019, who confirmed a new film would later be made. The following year, Williamson, who was returning as an executive producer, confirmed the film would not be a reboot and that Radio Silence had been hired in March 2020 to direct the film. Campbell and Arquette were confirmed to be returning later that month, with Cox and the new cast members joining throughout the middle of the year. The film's production was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so filming took place between September and November 2020 in North Carolina. To avoid any plot leaks, numerous versions of the screenplay were produced and several additional scenes were filmed.
Scream was theatrically released in the United States on January 14, 2022, by Paramount Pictures, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The film has grossed $140 million, making it the seventh highest-grossing film of 2022. It was praised by critics for honoring Craven's legacy and offering thoughtful meta-commentary on horror films, with some calling it the best of the Scream sequels. The development of a sequel was announced in February 2022, with a release date for March 31, 2023.

jenna was only 17 in the opening scene, i think thats why her attack seems so much more impactful, she was actually the age of a high schooler unlike most actors who play teens

Dewey's death scene lines and shots are by far the best in the franchise "It's an Honor!"... and Ghostface stands victorious, finally overlooking at one of the most memorable original likable characters, killing something inside us at the same time.
Sidney handing the gun to Gail was iconic.
In theaters when Dewey died people were wiping their tears and when Gail shot up Amber people were clapping.
Jenny Ortega should have been the final girl, and she and her sister should have faces off at the end Lile Sidney and her half brother in scream 3

To be fair, Ghostface said the "want to play a game" line long before Jigsaw existed. He said it to Casey in Scream.
Dewey didn't consciously look at his phone in that moment. It rang and he turned his head. It was an automatic reaction. Many people turn their heads suddenly when they hear a loud, sudden sound. Just sayin'.
Billy Loomis wasn't a good guy in the movie. Lol

Neve Campbell hasn’t signed on for Scream 6 yet because she wants to read the script first. She’s already came out and said, she will not participate if her character Sidney is killed off. It would be pointless. And I agree. Courtney Cox has already signed on for 6.

The thumbs up mindy and chad gave at the end to show they survived is a nod to Dewey in scream 1 doing a thumbs up showing he was still alive. Rip Dewey
One thing that made me feel a little better about losing Dewey was a comment I saw on another channel about how Dewey wasn't able to save his sister but he was able to save Sam's sister. It's not much but it helps a little bit.
When they showed her as a bit crazy, seeing her dad, I thought they'd make her the killer (but I hoped they wouldn't). Her snapping at the end was such a satisfying moment and it's hilarious that you saw it coming (I didn't see it coming at all). I was guessing the twins were the killers so I had no idea who it really was. And lastly, Dewey's last stand was heartbreaking.

Also when Ritchie says “Did you hit me with the phone?” It’s a Easter egg or whatnot to Stu’s line in the way it’s indicating he’s one of the killers.
When Ritchie is watching that TH-cam video one of the recommended videos or whatnot is of an interview with Kirby after she survived being attacked in the 4th one.
Wes Hicks dying is also like a homage in itself to Wes Craven and the pictures of the ravens in Stu’s house is a homage to Wes as well.

It's so sad some fans saying that the girl who played the new main character(Samantha) is not good. I think she did great in this film. That last scene where she stabbed ghostface many times was a badass moment💅🏻💅🏻💅🏻

I didn't personally enjoy her acting, it all felt stale and forced to me, but the scene where she snapped and killed her ex was great. This was the only scene where I actually felt the emotion in her voice.
Jenna did a wonderful job playing Tara and I could actually feel the fear and emotion put into her role. Therefore giving me more of an attachment to her character. Her pain and whimpers are so believable. Props to her.
My only criticism other than that was not enough "could it be you" moments that had us guessing who the killer was and second guessing ourselves. We barely got anything out of the suspects before they were killed.
I still love the movie but I hope they take the constructive criticism they received with this movie and make the next one even better.
I mean I called the boyfriend being the killer when Dewey did. Especially after he wasn't straight up murdered by Ghostface. I mean Tara was weak and slow AF so what was the rush?? If they wanted to sell it? They could've faked the death like in Scream 1 when they "killed" Billy Loomis.
And Mikey was barely given any time in screen for us to even suspect Amber as a killer. Every Scream leading up to this one gave us equal screentime for the killers outside of their killer role.
I mean the Twins had more lines than her, even if you combined when she was Ghostface. So it's not like I am pulling this outta nowhere.
Again, I am not coming at you, and I am genuinely happy you enjoyed Melissa's portrayal of Sam. Seeing as we both love the Scream franchise let's cross our fingers that the next one tops this one in every way or at the least gives some of the classics a run for their money.

It’s “Scream”. There’s always a scene when a character basically outlines how this particular entry will pan out.
Kirby surviving is confirmed through an easter egg. When Richie (jack quaid) is looking at a TH-cam video there are some suggested videos and one of them has Kirby as a thumbnail and the title says something along the lines of “survivor of Ghostface attacks speak of the events” (something along those lines)

I think the motivation for the killers and the commentary on toxic fandom is actually pretty good. There are some really crazy people in the world that I wouldn't put past in going to insane lengths to accomplish what the killers tried to in the movie. You mentioned that there is no point in their motivations and you're right. There isn't. Only people that would allow passionate fandom consume them so much that it would turn them insane and make them do crazy things. There are real life stories of celebrities that were killed by their own fans. Even one as recent as 2016 in Florida. Even if this movie were based on true events, the outside world would see no point in the motivations of these killers because that's how sane people rightfully think. So even if there is no point in the motivation for the killers that doesn't mean they were poorly conceived in the film, imo.

The tension building scene with Wes was great and I feel you with Dewey RIP. There is a thumbnail when the bf is watching TH-cam referencing Hayden’s character from 4, an interview with a survivor (her character).
The scene where Tara was watching TV in her hospital room before her attack. She was watching Dawson's Creek it was a tv series in the late 90's that Kevin Williamson wrote for. He also wrote for Scream, Scream 2, originally Scream 3 till they had to change the story and another writer came in and then he wrote Scream 4. Well Scott Foley who played Roman in Scream 3 as Sidneys half brother he was a recurring role in the early seasons of Dawson's Creek and that episode she was watching was a Friday of the 13th kind of episode but with a Scream 96 vibe to it. Scott Foley left Dawson's Creek to film Scream 3.
Stu macher is my favorite ghost face killer and character in the franchise hands down. Sam is a F'n beast. Ritchie and amber are horrible killers and Dewey's death did suck but everybody knew it was coming.
It's called an opinion and everybody is entitled to their own. Scream 4 and 2022 are my least favorites, I already explained why I hate this one and 4th is for the same reason and the motives for both movies are stupid as fuck. The 3rd movie is not very good but Roman is a great killer. The 2nd is the best sequel in the franchise hands down, my only complaint is Mrs Loomis. The 1st is a phenomenal movie, sidney is a beast. Stu macher and Billy are the best killers without a doubt. Now I'm done talking about it. Have a great weekend.

As much as it saddens me that Dewey was killed. But it was kind of poetic for him though he saved Sams little sister where he wasn't able to save Tatum. Also it makes since for Dewey to be the first legacy character to die out of the three. It gave us a chance to continue watching the Gale/Sidney arc. Dewey's death brought them together and to work as a actual team. Their relationship has grown a lot since the first Scream. Sidney/Dewey always had that Brother/sister relationship and Dewey/Gale always had that on and off again relationship. But Sidney and Gale were never close they always had Dewey has the middle person. With Dewey being gone it gives them that chance.
For those who don't believe that Amber could kill Dewey because of being a girl or due to her size. Dewey was doing good with hand on hand contact. Then he went back and got distracted by his phone ringing. That's the only reason Amber was able to get the upper hand cause he was off guarded. Also don't forget Dewey has nerve damage/limp, in his 50's, is a drinker now, hasn't stayed active at all and depression. He wasnt exactly in a good mental state at all. He knew he wouldn't be able to handle it this time around and wasn't going to but after talking with Sidney he changed his mind and tried to help. Also the way ghostface was with Sam on the phone trying to make her choose between Tara and Ritchie that's something Amber would do. It was her way of proving that Sam was "selfish" and doesn't care about her sister.
Amber is the hottest ghostface. I mean you gotta admit that, especially when she goes full psycho. That shit was 🔥
Amber is quite hot to be fair. She has a nice look and I did enjoy her psycho routine. I'd have to say though both Gale and Sidney in the original trump her.

One thing not ever mentioned is that almost all ghostface have like a signature in how they kill. I.e Stu doubled handed final stab,Amber multi stab,Richie loves being close watching the life drain. Love the detail to make them individual.

I so love your reaction to Sam going wild on Richie! Yes, that scene alone was definitely worth it to go to the cinema. I actually had to go see it a second time because that scene was so vivid, when I left the cinema all memories except for Sam stabbing like crazy were wiped from my memory.
Btw, the show Tara is watching in the hospital is 90s teen soap Dawson's Creek. It was created and written by Kevin Williamson who also created Scream and wrote parts 1, 2 and 4. The show was filmed in Wilmington (NC) - the same place the new Scream was filmed. The episode they are watching is actually spoofing the original Scream. Joshua Jackson, who had a brief appearance in Scream 2, is one of the main characters. In this episode, there is also an appearance from Scott Foley who played the killer in Scream 3.
That Dawson's Creek episode was pure fire the first time watching it. 👏🌟

This meta was perfectly done though in my opinion, it was actually needed this time, it was meta with a purpose, It was talking to the audience concerns and was setting up that this is a NEW thing, I cant remember all the details but MANY of the meta parts where very well executed, It was a good movie this time with a great motive finally, The Motive for this one was making another Stab movie based on their own events, they are obssessed with stab and in their universe they realize that the movies are made when real events happen, So they wanted a new movie based on something real, the last stab movies were bad because it was based on fiction, so their logic was For a stab movie to be good, It needs to take it back to the original and be based on A NEW REAL EVENT. Since they were obssessed fans of stab, they were remaking their own version of the film, but it wasn't a remake, it was a new story with the old. To me number 4 had a terrible motive and this new motive actually makes sense, Fit perfectly, It was a new way of 'blame the movies' motive but they weren't blaming the movies, they already were obssesed they just saw how those movies were being made every time a killer came back, so they wanted to be THOSE NEW KILLERS, and Fix their broken franchise, So in their minds it was 2 birds one stone. I thought i would hate that motive, but in context it makes so much sense!

I saw this with my mom and sister in theaters. We were the only 3 in the theatre. I balled when Dewey died.
Dewey’s death made my ass ugly cry and I don’t think I’ve ever cried in a horror movie until this movie. I’ll have to disagree with you when you say this is the most gruesome kills except Dewey and Wes’s deaths were good. I think the previous movies had much better kills compared to this movie well except 3 it didn’t have much blood but this version of ghostface was the most aggressive with a knife but scream 4 had much better kills at least 3 brutal kills with Olivia, the cop with the stab in the frontal lobe, and Trevor with that shot to the dick like ouchhhh. Imo this movie is probably the best shot movie like the cinematography was amazing and that hospital sequence was amazing kinda wished we got a chase sequence in this movie cause the hospital would’ve been great. Plus the line of “I wanna play a game” was already used in the original so they never stole that from the saw franchise they just happened to use that line sm that it’s associated with the franchise.
My sister and I were so sad that Dewey was killed. He was a good dude.

I'm not particulary a horror film fan, mostly cause I am not the best with horror. However I really have enjoyed watching horror films with Mell, personally I think it is because he offers a form of tension break with his commentary or jokes, so it doesn't make my anxiety get out of hand.

The Ghostfaces having shitty motivations it's the whole point, I think, especially in this one. It's to show how truly pathetic and rotten they are at their core. I would argue it's been part of the franchise since movie one, actually... If you ignore the ones with a personal beef with Sidney (Billy, his mon and Roman) the others (Stu and Mickey) were into it for laughs or for fame like the ones of the 4th movie and the morons of this one.

Also, if it's any comfort, Neve Campbell hasn't said yes yet to Scream 6 because she wants to see the script first but she said if Sidney is killed, she'll say no and won't come back. Fun Facts:
1. The Original Scream cast did voice overs Drew Barrymore was the principal on the intercom in the beginning. Also, Matthew Lillard (Stu) was the one in the TH-cam channel doing the medal ghostface voice and at the party he's the one that said " Cool house" to Amber when she was walking through. Jamie Kennedy (Randy) was the one that made the comment about the some goofy ass dad is here kicking everone out. Hayden (Kirby), principal Himbry were part of the "For Wes" when they cheered.
2. Also on that TH-cam channel the first clip on the side of the screen it was a Easter egg that confirmed Kirby survived from Scream 4. It was her doing a interview about being a survivor. Then below hers there's another clip asking if Stu Macher is still alive or not lol.
3. When Chad picked up the candle stick as a weapon it was reference to when Sidney grabbed a candle stick in Scream 3 to use as a weapon against Roman.
4. I don't know if you caught it or not but in Dewey's trailer he has Tatums ashes next to his gun box and picture of him and Gale.
5. Sidneys husband Mark is Detective Mark Kincaid from Scream 3.
6. Wes Kill Scene where he closed the front door. No one told Dylan that ghostface would be behind him so his reaction to it was legit lol.
7. Even though Mindy said to Wes about his mom being safe but yet they got killed anyways.
Two reasons: 1st is they killed the Sherrif and her son as a decoy/distraction to lure the cops away from the hospital their main target was Tara. 2nd reason they killed off Wes who is a reference for "Wes Craven" it was there way to have a memorial for Wes Craven in the movie

But it is objectively a bad movie. Scream and Scream 2 were realistic yet funny - Scream 3 is just ridiculously silly slapstick. You can't take that movie serious, and without realism there really is no point in making a Scream film. As many critics have pointed out: With Scream 3, the franchise became what it was mocking (though, again, I think it is saved by Sidney's arc that carried over from the previous two movies). It simply came out at the wrong time. One more reason to hate those two fucktards from Columbine - I mean, there are at least 13 better reasons, but yeah, they fucked this up, too.

As a horror fan, I can tell you since you've asked a few times, that yes. We do roar in approval or excitement whenever a iconic line happens OR a fan favorite character gets their moment.
It has to be franchises though. Saw, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Scream, Final Destination, Scary Movie are films you watch because your invested in the story and characters.
I remember this movie so much because of Dewey's death. The audience screamed, we cried and we booed. But than it's funny how mixed the reaction became of people saying it should have been Gale to people saying Dewey was the only OG character they could afford to lose.
