Happy holidays everyone, a bit if an off subject video to my usual content this one but hopefully some of you enjoy this. I hope you all have an incredible New Year and smash all those New Year’s resolutions 🎉
Not at all Levi, your content was riveting particularly the rapids footage & breathtaking landscapes - very enjoyable thanks for the trip. All the very best for the new year & look forward to more of your content - Melbourne gurl
I reluctantly unsubscribed from a dozen or so other channels that I had been watching but never yours. I had to take control of the sad and depressing news that I was being flooded with hourly. Thanks for providing content that makes me feel good!
Wow! What an awesome video. Whilst I have been in the general area and viewed something similar from a walking track, I cannot imagine doing it the way you did. Looking forward to your videos in the New Year. Take care and have a happy New Year.
That was worth watching Levi, purely to see the platypus. 👍👍👍 I remember fly fishing for trout in Tassie in the late 1990’s from memory & fished Arthur’s & Great Lake etc. I walked down from Mienna where we stayed to take a look at what remains of the famous Shannon Rise River, which nowadays is just the tail race from the overflow from Great Lake, and rather than fishing as I’d planned, I sat and watched a pair of platypus frolicking for at least 45 minutes, just mesmerised by their playful antics. Few years later I was back in WA where I hail from and blow me down if I didn’t spot a platypus at sunrise one morning in a southwest river while silently drifting along in my 16 ft Canadian Canoe. Once you’ve watched them like I did in Tassie - they are unmistakeable. So, because Platypus aren’t endemic to WA - I did some research & it turned out that back in 1898 from memory the Royal Acclimatisation Society (fore runner of Perth Zoo today) imported 2 pairs of platypus from the Murray River? - along with a shipment of trout fry eggs - and both pairs were released into “fly brook” just outside the town of Pemberton, where the trout hatchery was established. It was thought the introduction had been unsuccessful and they hadn’t persisted - yet my sighting basically 100 years later suggests they had. My sighting was in a local river that’s just over a saddle from the headwaters of Fly Brook where they were originally released. So it seems we might have a small but viable population of Platypus here in WA after all. If you can’t tell I’m enamoured with Platypus Levi, I could watch a whole video of nothing else. So when are you going to come over and snipe for gold in Southwest WAs rivers & streams? 🤷♂️ You’ve been just about everywhere else in Oz, might be time you pushed the boundaries a bit and “head west young man!”. You might not find much gold but you’d see some new rivers and forests if nothing else.
Excellent share with such details 👍. Would perhaps there'd been involvement of the Victorian Acclimatisation Society, one Archibald Alexander Carmichael Le Soeuf, in that era, his late grandson had an opal shop in Flinder's Lane and used to do his own prospecting, and a lot of folk got to know him and his forebear for being a guest on 3AW Australia Overnights for 3 decades, hence the above. Coincidentally our sister, 3 kids and partner had just today visited Healesville Sanctuary returning with toy kookaburra and a platypus, where the legend David Fleay had first reared platypus in captivity there, and arguably the public engagement caused more efforts for their conservation, a bit more than the artwork by the late Barry Humphries called "Platy-tox", around the early sixties too, but who am I to say. Cheers!
@ Yes I was a Wildlife Officer & Forester with our Conservation Department from 87 to 95, and started up my own deer farm. I did a lot of research about the introduction of deer into WA by acclimatisation society in late 1800’s & I came across a few mentions of LeSouffe (sp?). There was a farmer named McKenzie - Grant east of Geraldton WA - who was big in the acclimatisation society - in WA who had all manner of deer & antelope, zebra etc released on his property. The Indian Blackbuck Antelope have survived to this day. At one point during WW2 they were machine gunned by US soldiers serving here with Bren guns in the back of Willie’s jeeps, for pet food. I thought about trying to hunt one in my youth - but the area they are in got bought by Govt & turned into a joint US / Aussie spy listening base, patrols by armed soldiers - so sneaking around armed in camp gear trying to poach one to hang on the wall - looked to be too big of a health risk of getting shot as a spy. 😜😂😂😉🇦🇺
That was one of the most exciting, action-packed films you've done. The look on your face shooting the rapids was just awesome. (The helmet would have been helpful!) Sorry you couldn't get permission to share more of the Indigenous history, but not surprised that you were respectful. We looked it up because you couldn't tell us, but clearly it's a very sacred place. Would be interested to know if there are pictographs in the area made with ochre. Wishing you and everyone you love peace and joy in the new year! Looking forward to many exciting adventures in 2025! Maybe this will be the year of the thylacine!
Happy holidays to you Levi!! I never miss any of your videos and this one was nothing short of magical!! Thanks for sharing your beautiful Tasmania with me?!
This was an epic episode - so enjoyable. When you puffed out your cheeks on the river, I knew you were probably thinking what am I doing. Those rock outcroppings could have been real head knockers - you were dealing with both the rapids and the rock overhangs. I made several screen shots of the beautiful scenery - just incredible and thanks for taking us on this adventure;
Thanks for your great videos Levi! Love watching them. You are a legend. Camped in the Gog last summer… the only life we saw was a couple of roosters by the road. No frogs, no lizards, virtually no insects, no fish, no marsupials, no birds, no water bugs and no thylacines etc etc. The Gog has been decimated by forestry and the use of atrizine. Beautiful place but nearly zero animals.
Wow,just wow, that is beautiful and impressive country what a great place to loose your mind and forget all the stresses of civilisation truly wondrous place to be,thanks for taking us along, fanbloodytastik, cheers to you and yourse for the newyear ✌️👍👍❤🍷the old lenahvalley boys🎉
That looked like a blast. We may not have the gold as you do but we have choice paddling and fishing here in Maine USA. Kennebec, Penobscot, St. Croix Rivers to name a few. I' really liked to see that you do have dragon flies...outstanding adventure, hope you and your family get well soon. Cheers!
Spectacular scenery as per normal for you Levi shame you got the flu and same with the whole family too. Hope you all had a great Christmas and looking forward to seeing what you have installed for us all next year, Stay safe now and get lots of garlic into you for those colds& flu's mate.
fantastic scenery, bet it was a struggle going back. Now come on own up, you must have had a detector hidden away or spade for the gravel banks, sure I saw a snuffer bottle when you were unpacking. Wishing you and yours a happy new year.
The Deliverance Down under, those Oars were your duelling banjos and you made that inflatable squeal. Great video, I hope you can elude to why you had to omit some of the content.
You take us on a beautiful adventure we can’t go on our own. But you inspire us in so many ways. When I was younger I did white water rafting, I say younger, I was in my 60’s now in in 70’s it’s a step too far. Traveling with you brings back the thrill of it all. Thank you so much ☺️
Thanks mate. Youve done it again. Taken us to some really awesome places that normal folk cant get to. Loved the video. Youre a keen rafter I see. Thanks again and Happy New Year to you and yours.
I love the rapids, Mr. Squeaky. It's a shame you can't show what you've seen. The video doesn't disappoint as usual, it shows Tasmania for what it is. Thank you once again. May you , Louise and the boys have a great year in 2025.
Brilliant Adventure, Levi, was a bit nerve-racking without your helmet, but fortunately no major dramas, just some wet sweeties! I have always wanted to go to the Alum Cliffs, didn't realize it was that inaccessible, so very glad you took us along for the ride. Get well soon, and here's to a Happy & Healthy New Year, to you & the family!
I would have loved to hear the history and see the land of aboriginals. Beautiful landscape, exciting rafting and ice cold dips. Thanks for taking me along!
I know Papua New Guinea is a long way away from Tasmania. I live in United States and it always been a dream of mine to visit Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬 it has the most beautiful bird species in the world the birds of paradise
What a beautiful relaxing trip …. floating down the river w you 🩵 Great navigating those rapids except the scary roll 😮 I’ve always wondered what it looked like at the bottom of Alum Cliffs looking up, now I feel like I’ve been there… thankyou & have a wonderful New Year handsome 🩵 xx
Beautiful country, excellent video, jeez Levi, this reminds me, of when me, my friend and my cousin, won the first ever raft race, held on our town river. Same as the one you are on.In NZ. I was 14.1970. CHEERS FOR THE FUTURE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR. ❤❤❤
Bloody hell Levi, you have made me homesick mate. We have been stuck here in the Northern Rivers of NSW, our new home for the last 4 years. My other half has just gone through chemo and looks like she dodged a bullet. Coming home in September for three weeks, so I’ll up in the NW in my favourite river. Great video Levi. Glad you made the smart choice on the fast drop. I couldn’t remember if there was a waterfall ahead of you. Keep them coming pal. Happy New Year to you and your family.
Bummer that you couldn’t share it as your originally planned but it was one hell of a ride and it was great thanks for sharing see you on the next one👍🏼👊🏼
I saw a years worth of fishing and camping spots on that run. Even on the vid time slowed down a bit. The Grand Canyon... a bit different, like another planet.
This was a great one, looked super fun, and was hilarious to watch. I kept picturing watching my dad make videos like this and how entertaining that would be to watch.
Wow, that was an awesome adventure. I've been to Tassie once for a couple of nights but didn't see any of the spectacular scenery that you & Rob show us. Well done

Is it the Aboriginals that don't want their story told (it is theirs) or the present landowners?
@@SmallWonda back then it was the local elders.
That area was incredibly beautiful!
