I good series for the channel could be 'QUAD CORTEX: Models vs Captures', where you compare the models on the QC against your own captures as well as other professionals captures.
Nice, you brought the series back! I think it sounded pretty good, even though digital amps don't have that tube sizzle, but that's another can of worms. Also hope your pride and joy will get fixed soon! If I'm putting 2 and 2 together from your stories, it sucks that the Grimoire is out of commission
great job Taylor, there is a lot of hype in Quad Cortex, Neural does a good job with its plugins, I don't understand why they didn't make a similar one for this product, at the moment I can't afford one of these units, at the moment it doesn't convince me, it's not time to retire my Fx II, it would be interesting to share between the two, happy holidays.
Good tip on the QC recto, turn the master down to like 1 at max, and tweak the output volume. The Recto saturates like _crazy_ , as it does in real life, so keep the master low for that gnarly metallica tone :P
Yay! Does a great job! Just wish it wasn't so expensive! It definitely does the job, & sounds great!! I agree with your assessment!!! 🤘 Rock on Talylor!!
For whatever reason when it comes to rectos there's something about just coming out of that oversized cab that makes all the difference. Probably all in the perception of the low end, also in the mix I think the head has a lot more high end content (sizzle). Like at the very top of the spectrum is a lot more noticeable.
Huh-huh! He said "recto". The QC does quite well here, leaning a bit darker, though I suspect a capture of the Recto would be even closer. I don't have a Fortin Grind to capture though I could, I suppose, get the trial version of Neural DSP's Fortin Nameless suite and capture the Grind within that to get super meta.
I'd love too have a Quad Cortex, but sadly I dont have an extra $3,000 laying around! Maybe I'll ask Santa for one this year! (Yeah that'll happen!) The best thing about this piece of gear is it's portablility, for gigging ect. Love your channel, and most of your content as well! 🤘
I think the STL Amphub is bar far the best modelled version of the Rectifier, I captured it with a Fortin 33 in front. Sounds Killer. I didn't like the Factory preset on the QC at all.
Randomly stumbled across this when looking at you Twinnote Boogie video. Wouldn't that also technically be a Rank That Recto video? Anyway, I'm Recto obsessed so seeing this kind of stuff is always super cool. I'll probably buy one someday just to have it even though I have an Axe-FX III. If I could find a dummy head somewhere, that'd be cool too.
In order not to be so negative, I can say that comparing my Peavey 6505 Mini Head to QC's version I can tell no difference (as a badroom guitarist). The difference is in EQ knobs, they react differently, which is neither good nor a bad thing at all. The most noticeable difference is in gain knob, in the real Peavey you get high gain tone much faster, at like 2-2.5 you already get a good clear high gain, while on QC you get the same ammount of gain at aproximately 5-6, which I personally find more convenient as you can boost it much easier.
There is a fizz I here with the real recto that I do not here with the Quad, for that reason, I would say I like the quad better. But I think that if bass was added you might not even here the fizz, might be from the tube screamer? I don't know. Very comparable, in a full mix you probably wouldn't be able to tell.
I prefer the QC version, It took away that sizzle that comes with the Dual Rectifier head. And on my old Tri-rec, I preferred classic mode over Modern.
If you are trying to get a dual rectifier sound then why not use one of the flagship features of the QC, which is to capture any amplifier? Why not capture your own amp and see if it sounds close? Or try some other captures?
Cool vid. I thought the quad cortex was really going to be a game changer but every video is just more confirmation that it's behind the competition. The amp match feature is it's only saving grace besides the cool touch screen in my opinion. I've yet to hear a video that is impressive. Maybe after the next iteration it will be able to make a bountiful leap over the existing competition.
well it has less hi end aliasing problems than the obsolete kemper, less latency as well. the axe fx does not capture well at all. the kemper has low end woble as well. the qc is not perfect but it doesn't have those drawbacks. which would you rank higher?
Sick guitar! Does that have the Fishman's in it? I have a limited edition Solar A1.6 with their Soar Duncan's in it, with the Evertune bridge. I THINK I have enough other guitars with FR bridges, and as much as I love em - they are a pain it the arse! I do want a Solar V, so I'll juggle that in my head till I decide! (I am digging the Evertune, it's set & forget for the life of the strings, it just doesn't "dive-bomb" & the like...
Not too bad of comparison, in the mix definitely cannot tell the difference via YT. However, you're right if I closed my eyes and only heard the sounds, it may be a coin toss.
QC is still missing something, there's this scratch that's in there, literally a cutting scratch that isn't necessarily an ice pick scratch, it's there at the point of attack, hard to describe. The real amp didn't have that... Still good and very workable. Ampero for the win :P
Honestly don't rate the recto models in the qc, the tremoverb model is slightly better but i still dont dig it Luckily the amp guru pack had like 3 rectos and a rack unit so just stick to them and they sound great
@@TaylorDanley i mean a tremoverb is technically still a dual rec of sorts so you could still do the same series hehe Or just do a capture of your recto and do rate that recto but i feel that would be unfair as it would be like 95%-99% accurate hahaha
hehe true that, I don't mind paying for a plugin that sounds a bit eeh but 2 grand on a floor box that sounds like its inside a shipping container? Thats a hard pass
Definitely close, still some discrepancies though for sure as expected. The rectifier has this responsiveness when you bite into it that modelers just can’t emulate. Great example of this is testament the gathering. No boost used but the insane hard picking makes the tracks absolutely slam.
They used Rectos on that album? Do you have sources on that? Always wondered what sound that was, definitely has that chunky recto feel to it, especially on down for life!
Man real amp sounds always wider in the mix. Notes separation especialy is better on real amp. BUT quad cortex is the best digital imho. BUT factory rectifier is not my favourite...
It kind of reminds me of the ML Sound Lab Dual and how people were super meh about that, but I swear real rectifiers aren't much different... you really have to tinker with them to get them to come to life. Unlike a 5150 where it's basically plug and chug.
QC still sounds like shit even compared to other modelers. That artifitial high end, scooped sound and overall digital flatness and fakeness is just unplesant to listen to. And with videos like this I wonder if they ever gonna get it right everyone is just prasing them for no reason...
It's crazy how close they sound. Love Rank that Recto :).
I good series for the channel could be 'QUAD CORTEX: Models vs Captures', where you compare the models on the QC against your own captures as well as other professionals captures.
Yeah, not a bad idea 🤔
I thought it was remarkably close and could be dialed in even more exactly. Great job as always!
FUN video my friend! Very stoked on the vibe and the work you put in.. Cheers!

Thanks dude! It’s all good now! Just needed to take of the saddles and fix the order they were in.
Sick! 😃👍 love this tone and the MB in general 😉
pretty damn good! I think I still liked the real thing better but only because you A,B'd them. I'm constantly impressed by neural's tones!

Thanks! Yeah I don’t know if I’m convinced yet either honestly.
@@TaylorDanley its not good sounding this rectifier..thing! unfortunately..not for 1700 euro for sure!!
Those AmpGuru Profiles really kick some serious butt :D
They’re great!
I feel like it really comes alive with the Fortin Grind.
Grind/33/DT/Penta Demon all have a similar effect on a rectifier and make it super pissed
@@TaylorDanley i concur and it sounds so dope
Awesome comparison! Comes really close, probably you can come closer with some eq moves afterwards. Thx for making this!

There’s a bunch on the cloud, I can share mine to when I get to my studio later. QC was a bit drier to my ears

I hope Neural will make some updates soon, so that MY "rectifier" wouldn't be/get/stay so rect. Maybe in the new update they will make QuadTifier.

True. The real rectifier didn’t take as much to push it either. The Quad Cortex rectifier needed some help to get the pissed off sound
I prefer the QC version, It took away that sizzle that comes with the Dual Rectifier head. And on my old Tri-rec, I preferred classic mode over Modern.

They're pretty close once you mess with them a bit!
sounds very good I mean QC is so close to DR. Damn good sound
How do I get this rectifier patch for the quad cortex? Do you have a preset to purchase or download for this?
Will there be a big “Rank that Recto shoot-out” at some point? (Unless there is already one in which case send me to it and ignore my insolence!!)
Did you ever release one with the fractal?
How do you like it compared to the Axe (Recto or Marks in general)? Love my 33 and Marks.

Please, please do this Using the POD go. Did I mention PLEASE!
How do you made the thumbnail
This made me sell the qc and buy a second hand mesa dual rec and still have money to buy whatever.
I wish they’d make a rack unit 🥺
There’s just a slight difference between the two. But I think I prefer the quad cortex over the actual amp.
What power amp are you using?
Honestly don't rate the recto models in the qc, the tremoverb model is slightly better but i still dont dig it

hehe true that, I don't mind paying for a plugin that sounds a bit eeh but 2 grand on a floor box that sounds like its inside a shipping container? Thats a hard pass
Sounded very close.. the real amp just sounded more on the clarity where even some of that shrilly sound was there
close but the real recto still have that evil fizz and spank on the butt sound
Hi-end is different clearly! The real one is far more open... That's what I could hear.
I dont know why but tone from QC is in the face with a lot noises - they seem very artificial. :(
"Ok"
Sounded like the bass guitar was sitting better in the mix with the real Mesa.
So yeah minor differences. I'd be interested to see if two different rectifiers wouldn't deviate just as much....
