3:58:59 Dale Earnhardt doing Alan Kulwicki's "polish victory lap" while carrying a Davey Allison flag in a race with Neil Bonnett as the color commentator. Just an amazing scene looking back.
R.I.P. to all four of those legends, each taken too soon.

I was a kid when we lost Alan, Davey and Neil. That was the first time it felt like someone took the air out of me. I was a kid and remembered Pocono in 92. I was a fan of Davey Allison from then on at seven years old

I'll never forget this race. The year before I got to watch ( at the time) my favorite driver DW win at Pocono. However I saw that crash between DW and Davey thru binoculars from the grandstands. It was horrifying. So fast forward a year later and just be heartbroken about his passing. My aunt who got us tickets was a huge Davey fan .. I always rooted for Davey in DW couldn't win. It was just so sad. The whole weekend was just so melancholy. Looking back now, it was the only time I got to see Dale Earnhardt Sr win a race. To see him and Rusty take laps and carry the 28 flag was special.

So very cool to find this. I was at this race. In fact it was the first NASCAR Cup race I ever attended, and now in 2020 I can say I've been to 54 Cup races at 22 tracks (Atlanta being the lone hold-out, although I had tix for the postponed COVID race), but this 93 Pocono was my FIRST. Thank you, NCMarrk

You could hear the hurt and broken heart in Dale's voice.

Pocono's three turns were all modeled after other tracks.
Turn 1 - The old Trenton Speedway in NJ.
Turn 2 - The 9° turns at Indianapolis.
    Turn 3 - Milwaukee Mile

It was long one of NASCAR’s three most competitive tracks. Radical tires, shifting, elimination of the drafting effect so hurt the racing there to where banking it like Atlanta has become something needed

my god we're nearly 31 years from when this all happened. 31 years and it still hurts, i still makes tears come to my eyes watching this. i remember when we found out davey died. we'd been out doing something and got home. dad turned news no while mom got supper, and i went to my room like normal.......... well that was the last normal moement of that day. i'd no sooner got in there and dad hollerred bill get out here. i'm thinking what the .......? we just got home i wasn't in trouble when we left, i didn't do anything to get in trouble while we were gone, and i'v've not been home long enough to get in trouble yet....... dad said i said get out here. and they were talking about daveys crash and it not looking good. and i thought when does this nightmare end. i'll be honest i wasn't a alan fan. ok shoot me and get over it. but as i found out stuf, learned about him, etc. i was starting to come around. you just can't not help admire a guy that goes through life with a dream and won't stop till he gets it. i was however a huge davey fan. to back up a minute, i'd been a nascar fan off and on all my life. and racing in general. at this point was getting back into nascar and learning about the busch series. davey was probably the first "nup and comer" i'd really followed. i'd liked cale, i kind of liked bobby, but davey was probably the first "young gun" i'd been like he's my guy for the future.cale was near end of his career, bobby soons would be unfortunately, davey was a rookie replacing cale. back to 93 i'm nearly in tears and thinking when do i get ot wake up from this? this can't be real? this can't be happening again? looking back nearly 31 years later it still doesn't hurt any less. i never got a chance to meet davey, though almost (i think) got a chance to meet bobby in 94 by accident (assuming it was him if you want that story ask) adn would meet bobby the year he went in the hof. i never really thought about if i even remembered watching this in 93 and saw neils comments. when your friend commits suicide, and you hae to go to school the next day and wish you were any where else you dont' ask your parents if you can take the day off you go to school. (been there done that). when you've got a funeral to go to and a short window to do everything because of work schedules, meaning up one day, funeral next come home the 3rd day een though u gotta cover 1400 miles in those 3 days.......... you do it. (unforunately been there doen that too.) when you say you're going to be somehwere yo do it. it's not easy, it's not fun, and yeah if people knew what was going on nobody would blame you for calling out, but you do it. kids today would learna good lesson hearing that speech from and bobby. i assume i did then, i relearned it now............. rip davey hope i get to see you some day.

How ironic that Neil, who tried to save Davey, would be killed at Daytona just a few months later practicing

"It's hard to race with tears in your eyes" Yates said this to reporters after he withdrew the #28 entry since there was no driver and the team was still in a vulnerable and saddened state after Davey's death. They had to scramble to find a driver, Robby Gordon would drive at Talladega the next week and Lake Speed would take over in the summer (with Dorsey Schroeder on the road courses) and then Ernie Irvan would get to drive in September of 1993. Overall, the Yates team still had Davey's win at Richmond in the spring and Ernie Irvan added two wins at Martinsville and Charlotte in the fall to go with his win in the spring at Talladega in the Kodak car.

If NASCAR wants to put more butts in seats...
They should Upgrade this track, With Banked turns. Have them banked as much, Or a little more than Daytona. Now THAT would be an exciting race!!!
