It sounds like the "captain" was more worried about his boat being pulled into deeper waters than the welfare of his customers. First mistake was not training them properly. Second, going out into uncertain weather. Third, cutting them loose. Negligent and criminal in every way. Hope he gets his due justice....

This is a hard case. Yes the boat operator took these people up when he should have ceased operating due to excessively high winds but the mother should not have taken two little children up in the parasail. It was Obviously unfavourable weather and she should have known better. Cutting the line was possibly the best of the bad choices the boat operator had at the time.
As an avid boater of 25 years who boats weekly in Pacific Northwest waters that are cold and deadly, this was outright negligence. This man was paid for this and should have known weather conditions! Every experienced boater knows to check wind strength, direction and all weather...including small craft advisories. When weather started to change since he was already out on the water, he should have gotten them on his boat immediately. Cutting the lines, he did not try to save them! The other boats had to save the boys and managed to. He deserves to be fined and jailed plain and simple! We have towed a boat in distress...my husband is coast guard trained. This is not appropriate boating behavior and is criminal in nature. Those poor kids and losing both a Mother to one and an Aunt to the other? NO words will suffice in this unnecessary tragedy!
I'm just wondering if the coast guard can set rules like cutting a robe on someone in the air. Is that a normal procedure? This has happen before where the line was cut and they go sailing off into the storm.

We’ve went to other countries and did parasailing and if the captain thinks the wind is even little too much he just cancelled the ride. This guy sounds like it was all about profit and didn’t even consider the well being of those people. My condolences to that family.
Got friends that live out there and yes the weather is very unpredictable but this captain still should look out for dangerous conditions but who knows how long his been doing this kind of work.

Let give you even more clues, the two quickest ways to get a sail back on the ground (water) is to 1> stop the boat 2> or cut the boat from the sail . In both case this stops the propulsion force that would keep them in flight. I worked for a para-sail company in Kona Hawaii. Cutting the sail to save the boat is MADNESS, not to mention sailing in bad weather! That captain is totally liable...

I've parasailed with my wife in slightly rough weather conditions before and my wife freaked out midair and began to feel weak. She was still holding on to the belts connecting us to the sail but said she was about to lose consciousness. I signaled the captain twice and when he realized what was going on he began retracting the line and we started descending. I can't imagine what this poor woman and kids went through but it must've been a terrifying experience. The fact that the captain decided to cut the ONLY connection they had to safety rendering them completely vulnerable and helpless is unfathomable and infuriating. No one in their right mind would ever make such a decision, let alone someone who does this for a living and is supposed to follow safety standards and regulations and act in a professional manner. This is a clear case of manslaughter but I would also look into other motives as well. Those kids are traumatized for life and the son will live the rest of his life without his mom. Manslaughter sentences do not reflect that and will never feel like justice has been done. Note: the captain of the boat did not attempt to follow them in his boat, he did not try to help in any way and, contrary to his claims, his phone records showed no 911 call attempt. He surely is a pos.

Something very similar happened like this several years ago in NC. The families only got $100,000 because there is some crazy maritime law that limited this to be the max payout. People were outraged but there was nothing that could be done. The guy skated away with millions still in his pocket because he has a very successful business while he killed 2 people. There was even a small craft Waring out at the time they took people out and yet that still didn't matter in the settlement.

Having spent the last several months traveling the keys on a small sail boat, I have seen many Incidents tourist boat captains being irresponsible or simply plain stupid.
People need to study the history of Southern Florida. He gladly took their money but wanted no responsibility for their safety. @1:39 - 'Since it is an active investigation, it is nobody's place'. Huh? How about this is a terrible accident and we pray for the family and friends. They better get a lawyer quick because they will be riding on scooter after the civil lawsuit.
Not only did he obviously not show them how to release their harness but he then INTENTIONALLY cut them lose to fend for themselves. Criminal negligence that will land him in prison.

I live In the Keys. They should have never went out to begin with. We knew the weather would be bad the day prior and appropriate warnings were issued for marine crafts. It was the reason we didn't go out on our boat for Memorial day. But that being said I am told the entire family was still on the boat while it was being dragged down. Perhaps the captain was trying to save 10 other lives? Still a bad choice. Never cut the line. But we weren't in his shoes at the time.
If the weather was that bad the captain should have known to not operate that day. Then he chose to cut the line to save his boat, not his life, but his boat. The captain is directly responsible for that mother's death, he should be held accountable.

Only two reasons for cutting a line. First reason, extreme wind gust or the towing craft was so small it was being lifted into the air from extreme wind gust. Both situations are caused by negligent operators who use to small of a towing vessel in regards to the size of the parasail and weight of the customer & craft. Also, not canceling when the weather is to dangerous to safely operate.
@@thefix2573 Good point! Yeah, I never brought my son surfing with me at 25’ Waimea Bay. However, we often surf together in 2’ to 5’ conditions at spots the have sand bottoms instead of reef. Sadly, many parents are unaware of changing weather conditions, (in regards to safety) or the potential of how dangerous certain “activities” can be.

This is why I would never go parasailing. You don’t have any control in the air and have to rely on the boaters and I’ve learned more than enough in my young life to not rely on others if you’re not able to take any ounce of control.

Every year a woman who I went to High School talks about the Parasailing accident(on Facebook) that injured her daughter and husband and warns of the dangers of it. I agree 100%. They weren't cut from their line or anything but they did slam into a building and were gravely injured. Makes you think. Is it worth it?
That boat owner had better be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, and the family should sue continue by suing him in civil court for compensatory and punitive damages too!

I've never parasail before. I wonder if you would have the ability to disconnect from the harness while in flight. It probably wouldn't be pleasant hitting the water at such a height but better that steel and concrete..
@@melloyellogsxr a harness you could "quick disconnect" would defeat the whole idea of a harness for safety, but look at that CHOP. The water says this wind/condition was around long enough for a trained operative to shut down the sail.

The boat captain needs to go to jail for murder if he was a professional and license he should not have had people out there and adverse weather conditions I know Florida weather changes quickly but it doesn't change so quickly that you don't know when to call it a day
I live on an island and when the weather is like that it's advisable not to do any water sports or go fishing in case of severe weather changes. And that was the captain's and business fault for allowing that.
The same thing happened on Panama City Beach several years ago, the Captain cut the line with two young girls up in the air because his boat was being pulled backward; the two young girls hit the top of a condo and got hurt real bad, neither girl's life will ever be the same because of their injuries, it was first reported by a local TV station that the Captain cut the rope to save his vessel from being dragged into shallow waters, then the TV station was prevented from saying the Captain had cut the rope. Nothing was ever done to the boat Captain, he wanted to save his boat, he didn't care about the two girls! TRUE STORY!

Needs to banned permanently, this has happened quite frequently throughout its history. It's should not be a tourist activity if somebody wants to do it as a sport, that's their own decision, risk and responsibility as an individual.

I went parasailing in the Bahamas 20 years ago, never again. A single clip was holding us to the sail, and it was terrifying... Not my idea of a thrill ride.

My thoughts exactly. She had probably shielded the kids from hitting the structure, and was crushed between the bridge and their bodies, thus saving their lives. She made the ultimate sacrifice, up until the very end, to protect and save her kids.
Economy is tough and unfortunately people will try to make a buck whenever they can. I live in Florida and this was just irresponsible by the boat owner. He/she should be held liable, especially when they were more worried about the boat rather than securing the safety of the victims. I was in Mexico, these guys were pros taking off from the beach them dropping every group that went up back on beach in the exact same spot, right on the X.. I watched about ten people or more as I drank and ate food. That is skill

It sounds like the "captain" was more worried about his boat being pulled into deeper waters than the welfare of his customers. First mistake was not training them properly. Second, going out into uncertain weather. Third, cutting them loose. Negligent and criminal in every way. Hope he gets his due justice....

This is a hard case. Yes the boat operator took these people up when he should have ceased operating due to excessively high winds but the mother should not have taken two little children up in the parasail. It was Obviously unfavourable weather and she should have known better.
Cutting the line was possibly the best of the bad choices the boat operator had at the time.

The boat had 8 people on it. Captain, mate, and 6 members of the same family. 3 adults and 3 kids. I guess he wasn't just saving his boat.
As an avid boater of 25 years who boats weekly in Pacific Northwest waters that are cold and deadly, this was outright negligence. This man was paid for this and should have known weather conditions! Every experienced boater knows to check wind strength, direction and all weather...including small craft advisories. When weather started to change since he was already out on the water, he should have gotten them on his boat immediately. Cutting the lines, he did not try to save them! The other boats had to save the boys and managed to. He deserves to be fined and jailed plain and simple! We have towed a boat in distress...my husband is coast guard trained. This is not appropriate boating behavior and is criminal in nature. Those poor kids and losing both a Mother to one and an Aunt to the other? NO words will suffice in this unnecessary tragedy!
I'm just wondering if the coast guard can set rules like cutting a robe on someone in the air. Is that a normal procedure? This has happen before where the line was cut and they go sailing off into the storm.

We’ve went to other countries and did parasailing and if the captain thinks the wind is even little too much he just cancelled the ride. This guy sounds like it was all about profit and didn’t even consider the well being of those people. My condolences to that family.
It did read another report that said the weather changed quickly. The temp suddenly dropped and the wind kicked up unexpectedly.

In most states and situations like this they will go with manslaughter since it would be easier to gain a conviction ( remember double jeopardy applies, so if they can't meet the standards for murder they can't retry with manslaughter )

I do not think for one second the capt would thought the wind would drag them over a mile away into a bridge. I would also think any reasonably intelligent person would have came up with the same conclusion. We all could be made and upset, but that does not change the legal requirement.
And if any other parasailer are called as witness and say will I would or have also cut my tie rope as a normal means to cancel a wing on flight, I would think. the state of FLA would have a hard time even gaining a mansalugher conviction.
Let give you even more clues,
the two quickest ways to get a sail back on the ground (water) is to 1> stop the boat 2> or cut the boat from the sail . In both case this stops the propulsion force that would keep them in flight. Me and you where not present an thy already have person ( witness ) who claim he did not see the event unfolding as alife or death emergency until it became a life or death event.

I've parasailed with my wife in slightly rough weather conditions before and my wife freaked out midair and began to feel weak. She was still holding on to the belts connecting us to the sail but said she was about to lose consciousness. I signaled the captain twice and when he realized what was going on he began retracting the line and we started descending. I can't imagine what this poor woman and kids went through but it must've been a terrifying experience. The fact that the captain decided to cut the ONLY connection they had to safety rendering them completely vulnerable and helpless is unfathomable and infuriating. No one in their right mind would ever make such a decision, let alone someone who does this for a living and is supposed to follow safety standards and regulations and act in a professional manner. This is a clear case of manslaughter but I would also look into other motives as well. Those kids are traumatized for life and the son will live the rest of his life without his mom. Manslaughter sentences do not reflect that and will never feel like justice has been done.
Note: the captain of the boat did not attempt to follow them in his boat, he did not try to help in any way and, contrary to his claims, his phone records showed no 911 call attempt. He surely is a pos.

Something very similar happened like this several years ago in NC. The families only got $100,000 because there is some crazy maritime law that limited this to be the max payout. People were outraged but there was nothing that could be done. The guy skated away with millions still in his pocket because he has a very successful business while he killed 2 people. There was even a small craft Waring out at the time they took people out and yet that still didn't matter in the settlement.

I live In the Keys. They should have never went out to begin with. We knew the weather would be bad the day prior and appropriate warnings were issued for marine crafts. It was the reason we didn't go out on our boat for Memorial day. But that being said I am told the entire family was still on the boat while it was being dragged down. Perhaps the captain was trying to save 10 other lives? Still a bad choice. Never cut the line. But we weren't in his shoes at the time.
If the weather was that bad the captain should have known to not operate that day. Then he chose to cut the line to save his boat, not his life, but his boat. The captain is directly responsible for that mother's death, he should be held accountable.

Only two reasons for cutting a line. First reason, extreme wind gust or the towing craft was so small it was being lifted into the air from extreme wind gust. Both situations are caused by negligent operators who use to small of a towing vessel in regards to the size of the parasail and weight of the customer & craft. Also, not canceling when the weather is to dangerous to safely operate.
I used to fly, was into caving and old mines, caught rattle snakes, rode a motorcycle 120 mph, but I didn't have kids.....

This is why I would never go parasailing. You don’t have any control in the air and have to rely on the boaters and I’ve learned more than enough in my young life to not rely on others if you’re not able to take any ounce of control.
Why would you allow a family to go out in weather and waves like that. When you begin to vaule money over lives. Then you should not run a company that puts lives at risk if you don't care for people's safety the fact you can look children in the face and still put them out in rough conditions like that is ridiculous

Every year a woman who I went to High School talks about the Parasailing accident(on Facebook) that injured her daughter and husband and warns of the dangers of it. I agree 100%. They weren't cut from their line or anything but they did slam into a building and were gravely injured. Makes you think. Is it worth it?

Charges should be filed against the business owner & boat captain. They should never have been operating in such bad weather. They are 100% responsible for the womans death & the injuries to the children.

I've never parasail before. I wonder if you would have the ability to disconnect from the harness while in flight. It probably wouldn't be pleasant hitting the water at such a height but better that steel and concrete..
@@melloyellogsxr a harness you could "quick disconnect" would defeat the whole idea of a harness for safety, but look at that CHOP. The water says this wind/condition was around long enough for a trained operative to shut down the sail.
I'm from an area with a lot of parasailing boats. Half of these clowns are obsessed with money your life is secondary to the money. If you want justice you need to charge this Captain with 3 counts of murder and sent a message to this community otherwise it changes nothing.

The boat captain needs to go to jail for murder if he was a professional and license he should not have had people out there and adverse weather conditions I know Florida weather changes quickly but it doesn't change so quickly that you don't know when to call it a day
I live on an island and when the weather is like that it's advisable not to do any water sports or go fishing in case of severe weather changes. And that was the captain's and business fault for allowing that.
To just watch and know nothing can be done is so heartbreaking. The captain should be charge.

The same thing happened on Panama City Beach several years ago, the Captain cut the line with two young girls up in the air because his boat was being pulled backward; the two young girls hit the top of a condo and got hurt real bad, neither girl's life will ever be the same because of their injuries, it was first reported by a local TV station that the Captain cut the rope to save his vessel from being dragged into shallow waters, then the TV station was prevented from saying the Captain had cut the rope. Nothing was ever done to the boat Captain, he wanted to save his boat, he didn't care about the two girls! TRUE STORY!
You call him a Captain , not a true one , in any case , a Captain would not let loose/cut the tether from the boat, should of just reel them back down, the weather looked very bad and windy , that also should of been considered not to go, because of money he should be held accountable for his selfish reasons

Needs to banned permanently, this has happened quite frequently throughout its history. It's should not be a tourist activity if somebody wants to do it as a sport, that's their own decision, risk and responsibility as an individual.

I went parasailing in the Bahamas 20 years ago, never again. A single clip was holding us to the sail, and it was terrifying... Not my idea of a thrill ride.

My thoughts exactly. She had probably shielded the kids from hitting the structure, and was crushed between the bridge and their bodies, thus saving their lives. She made the ultimate sacrifice, up until the very end, to protect and save her kids.

Economy is tough and unfortunately people will try to make a buck whenever they can. I live in Florida and this was just irresponsible by the boat owner. He/she should be held liable, especially when they were more worried about the boat rather than securing the safety of the victims. You can tell by the video, the owners of that boat are Florida trash.

I was in Mexico, these guys were pros taking off from the beach them dropping every group that went up back on beach in the exact same spot, right on the X.. I watched about ten people or more as I drank and ate food. That is skill

Whoever Cut the Rope needs to be charged with murder because he did not have to do that I'm a parasailing president of a company that builds them and flies them. My knowledge is astonishing when it comes to parasailing and the boats that are pulling them
