First of all, thank you for for being foster parents. Those kids get so little stability and comfort in their lives, constantly being shifted place to place. Giving them a safe place even for a little while is so important. I guess I should talk about the vase, too 😁 I'm not a wood crafter but it's always fascinated me. I appreciate how you "read" the piece of wood before starting and point out the flaws and features, why you mount it in a given way, and what tools you're using and why. I admit, whenever you reach for any sort of coloring agent I go NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! because I like wood to be wood colored, but the ebonized finish with the silver wax came out quite well. Reminds me of owl feathers.
Thanks so much, fostering can be very hard work but it is always worth it. We have two sisters that have been with us for 5 years now and we are so proud of how far they have come 😀
@@MikeHolton You are absolutely right. We did this in our family, too, for about six or seven years and took care of children in critical situations until it was cleared where they can stay permanently. Some for just a few days or weeks, some for one or more years. In total it were eight children (besides our own three). With some of them we are in contact until today. In other cases sadly we don't know where they are now and how they are doing. But we still like to think of all of them and we hope their lifes got enriched by the time in our family as much as our lifes were enriched by having them in our home.
@@drucker03 We are the same, some of the children we are still in touch with and others we are not, I would love to know where they all are but that is not to be.
This turned out great. Fingers crossed the sale pieces sell for a good amount. Providing for foster kids can't be cheap, and they need all the stability they can get in their lives.

I love watching your videos. Truly its watching a master at his craft. I wish I could comment on every video but unfortunately I am watching them on my Fire Stick. My favorite part is how your human and change your mind an figure out how it going to turn out as you go, and we get to here that, its not just another turning video that puts you to sleep.
I really enjoyed watching your confidence build as you continued to carve. Aren't cherry trees wonderful? They spend their lives making people happy with flowers and fruit, and now this one will continue to make people happy forever. Beautiful piece. Would make a great lamp base.
Beautiful result! I think you made the right choice making the decorative cuts at slightly different angles. This has a real "midcentury modern" feel that I really love.
Don’t be nervous! Even just pretending confidence and perseverance wins. It does have a ceramic vibe to me…and I love it! Great vision and work. Cheers! Joe CA
Adding that silver wax made those cut in areas pop so nice. I love the way the knot looked near the neck. It had an almost kintsugi look, just with silver. Great job as always Mike. Some people are going to love those pieces you are selling!
Good morning Mike. Once again you have produced a beautiful piece which will take pride of place in a calm environment for a child. Thank you for sharing and inviting me to join you on your journey 🌞
Loving the shape of this vase, and the lovely wood grain. Enrich time you try new things I hold my breath, not wanting you to have accidents or bad outcomes. But you always surprise me. And this one really did. So glad you put on the silver paste over the ebonizing solution. Actually the cuts on it look really good! Nice work Mike. ❤
Well done, Mike! New techniques are always interesting to attempt. It looks Great! I like the randomness of the intentionally different angles of the cuts.
Hi Mike, Well this was a chip of the old block. That was a very interesting design and it turned out great yet again. I'm sure the foster children will appreciate such an organic looking vase. The ebonizing really gave it a very neat finish. Till next time. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I never knew Cherry could be darkened like Oak so that's on the menu now. I love the way Cherry reacts to the solution. That is a lovely piece, great job Mike. Best Wishes, Brendan.
Lovely job, Mike. Reminds me very much of the decorative pieces that were around in the late 60s/70s, made of ceramics or glass. Yours looks much better!
Looks like a high energy, special edition spirits bottle - single malt whisky or vodka. Definitely one I would buy, drink and then keep the bottle as an ornament. Absolutely beautiful
Thanks once again Mike. These projects really inspire me to have a go and being a beginner I learn so much (not that it always works as well for me yet!!) thanks
Hello Mike. As always, you have taken us on a wonderful journey this time it reminded me of a tropical island washed by an azure sea. So beautiful, thank you. Have a great week.
@ Hello Mike. I have managed to attach that comment to the wrong video. 😊 It was for your fabulous “island extravaganza”. My only excuse is that it has been a loooong week and the brain is not functioning that well! But I did watch this video too, and it’s as lovely as the island! Have a great weekend.
I love this vase vase because you've done two things. You've made look like Ironstone pottery with the ebonising fluid, and the carving makes the texture interesting. With the addition of the silver wax enhancing both dimensions adding the subtle highlight and that satin sheen. So it's not only beautiful to look at but enjoyable to the touch. It reminds me of Studio pottery pieces where the glaze enhances the form and texture. Nice job, Mike. 👍
never ceases to amaze me how different the wood looks when it's finished compared to at the start. never would have guessed that was cherry if i'd only seen the finished piece. lovely work as always Mike. Well done!
Very nice vase and well done on achieving a new skill. I kind of liked the different directions of the carved strokes, it looked more organic and I loved the wavy lines top and bottom too. A beautiful design. I have two very large pieces of cherry slowly drying and I will certainly be looking into the ebonising fluid and the silver paste so thank you for always inspiring ideas and new directions in your content.
What coincidences; the last time I used ebonising fluid (homemade, white vinegar and rusty nails) was on cherry and although I say so myself, I got a lovely result, and just today I moved the bottle and thought it is time to have another go, and now you have prompted me, too! I love this vase; I guess the carving time was quite lengthy, but what a result, with the silver embellishing paste - an inspired choice, and, as always, an inspiration to us all. Well Done, Mike, and thank you.
The vase turned out beautiful! Well done with the carving. Not to overwhelming to take away from the wood grain and shape. Love how the colour turned out using the ebonizing liquid. Would be interesting to see a piece of oak using it. Cheers
I am not a fan of ebony, so i wasnt sure how it would come out.... it is gorgeous!! And the carving is really something different! I am glad you are keeping it.... it was such a "first time" piece, it needs to stay with you!
Thought I would hate the shape; the hand carving saved it in my mind. I loved the cherry wood before the ebonizing, but I’m coming around on it. You always surprise me on how you can “see ahead” of your creation to what it could be. Well done!
Another excellent piece! I was somewhat skeptical about your decision to ebonize this piece, but the end result is amazing. I am, as always, inspired. Thank you..

Really like the wide variety of projects. Very beautiful
Thanks, I try to keep it interesting! 😀
An amazing piece once again, love the contrast in colours but the style of decoration makes it special.
Thank you very much Simon 😀
Beautiful vase. It is always hard to make that first move when trying something new. Great job!
Thanks Vicki it is but it's also so exciting lol 😀
It's scary to go outside your comfort zone, but you did it well. And now you have a new skill.
Thanks Stan, it is but no matter if you succeed or fail you still learn 😀

Very nice vase. You are very good with your art. You take your turnings to a higher level. Thank you for sharing this video. Jerry D. U.S.A.
Thanks so much Jerry, I very much appreciate it 😀
It's a beautiful piece as always. Maybe especially satisfying because you stepped out of your comfort zone. I admire your creative eye! ❤

Thank you so much 😀
Wow, the ebonising is amazing. Got to get me some of that. Nice that the dig sorted out the knot, too. I love it when it all works out.
Thanks Edward, me too 😀
How adventurous Mike. Turned out amazing. Almost has a Fall feel.

Love the ebonizing and silver highlights. Looks marvelous.
