I'm glad you could see the possibilities and we're able to bring out the beauty in this piece of wood. The world needs more turners and less log burners. 🤠
A modified terrarium with some succulents and a small light in the top. 😮😮😮 I always look forward to your next project, always beautiful and entertaining. ❤ PS Can’t wait for the mail to arrive today 🎉🎉🎉.
I think it would make a great vase for dried plants. My grandma used to have vases of dried sunflowers, cattails, and tall grasses. I wish she was still with us so I could show her this. I know she would have loved it. This is now my new favorite of your pieces. :)
FWIW, I winced so often watching this video I lost track of the count. That you turned this challenging piece without it disintegrating--and worse, getting injured--had to have been a "white knuckle" experience for you. Whew! 😊 What's the old saying? "Courage isn't the absence of fear but the resolve to proceed in spite of it." Well done, sir. Cheers.
When I first seen the piece I thought, surely he’s not going to fill that with resin. Then when you started, I had visions of it flying off the lathe. Wow, what a lovely piece of art. I think you could use it for holiday themed centerpiece, changing the scene inside and the flower for the particular holiday.
You aren't a wood-turner. You are an artist working magic on wood pieces! That was a gorgeous video, shot so well and from so many angles. You have really upped your game in the new shop. I know you say it was nerve-wracking, but it was worth the risk!! It's beautiful. ❤
The lamp/pendant lamp possibilities are endless for this design as well. That's where my brain instantly went to as soon as the top was forming. A beautiful piece of wood worked beautifully! I can see a light source either inside or outside.
Beauty from a sad piece of wood but so much to offer, love the grain and how you brought out a really lovely artistic piece. Not sure how big but with the stand on the side a lovely gem stone like sitting in an open cave ie an amythest and crystal cut good thanks loved it all.
I love it! Reminds me of a Christmas bauble that has an indented silvered centre. I would perhaps go a little further with the make to create a lamp with the actual bulb inside it, maybe even adding a little glitter somehow (mixing with the shellac?) to add that extra touch of sparkle. Beautiful piece.
Seeing things! Top down, face full of emotion. Side opening looks a bit like an eagle or bird head. Excellent job of sharing your decision making as you explored what the wood was offering up. Good final design for placing small items inside the heartwood opening. I see all kinds of options for plants, flowers, and/or lights. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What an amaziing result! I could picture this as a hanging (drop) lamp as a focal point in a room with precious other art pieces! You are an awesome craftsman!
...I've always believed that saving firewood to turn into something useful or beautiful was a win, but oh, man...what you did with that piece is a miracle!!! Matt
Talk about an edge of the seat nail biter !!! You took something most people would just toss in the fire and made a really stunning vase with all kinds of character. Well done sir !!!
Found your channel by complete accident and now I am addicted, my late father was a woodsman/Carpenter, sadly I never followed in his footsteps but watching you brings back so many memories and smells of wood in his workshop. Thank you for this, amazing work you do.
Once again Mike you have surpassed yourself absolutely brilliant work and a beautiful piece of art to prove it. Your videos inspire the mere mortals like me who are trying to emulate your works to produce useable pieces for the family and friends, thank you.
This is so beautiful. I can see it with a globe shaped crystal vas inside. Then it could hold the electric candle or flower going through the wood top and into the vase. Whatever you do with it, it's amazing🙂.
I truly enjoy watching you. You have an easy, pleasant manner that overcomes any sense of intimidation regarding a projects difficulty. It helps me feel like it would be something that I could do. I live in Oregon - just a few hundred miles north of where those redwood cones may have come from. Thanks.
In the beginning I could not envisage how this piece would eventually look but yet again you have made a beautiful piece which could be a beautiful center piece adorning either a sideboard or a center piece for a table be it a dining , coffee or corner table. Well done Mike love it
I am simply mesmerized watching you create such beautiful works. I like the care you take as you go along, and that you give us explanations. Blessings from Texas! 🤠🤠🙏🏻🙏🏻
This might be one of my favorite pieces you’ve done. I could not follow your vision at all, but it was fun to watch it evolve. Well done! I hope your wife loved it!
I love this piece. It will make a magnificent lamp base. Even with a steel or brass rod in the centre it will be phenomenal. I loved this episode and it is good to see the bark playing a key role. ❤
I could not invision anything coming Dr om this piece of wood, but once again you came thru and created a beautiful piece of art. We'll done. You are very brave. I think this was more than a little challenging ❤
It was fascinating to watch as you turned an awkward lump of intriguing wood into a thing of beauty. Do appreciate your pointed efforts regarding safety measures.
I like the sound that is made when turning the wood. I am learning so much about wood turning just watching you work your magic. Love the grain … love the roughness of the finish, can’t wait for the final result. What a beautiful finish ❤I know this is one of my favorites. I would use it as a coffee table conference piece. Love it. Your wife could put a candle in it

I’ve just started turning in the last couple weeks. I’m enjoying the creativity in your videos, and your explanations are very helpful in learning about how to think about design in this craft.
Thanks for responding. Mike just bought my first lathe three weeks ago. Cut down a patio elm tree in front of my house dried it and starting to turn some beautiful pieces. You’re definitely a big inspiration happy turning.
A beautiful piece of organic art. A resemblance of an acorn that has been sitting on the woodland floor for a long time. Nature is speaking through your hands. It was calling to you, just waiting for you to pick to up.
This reminds me of my parents' glass Christmas ornaments. Wonderful memories for me! Thank you so much for being brave enough to bring this walnut to life.
I really wasn't sure where you were going with this, but like so many other times, the journey was captivating, and the destination simply incredible. It's so much more than a well turned piece of wood with pretty grain. It's an art piece. I couldn't love this one more.
Amazing piece from a seemingly impossible chunk of wood. Thanks for having the nerve to take this on and share it.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😃
That is absolutely stunning😮 Great to watch you take it from a scarey lump to something that beautiful 😁
