    A little detail I liked was that Gran-Gran's note was written in Inuktitut, the language of the Inuit people. I live in Labrador, which has a large Inuit population, and we see it here all over the place. It's a small detail, but I thought it was a nice touch.

      @@cctomcat321 A food dish can be the same type of dish but made in a different way.
      Both are good, but people have a preference to one or the other.
      That is what this is, it's not about which one is of lesser quality than the other.
      Your analogy does not work here. *You* can prefer the older one and I am sure many do, but that does not lessen the well made product of the different version.

    • @cctomcat321
      @cctomcat321 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @erickchristensen746 I didn't say it wasn't well-made, although mostly subjective, I just said it was like a dish. If it's a "spin on a dish," then sure.
      I think it's funny that people have to pick apart any little nonsensical thing instead of just, idk, engaging. "What do you mean? What'd you think? What'd you like? What didn't you like?"
      But instead it's some ridiculous semantics war as if I don't know what I'm saying. The analogy doesn't have to be perfect. The "dish" is Avatar. The ingredients are there. Some different. The prep is different. And it comes through in the final product. Which is all fine. Some people love eating Kraft cheese sandwiches. You don't need to get lost in the sauce in some weird defense of something anyone is allowed to like or dislike for any reason.

    I love how the put Kyoshi here. I really like what she said to Aang about being a Warriors. Because at first she was kind, shy , even silly with her eaethbending, but after she find out about being the avatar and everything else she became merciless and ruthless. She didn't want to be the avatar but she had to. Kyoshi Is my fave.

    • @rafaelmatos5851
      @rafaelmatos5851 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Not just that, but it makes sense they made Aang to meet her first. Her "tough love" towards Aang allowed him to start to accept his power and role as the Avatar. Roku wouldn't be able to do the same, since it was his own restrain and compassion for his old best friend that prevented him from stopping the war before it could even begin. I bet that, if Kyoshi was in Roku's place, she would have stopped Sozin as soon he started to become a threat, for whatever means necessary.

    • @alfaramadhan3573
      @alfaramadhan3573 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

  • @rafaelmatos5851
    @rafaelmatos5851 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +28

    What amazed me the most with Kyoshi is how they perfectly embodied her. Did you notice how tall she was compared to Aang? And that is a real thing, since Kyoshi was actually a very tall woman, which only complemented her already very intimidating look. And the acting... Amazing! They were able to really show how fiersome and badass she really is. But I am happy they made Aang to meet her before Roku. The thing is this version of Aang is even more insecure about becoming the Avatar, since he is afraid of his own power. Kyoshi was an Avatar that totally embraced that power and was not above to do what needed to be done to preserve the peace and her "tough love" attitude towards Aang is exactly what he needed to start to accept his role as the Avatar. Roku wouldn't be able to do that, since, much like Aang, he also feared to lose control of his powers. After all, it was his own restrain (along his compassion for Sozin) that stopped him from preventing the war before it could even start.

In some countries they’re only available in cable, not to mention the episodes air in time slots that just doesnt fit in their schedule. If this was on local tv the dub is horrendous. The first time i watched Avatar was because of the horrendous dub the second time i watch, i had to search it up on pirated sites because that’s the only way i can watch it. I also collected comics of this because they were on sale in my local bookstore. Unlike me however some people don’t have access to the show, when the animation released it wasn’t the same world we have now. Stop being ignorant.

    So I was originally iffy about them removing Sokka’s sexism when I first heard about it, but after this and subsequent episodes I feel like they replaced it with something much better for Sokka’s character arc. It still primarily focuses on him becoming a man and here you see it, he is insecure and has a lot of responsibilities which he is very unsure of. Replacing an episode of him overcoming sexism (which is not very realistic, you can’t just suddenly respect women overnight if you spent your whole life placing them in a basket separate from you) with him learning to combat imposter syndrome is arguably an improvement for him as a character, where one is a story about prejudice bred out of ignorance, his new storyline is about coming to terms with what his capabilities are and how to best channel them. That, in the long run especially with the roles he assumes in Book 3, make so much more sense.

      I was in the same boat, I do think it still over coming the sexism did make sense for sokka in the original but I think this does get the benefits of hindsight where we start to see. He's starting his journey overcoming imposter syndrome much earlier.
      As an aside I think Sokka's flip on sexism did actually make sense for him, he grew up in a war ravaged village that had been sent back to bare bones survival. All the bad ass bending women were already gone and they were back to hunter gatherer mode, so sokka grew up around women only doing the stereotypical women of the age. But Sokka has an analytical mind and shortly after being beaten he realizes what he thought he might be wrong about women and goes to test his hypothesis where he gets summarily whooped and realizes this view on women was flatly wrong and he gives up that old world veiw for a new one. You're write lots of people might dig in their heals in that situation but it's a credit to his character that he did accept reality. Another notable time we see this happen is at the fire nation footloose party where he starts to realize thanks to and the fire nation isn't just full of evil people

    • @rafaelmatos5851
      @rafaelmatos5851 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      That scroll contained the Southern waterbending style that was unique to the Southern Tribe. I doubt that Pakku would have had it, since he is from the Northern tribe. And Hama was captured when she was defending the tribe from the firebenders. It makes more sense that the scroll was kept safe within the village and guarded by the elders, like Gran Gran, since it was part of their culture.

    As someone that's never seen the animated series, Kyoshi coming in to wreck the fire benders was SO. F*CKING. AWESOME. And I can tell from comments that the flirting with the kyoshi warrior girl (sorry, can't recall her name) and Sokka was different here, but it was understandable and hilarious to me in this context. Remember who she was engaged to?
    MASTER PAKKU aka. The Waterbending Master who helps teach Aang and Katara! What better way to tie that plot point in than having their falling out be over that stigma of training women, and would explain why Pakku might be more tolerant and toned-down here than he was in the animated show.

    One a the few things I have some problem with is that Aang didn't learn any waterbending. He should have been learning waterbending with Katarra. If they would have kept that from the series then it would have been better. Like book 2 is all about earth so are they going to squeeze waterbending in there too. I feel like it's going to be a little busy next season unless they aren't going to follow the book progression. They are already going to have to make the time extend more because Gorden is already much older looking than he was in book 1 and his voice is much deeper also.

Acting on point, set design top tier, sound and music, as well as costumes are so fucking good!! However...the original will always be superior, just because I believe the animation still stands the test of time, as well as the funny moments lend to the emotional moments having more weight, cuz while they're still kids on adventure, they know when they need to get serious and the cartoon leaned into that heavily

    I’m not that fond of how Kyoshi was portrayed in this. People can say that Kyoshi was super aggressive or violent in the series but if you pay attention to her talking she rarely even raised her voice in the original where as here she’s outright yelling at Aang about every shortcoming he’s had. I liked pretty much everything else (except maybe the lore change that Aang needs to go to a specific Avatar’s shrine to talk to them and not they’re all inside him when he needs them) but I didn’t really like Kyoshi.

    • @serenshadow89
      @serenshadow89 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes! Thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that way. I vibed with the other changes they made - and that fight scene was DOPE - a much more poignant Kyoshi possession scene than what we got in the cartoon. But the portrayal/characterization when we meet her is nothing like her personality in ATLA. She was always so incredibly calm in the cartoon - even when facing an enemy, she was always so steady. And as you said, never even raised her voice. This series made her so antagonistic - and I don't vibe with that. She came off as more of a warmonger in this than an isolationist.

    And now we're at first of 2 choices in this show that I didn't like.... Kyoshi's portrayal/characterization. Kyoshi was a strong and imposing character in the cartoon but she was also *calm and steady.* In this series however she comes off as antagonistic and volatile - even slightly erratic. I enjoyed the other choices they made here - like actually getting to talk to her this early on and I don't hate that Kyoshi was the one revealing information about the Avatar State instead of Roku. I liked that she got to take over so she could fight and save her people -- it was a much more poignant possession than what we saw in the cartoon. And I LOVED that fight scene!! OMG, I rewatched that scene like 3 times because it was so dope! But the moments leading up to it, when we meet her and she's just nothing like her personality in the cartoon.. I did not like it. She comes off as a warmonger or a conqueror instead of the isolationist she was. This is one reason why I would give the show a 8 or 9 out of 10 instead of a perfect 10.

The chemistry between Suki and Sokka was great, the visuals on Kyoshi and her fighting choreography were badass same for the choreography of the Kyoshi warriors and Iroh brings the desperately needed light- heartedness and wholesomeness that had been missing so far. But the change that Aang is only able to contact his past lives when being at their shrines is mad stupid considering how many Avatars came before him the past 10.000 years and that most of them definitely don't have shrines anymore so .. yeah no connection to the majority of his past lives then I guess😅. Speaking of Aang as a father and all that...
    One thing I will never understand is why Aang did not _create_ more airbenders whom he could have guided into become a new generation of Air Nomads. He did not necessarily have to procreate to create more.
    What do I mean? I mean that the Lion Turtle imparted to him the knowledge of how to bend another's energy. With that knowledge, he took away Fire Lord Ozai's firebending. It stands to reason, then, that he had the potential to give a bending ability to another. It also stands to reason that it's far easier to bend another's energy if they willingly submit to it instead of fight against it as Ozai did.
    In the Original Series, there were those who already took up residence in the Northern Air Temple and were air gliding. If they willingly submitted to it, he could have given them air bending and taught them the ways of the Air Nomads.
    Even better, he eventually was made aware of those Avatar groupies who became Air Nomad larpers who had adopted all of that culture with the exception of airbending. They would have been perfect candidates, and would likely have been willing subjects.
    With either one or both groups, BOOM, a brand new generation of Air Nomads created from scratch. Basically, what happens later in LOK could have happened much earlier, but by Aang's active intervention and guidance.

      @@wowjackwow1 We don't don't know that he couldn't, only that he didn't. The Lion Turtle taught him energy bending, which he then used to take a bending ability away from Ozai. If he can take a bending ability away from someone, like I said in my original comment, it _stands to reason_ that he could in like manner give a bending ability to someone.
      And again, as I pointed out, it might even be easier to give or take away a bending ability if the one whose energy is being bent is a willing subject, unlike Ozai, who fought against it. I would guess the Northern Air Temple occupants and the Avatar Nomad Groupies would be willing subjects whose energies could be bent relatively easily to impart the ability.

    Honestly they clearly changed Suki, but I like how since Kiyoshi Island is basically closed itself off from the world and Suki has never really talked to anyone outside the Island, she's awkward with Sokka and unintentionally "emasculates" him. But a small shame no sexist Sokka. Not even a little. Suki's actress looks very pretty tho. With AND without the makeup! But 1 big thing with the Live Action is how they made all the past Avatars USELESS. Even Roku. They also made Kiyoshi unnecessarily mean. Like she's SCARY and possibly blunt, but not mean for no reason.
