The budget was said to be 15 M per episode. It definitely shows. I am using ALL of my willpower to NOT binge watch all 8 episodes. Many are criticizing that they changed too much. People need to remember that it's an adaptation of the cartoon. I think this Halloween will be ALL Avatar costumes.....lol. Looking forward to your reaction to the rest of the episodes. I really hope you also react to the other series, Reacher, The Brothers Sun and Blue Eye Samurai. ALL excellent shows!!!
One thing i love about the show is the attention to detail even with the changes. Like the writers clearly know the source material and history of the show's world and i adore it
you can tell the people working on this actually love the story and have respect for the characters and they pay attention to details. so glad they actually have a budget to bring bending to life
Having to witness the genocide of the air nation was so heartbreaking 💔. I cried the whole time 😅. But I think it was such an excellent way to add to the story.
God I love you guys and your enthusiasm! I binged the whole series you guys had with the original and it was so awesome I still can't bring myself to watch the finale myself all the way through because I know it would be all over😔 But I loved watching this can't wait for episode 2!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👌👌👌👌👌
I will say in Book 1 there were 20 episodes each 23 min long. Includes the 46 sec intro. comes to 444 min and 36 sec. the run time for this series is about 430 min. There is about 15 min of the cartoon run time that is just Intro. So both of these are about the same amount of time. The live action condenses. However it also ADDS a lot.
I swear people have no concept of how wildly different the method of media used to tell the story: live action of eight 40+min episodes that's released as a whole VS a cartoon of 20 episodes of 20+ mins each released weekly. Two very different methods that require unique methods of execution. Also people forget how exposition heavy the cartoon actually was and how the cartoon hinted and implied a lot of heavy concepts for a kids show, but couldn't actually show or explain them in the detail required to flesh them out because it was precisely made for a kids network television company. The show is streamlining the themes, events while explicitly delving into the ideas that the cartoon only elaborated on in vague and unexplicot ways. Again because it was made for 16 and younger kids, not 12 year old to older people which this show is rated for. TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT MEDIUMS. The actor who plays Iroh had the right idea when he said that it is not a copy, nor a remake, but a REMIX because he understood the medium of the story (form of media used) is inherent to its method of portrayal. Again people wildly overestimate the cartoons handling of the more mature concepts - the fact they were even alluded to or just plainly part of the narrative was enough to warrant the fact it effectively delves into those things because ot was for kids explicitly and how it had to exposition dump in different ways because it was for children. The nostalgia simping and hindsight 20/20 musings of the show that everyone has had for 20+ years is blinding everyone to the extremely creative adaptation. It is not as good as the cartoon, but it isn't wholly trash TV. If we, as geeks and nerds, can mostly agree that the Revenge of the Sith is a masterpiece despite its obvious flaws in dialogue and story telling, then we can at least try to appreciate the live action adaptation of our beloved ATLA. The cast and crew obviously have love for the original work. That being said, it could have been another Witcher fiasco. The showrunners had no love fpr the source material. The makers of NATLA simply do not have that same contempt for their own source material.
I've finished watching this and mostly I was crying during nostalgic events (which were a lot to be honest) and I can't wait to see your reaction to fan favorite scenes!
I am loving this so much. Watched the first 2 and cried in both of them. This hits me in the feels😢❤ more darkness with seeing what happend to the airbenders😭😭 It looks great! When Aang smiles big he is so cute🥰 like in the cartoon. I have now seen the whole season and I love it. I have cried many times❤ I love it for what it is and they did really good.
Admittingly, seeing what actually happened to Monk Gyatso and seeing Aang's reaction to his death made me a bit emotional and I actually cried. Tell myself "NOT AGAIN!" Also... was the only one who got serious Man of Steel vibes when Gyatso told Aang that he was the Avatar?
I am happy to see this! I was really feeling sad and trepidation because of hearing changes were made to story but so far after watching your review I am going to say this is a winner. I see this as an adaptation. Basically if it can capture the spirit of the show then that’s a success of a kind. So far at least in episode one the spirit does seem to be there. Hopefully it states good and if it becomes great, hallelujah. 🎉 I hope they bring back the fun in shows! So far this has that.
They came out if the gate with brutal murder and genocide, i did NOT expect it, but the emotional weight it gives everything is phenomenal. I can't wait to watch you enjoy the rest of the season. Those kids really grow in to their roles beautifully. If the effects look weird to you, change your tv settings, it was like and day on our tv when i changed them. Also, there are a ton of easter eggs in the subtitles, referrals to the animated series on things that didn't make the cut to the live series. It's fantastic, but a blink and you'll miss it. It happens in a few of the episodes. ❤
They should've made a live-action about episodes of the war that weren't showed in the animation, like one episode extended about the Fire Nation's attack, another about Aang and Cuzon before the war, one about adventures of Sokka's father in the war - "Tales of the Hundred Years' War".
Its so refreshing to hear other people enjoying it. But then, i find you have always been very reasonable and capable of understanding that adaptations and reimaginings are NOT one to one deliveries and even where weak, there is still places to grow.
i dont care what others say, i really enjoyed the whole thing, the good the bad and the confusion it was so fun and it felt like watching atla for the first time all over again❤ i was happy with the series and cant wait for season 2 !!
People that have any major complaints about this series don’t know what it took to watch the show, then suffer through the movie just to get here. I have only MINOR nitpicks but I’m sure they’ll be adjusted in the next season. I’m only 4 episodes in and it keeps getting better. I’m absolutely blown away
Wow, I am a big fan of the original animated series, and I loved the Netflix adaptation. I've watched it already few times, and it's amazing! I fell in love with this beautiful series. Fantastic live-action adaptation! I can't wait for the next season! Love the action, adventure, drama, the emotional twist, it brought me to tears, the fantasy, and comedy-all in one! Amazing cinematography, amazing special effects, those animals, spirit animals just amazing, and their powers. The music is so wonderful, the visuals look great and the backgrounds look fantastic! I love their costumes, which are very detailed, elaborate, and very impressive! It definitely paid homage to the original. They're all amazing! Gordon is a brilliant, fantastic actor for his young age, and he is so cute; he has a million-dollar smile too. Dallas is a versatile actor, he's amazing actor. Kiawentiio and Ian are amazing too. Paul, and Daniel are very good too. I love the casting, I love the characters, they all did a great job. Congratulations! This is the best live-action adaptation! ♥️
Glad to see you guys are enjoying this show, at least the first episode for now. I enjoyed it myself, up until about the 3rd or 4th episode. Not gonna spoil anything, but as a fan of the original series, there were moments that made it harder for me to watch. You might understand what I’m saying, especially Answer, as it goes on. But maybe that’s just my opinion.
I can agree that this show had more love put into it than the movie. That being said, I find it somewhat ironic that that was being specifically pointed out by Oak. I think all of us know by now that the creators of Avatar left the series due to creative differences, and while they have yet to comment on what those differences were, there's strong evidence that they left the show because it's too similar to the original. I think there's been unconfirmed reports of that being the case, but the idea is also supported by direct statements from the creators abour their creative and storytelling process, and that they never want to do the same thing twice. So while it's not confirmed, I personally think that they would have made far more changes to the original than the final result of this show ended up doing. Obviously the general concept would be the same, but much of the details would be different. So I'm very curious to see what they would have done. Of course I don't now want them to make another live action show in line with their own vision for it, as that would be a bit much, but it's a question I will always wonder about. That said, I would want them to make a live action Korra (with or without Netflix, they can do whatever they want as it is their property), to see what changes they would make to that and how they would better develop and expand upon the stories, characters, villain, and themes of each season, as well as more accurately depict the politics of the show's villains as they occasionally fumbled the bag there with the original. But I would mainly love for them to have the chance to tell that story again with hindsight, and without having to worry about when it will end. Though I'm also very interested in the new shows and original movies that Avatar Studios is to bring to us in the future.
I have already seen some reactions of other channels, but was especially curious for your reactions. Having watched the whole season, I don’t get the hate… I expected, and love some changes and additions they make, providing more background or intergrating multiple plotlines into one. Infortunately, I also think they butchered a few storylines and by combining some plotlines and intergrating some things from season 2, making it confusing or loose it’s meaning or message. Overall, I like it and I’m very curious for a season 2!
You knw guys when you see a name starting with "double a" it's hard to decide how to pronpunce it - is it like Aaron or like aardvark - unless you have source material THAT TELLS YOU EXACTLY HOW TO PEONOUNCE IT.
Can't wait for the reaction to the next episode. This one certain segment was freaking amazing and I wish we could have more of that, maybe a Spinoff? There are a handful and I do really mean a handful, as in MAYBE 5 things that just ain't it, but that still means that this show is a 90-95% and to be honest, when you consider just how big the Animated show is and how beloved it is, doing a 90-95% life action version of it still means that this is leagues above many shows.
I really enjoyed the first episode, especially since they showed how brutal the fire nation siege was. Where it landed weakly was me not quite feeling the sorrow from Aang at the air nation temple. Otherwise strong start. Casting was all really well done so far; Aang’s actor just needs some time to refine his abilities.
I think my biggest issue with the series film-wise was the lighting. Scenes in the sunlight were fine, but scenes at night or in dark areas were too dark even at the highest screen brightness.
I really like how they give more backstory in certain episodes but wish they didn’t make changes to things that didn’t need to be changed. Wish it was more like hbo the last of us which to me is one of the best adaptions
exactly! it never needed to be an exact one to one but when you change so much that it feels like youre viewing an almost original story in the cosplay of the original show, it's weird
I've been waiting for this reaction. I know that there will always be haters but I really did enjoy and loved this new version of Avatar. It's different cause I'm so used to watching the cartoon. Can't wait for season 2 ❤❤
I agree Zuko is my favorite as well. And I am concerned on how or if they are still going to make the love story between Katara and Aang because a lot of things are different and sped through each episode and they combined episodes in one.
unfortunately, i think the only thing this show has going for it are the visuals. they did the visuals to make it look close to the cartoon. they matched the color pallets really well, and not just in the character costume but also in the sets and scenery. this is unfortunately the only positive I see in this show. i'm not a fan of the directing and the changes they made.
I personally loved this so much for a live action version a lot better than the live movie i mean you can't beat the og cartoon aswell but this was very impressive what they did and i stand by what i say since i watched it all in one day i hope to see my favourite character in season two 🤞
Current generation would be laughing at seeing three grown men hyping over a fantasy drama. If only they knew us watching it on nickelodeon every week a decade and half ago. ❤
At first I referred to that previous live action thing as The Movie That Shan't Be Named - but I quickly changed to simply saying "There is no Movie in Ba Sing Se." When they didn't even care enough to get the names right, well, to me, that says it all. That and I will never be able to forget half a dozen men "dancing" for a few minutes and when they end, a small rock floats up and moves at a walking pace towards a target .... why? If that was all an airbender could do then there would be no point to it at all.
I am not familiar with the animated series. So this is my first time entering the world, though I did see the live action once and it was indeed awful. But as far as my true introduction into the franchise - I absolutely loved it. And, for me each episode got better and better. I always expect a pilot episode to be an exposition dump - once you get that out of the way the series can breathe but with the lore it’s kind of necessary. Yes, some do it better than others but u had no issues with it in this first episode. By the end of the last episode I wanted more and more.
I'm glad y'all seemed to enjoy the episode. Personally, I wasn't a fan of this season and I'm unsure if I'll continue watching (if indeed it gets renewed). I really liked the first and sixth episodes, but the rest just wasn't it for me. Glad that there are those who are enjoying it though!
Binged it over the last 2 days. Mostly I liked it. I've got a few complaints/critiques but overall it's a pretty good adaptation. I do understand why they changed most of what was changed. A lot of side plots had to be streamlined/combined. The cast is doing a fantastic job and the effects for the most part have been pretty good.
Have an open mind when yall get after Episode 3, things will get weird but as a die hard fan of avatar i loved it, changes have to happen, some fit in some didnt but overall its pretty awesome
I can't wait until season 2 so I can watch people's reviews on this show without having to mention the movie on how disappointed everyone was with it lol
Im gonna watch your guys reactions to this because i think it'll be more bearable, the actual series i stopped after 3 episodes, it's just too poor written
I really, genuinely loved this series. The first season is of course the weakest of the cartoon, and I thought they did a pretty darn good job of adapting into this season! Please get the word out. I'm getting so annoyed at people going 'omg it was terrible'. I cried HAPPY TEARS so much through this.

I feel so bad for you guys😑 you had to wait sooooo long🤣 BRO I WAITED FOR A WHOLE DECADEEEEE! EMOTIONAL DAMAGE BRO

I think they liked the story. I don’t think they understood the story.
@@FateXO hush hater
people were being so negative but i enjoyed this series so much! can’t wait for y’all’s reactions
I love this show, its different but keep the spirit
Nice reaction! I'm very glad you like it.
I absolutely love the series. Binged it in two days because I couldn't wait.
Having to witness the genocide of the air nation was so heartbreaking 💔. I cried the whole time 😅. But I think it was such an excellent way to add to the story.
OMG you guys teased me so hard. I was waiting to see this since thursday.
God I love you guys and your enthusiasm! I binged the whole series you guys had with the original and it was so awesome I still can't bring myself to watch the finale myself all the way through because I know it would be all over😔 But I loved watching this can't wait for episode 2!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👌👌👌👌👌
ep 1 and 6 were done in collaboration with the OG program creators so its definitely a really good episode, this one.
Gordon Cormier who plays Aang, is half Filipino and half Canadian,,,,proud to be Pinoy.🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Been waiting on y'all to do this show. I haven't seen the animated one, but after finishing the live action, I'm seriously thinking about it now.
Don’t care what anyone says it may not be all accurate to the cartoon but I still love it, I hope we get a season 2
I was really, reaaaaally sceptical about this series but my god, did they NAIL it!!
Funny that the Fire Nation wants to kill the Avatar, yet the Avatar has unlimited Respawns 😂
I love all the casts!!!!! Idc what people say, they're the best ❤
No matter what anyone says, the artwork is perfect! it all looks so much like the original ;)
I am loving this so much. Watched the first 2 and cried in both of them. This hits me in the feels😢❤ more darkness with seeing what happend to the airbenders😭😭
It looks great! When Aang smiles big he is so cute🥰 like in the cartoon.
I have now seen the whole season and I love it. I have cried many times❤ I love it for what it is and they did really good.
I forgot that Zuko was expecting to look for a 112 yr old warrior
Admittingly, seeing what actually happened to Monk Gyatso and seeing Aang's reaction to his death made me a bit emotional and I actually cried. Tell myself "NOT AGAIN!"
Also... was the only one who got serious Man of Steel vibes when Gyatso told Aang that he was the Avatar?
I can’t wait for you guys to see the rest!! You’re way more positive and Ik you’re going to LOVE it!!! 😊
such an awesome job done in this, and what I really love about the story overall, is absolutely everyone can identify with each and every character.
I hope they bring back the fun in shows! So far this has that.
the show was joyless, disappointing and unnecessary
They came out if the gate with brutal murder and genocide, i did NOT expect it, but the emotional weight it gives everything is phenomenal. I can't wait to watch you enjoy the rest of the season. Those kids really grow in to their roles beautifully.
If the effects look weird to you, change your tv settings, it was like and day on our tv when i changed them.
Also, there are a ton of easter eggs in the subtitles, referrals to the animated series on things that didn't make the cut to the live series. It's fantastic, but a blink and you'll miss it. It happens in a few of the episodes. ❤
They should've made a live-action about episodes of the war that weren't showed in the animation, like one episode extended about the Fire Nation's attack, another about Aang and Cuzon before the war, one about adventures of Sokka's father in the war - "Tales of the Hundred Years' War".
that actually wouldve been hella cool!!
Yes!! Like the one in the introduction!
Its so refreshing to hear other people enjoying it. But then, i find you have always been very reasonable and capable of understanding that adaptations and reimaginings are NOT one to one deliveries and even where weak, there is still places to grow.
hunny, wake up. the boys just uploaded the reaction for atla
i dont care what others say, i really enjoyed the whole thing, the good the bad and the confusion it was so fun and it felt like watching atla for the first time all over again❤ i was happy with the series and cant wait for season 2 !!
Same here. I see why the original creators made the choice to leave. This show is sloppy, imo. 4/10 :/
"I'm guessing this is in the past..."
Me: Bruh...
I clicked so fast!! I watched the first episode last night and it was AMAZING!!😍
I saw another reaction channel and they said zuko looked like the live action ninja turtle and goro 😂
It is not perfect but it’s perfectly fun and enjoyable
I was hoping the answer and the oak would rock the arrows on their head. Missed opportunity guys.😂😂
The show was everything I needed it to be , i need all the episodes like nowwwwww. We dont claim that movie lol
After sokka claimed that some couldn't stay at their post, you get a pan of the children....how hard was it to have on say "I had to pee!"
Jasper would've been so good in this one.
I've been waiting for this reaction. I know that there will always be haters but I really did enjoy and loved this new version of Avatar. It's different cause I'm so used to watching the cartoon. Can't wait for season 2 ❤❤
They rush plot points and skip over things. For example. We don't see haru and his father prisoner on the fire nation ship this season.
I agree Zuko is my favorite as well. And I am concerned on how or if they are still going to make the love story between Katara and Aang because a lot of things are different and sped through each episode and they combined episodes in one.
We saw it all oak. Dont worry we are here
I know that this is unrelatable but I can't wait till your The Ones Who Live Episode 1 reaction
Sakka Sokka was pitch perfect
unfortunately, i think the only thing this show has going for it are the visuals. they did the visuals to make it look close to the cartoon. they matched the color pallets really well, and not just in the character costume but also in the sets and scenery. this is unfortunately the only positive I see in this show. i'm not a fan of the directing and the changes they made.
Doing the Potterverse in a few weeks… not having to wait a decade for a good Avatar live action…. So spoiled !!! 😂
The writing/acting is a bit wonky at times, but surprisingly I found myself bingeing it in a day. I enjoyed it, another season would be nice.
Off topic but i cant wait for you guys to react to ninja kamui if u guys ever react
Idk man I didn't like it at first but it actually was quite good as I got in the other episodes
a bit too rushed tbh but live action so understandable, the problem is they couldn't keep the integrity of the characters to some extent
This is therpy, greetings from Mexico
I have been enjoying the Netflix version. Special effect are awesome. Kid actors are very hit or miss.
Have an open mind when yall get after Episode 3, things will get weird but as a die hard fan of avatar i loved it, changes have to happen, some fit in some didnt but overall its pretty awesome
I'm so excited for this!
If you someday need a cuteness overload I suggest "BABE"
Only a brave pig can melt everyone's heart.
I can't wait until season 2 so I can watch people's reviews on this show without having to mention the movie on how disappointed everyone was with it lol
Sorry Oak but that Shyamalan take is willld. He straight up murdered the source material, there's no defense for any choices made in that movie
fire nation probably used to smelling burnt skin lol
Im gonna watch your guys reactions to this because i think it'll be more bearable, the actual series i stopped after 3 episodes, it's just too poor written
I really, genuinely loved this series. The first season is of course the weakest of the cartoon, and I thought they did a pretty darn good job of adapting into this season! Please get the word out. I'm getting so annoyed at people going 'omg it was terrible'. I cried HAPPY TEARS so much through this.
