  • In this video we compare the terminal ballistics of 4 different metal types against 5.56 and 30-06. We use FMJ and specialty threat projectiles to compare. These tests are for Entertainment in material science.

I'm a little surprised that the .30-06 M2 AP made it through 1/2" of AR500.

I've read that 7075 aluminum tends to be more brittle than other types. That may have been the point of failure.
Spring steel would be an interesting test, as the various grades have a decent combination of hardness and ductility.
Other test ideas, if you're interested:
-Laminate several thin steel plates of varying hardness/ductility.
-UHMWPE on the front of steel as the frag coating.
-UHMWPE on the front and back of ceramic (instead of just a backer).
-Thin layers of metal sandwiching a ceramic plate wrapped in UHMWPE.
-Layer of ballistic rubber between steel plates, then coat the whole thing in bed liner.

I’m always interested in trying new builds. Some of those examples are similar to a few builds I have in mind. I’m finishing up a lightweight build and then I can take a better look at these.

Great video, brother. I always enjoy projectile comparisons on different metals. 👏 👏 👏

Great video , with some interesting results , but You'll have too stop aiming at bungee straps or it could get expensive . Shoot Straight Stay Safe & Stay Well.

Hello I really would like to see how does AR500 differs to standar Hardened steel Brinell 500 or even 550 or 600 if somehow is possible to get this last two. Hardened steel brinell is used on most MRAPS now a days, from Cobra 2, Hunter Tr-12, roshel senator and many other "cheap" commercial APCs/MRAPs outthere are using this material.
I am guessing you can find one provider easier, but I found the provider for the Hunter Tr-12 so I could share that one so you could test their product.

This probably depends on what projectile you are trying to stop. I’m always open to try new multi material experiments.
