Metals are the substances that loose atoms to form cation. So, Metals are the elements with low ionisation energy, High electron affinity, High atomic size and low electronegativity. ( For clarification; Ionisation energy- is the energy required to remove electrons from outermost shells of atoms. Electron affinity- Is the energy liberated or released when an electron is added to atom) So... As metals are cations they remove electrons that means they give out their extra electron, So at this time they require less energy as their valance or last shell electron is very far from nucleus. -Hope you understood

Mam, why have you splitted ethyl substituent into two carbon atoms? can't we use ethyl substituent without dividing it into two carbon atoms?
It is because the C2H5 is included in the parent chain . Thus it is no longer ethyl substituent but two individual carbon atoms .
