I come from the commercial game industry (arcade games, slot machines and such) and we used to use Lexan for any exterior button or gaming stick that would be subjected to a high degree of force or impact. It's a VERY strong poly-resin.

Used to be a plant machinery maintenance engineer. Lexan is used in a lot of excavators, forklifts etc as windshields

It’s neat seeing all these lexan and ultem knives. I work in a chemical plant/refinery that makes petrochemicals all the way to structured products and we hold the patent for lexan and ultem. So any product with those names, the polymers were made from my company. Lexan and ultem are both high temp high strength polymers. Ultem is extremely high temp it’s extruded at around 700 F degrees to even by pliable. Lexans extrusion temps are closer to 500 F. Both are definitely more rigid than G10. Lexan like you said is used in bullet proof glass and transportation windows like airplanes it’s not as hard as ultem but those properties allow it be be better suited for bullet proof glass to basically envelope the projectile. Ultem is extremely high strength and can withstand a crazy amount of force. Both are chemical resistant and ultem is naturally scratch resistant. Lexan can be very scratch resistant if it’s coated like lexan margard mr10.

The Sendy is a perfect one for Vicky. She has been getting splinters in her hands lately for some reason, so it's perfect. These Lexan scales are a welcome option for the ultem that is so popular these days. Still not my style, but way cooler looking.

I am 100% going to have to buy one of the drop point sendy’s. It reminds me a lot of my Civivi Lumi, but with a sturdier tip and two extra tools.
Having a toothpick and tweezers is one of my favorite things about Swiss Army knives and one of the things I miss most when I’m not carrying one.

Beez! Dude! Love that new Sendy, it's got that classic pocket knife look while also being modern and brand new, I also love the bells and whistles! Those Lexan scales are fire, I don't know anything about Lexan other than it looks really cool, more knives with different lock types need to have a Lexan scales version! Thanks for sharing bro!

The Sendy was originally going to be named the Cedar, according to Ben, that name had already been taken, the handle scales texture is supposed to replicate the texture of cedar shingles. I like this knife design. A few reviews are already out there with cut tests and the knife has done really well. I always like your reviews Beez, you do a great job with the closeups and demonstrations of operation. Thanks

I have always liked the Swiss army knives for having tweezers. But I always hated to carry one. I had a mini Swiss army knife for along time that I kept in my pocket and carried a normal pocket knife with a pocket clip to use as a knife. I work in metal stamping and I get alot of splinters. The Sendy is the knife I've been looking for.

I know what I'd do with the lexan scale elementum...
I'd take it apart, and paint the frame one color on the outside surface, and a different color on the inside surface. Mine would be yellow showing out and black or red inside.

Lean has been used on RC car bodies since the 80s. It's super impact resistant and a doesn't yellow. I'm so surprised that it's never been used on knife scales till now.

Sometimes I do miss a notification but it’s all good as I’m taking care of Mom when I do ❤️💜
Saw the Sendy in the email from Civivi and I like it.
It seems like the “inline” or “hidden” flipper may be the wave of 2024🤘🏻 The Jetstream, Gavel and a couple of others I’m not bringing to mind have dropped recently with this type. (Not on the video but I LOVE that Gavel!!!)
I am not sure about the different clear scales. I will get a knife with them at some point but not the highest priority 🤘🏻
    Thanks Beez

The lexan elementum is dope af. I just worry about yellowing. Anyone with experience with lexan know about its UV resistance? I know it’s used for aircraft windows so surely it must be decently resistant to yellowing

    • @norsefalconer
      @norsefalconer 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

We have a green house with lexan panels. It's been in direct sunlight and all manner of weather conditions, for 5~6 years, no yellowing, no breakage, and they seem to have not gotten brittle at all. The surfaces are pretty thin too, made like corrugated cardboard.
Given a knife spends most of its time out of the sun, I'd bet it'd be decades before any yellowing occured, if it occured at all. Of course, that's just my guess based on the above experience.
I suppose the liners could reflect light and advance UV aging in those areas, and I bet it would still take an incredibly long time. But, again, that's just conjecture on my part.

"Very interesting"(say that with German accent) To introduce lexan on the elementum it tells me that Civivi is targeting a new scale to mostly new customers to knife buying, not guys/gals that have been buying knives for years, but reviving the basic elementum with flipper and D2 steel may attract some of older collectors to buy it just for the scales, but don't think it will sway too many to get another elementum. Thanks for showing us one new knife and one old design with new clothes.

What ever happened to the Civivi Cedar that Peterson designed?
Lexan scales are cool. It was a thing for pilots and aircrew during WW2 to take pieces of plexiglas from downed airplanes and make 'sweetheart' grips out of the plexi, putting a picture of a loved one under the grip so they could have it close.

Buy a different knife if you want something functional and useful.
The Civivi Sendy looks like an amazing knife, but it's not. This is a knife that needs constant babysitting. The Toothpick doesnt like to stay and tries to escape at the most inconvenient times. I've lost it 3 times, and this last time it seems to be gone for good. The tweezers are much to pointy they have zero purchase. In order to make them usable, I had to grind them down till they had a larger flat surface. I used sandpaper because i didn't have access to a grinding tool. The knife while very pretty, doesnt like to do its job of cutting. It tends to get hung up at the base and seems to dull quickly. When I say you have to babysit this knife, I'm not joking. This is supposed to be a reliable tool which holds 2 other tools. That's its purpose. When i told civivi about these issues, this was their reply...["The tweezers is placed on the presentation side scale, and the toothpick is placed on the lock side scales. If these positions are reversed, it may result in the toothpick being more prone to slipping out.
The edge retention and sharpness is influenced by various factors, such as steel composition, blade geometry, thickness, hardness, and usage patterns.
If there are any concerns or questions about your blade, we kindly suggest you send the knife to our USA after-sales center, we will check the blade. ]
Why? If this issue was already known, why did this tool not come with instructions? Why inform me now? Why is it my job to pay them to look at something they know is a problem? Why do I need to babysit a tool? If I find another issue, are they gonna gaslight me again with instructions they didnt provide?
I repeat, Buy a different knife if you want something functional and useful.

Being ever so slightly picky, acrylic (poly(methyl methacrylate)) is sold under the brand names Plexiglas, Lucite, and Perspex. Lexan is a brand name of polycarbonate, which is somewhat stronger than acrylic.

That "spey point" in one of the ugliest blade shapes I've seen. Like the osborne 940s ugly sibling

The Sendy looks like the most boring knife I’ve ever seen. The tweezer and pick are the only interesting thing about it.
Can you dye Lexan and get a translucent color?
