Cab ride Divača - Pula (Istrian railway, Slovenia, Croatia) train driver's view in 4K

- In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train driver's view on the Istrian railway between Divača in Slovenia and Puna in Croatia in 4K/60 frames per second.
The Istrian railways include seven lines, of which only three are still in operation today. One of them is Pula - Divača.
The idea to build a railway to Pula surged shortly after the Southern Railway connected Vienna, the Austrian capital, with Trieste, Austria's largest port at the time, in 1857.
The first train arrived in Pula on 18 August 1876 (on the birthday of Emperor Franz Joseph), followed by the official arrival of the first passenger train on 20 September of the same year.
Even the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph proudly rode the line to Pula on several occasions. The final stop, Pula was the imperial station, but there was another imperial station on the line, Vodnjan. Franz Jozef was very fond of carriage rides, so he enjoyed such a ride from Vodnjan railway station to Fažana, a few kilometres away, from where he took a boat to Brijuni, which was also his favourite destination.
There has been no freight traffic on this railway since 2013, with very, very few exceptions. On the Croatian side, seven pairs of single-car trains run during the week, and about half that number at weekends. On 6 March 2023, a new train HŽPP CLASS 7023 (KONČAR) DMU entered revenue service.
The switches on this track are mechanical, there's a transport operator at each station.
Maximum running speed: 90 kilometres per hour

Istria is a mass tourist destination. A car destination. We are talking now about sustainable traffic. We see this rail in bad condition. There is almost no trains. Not even from Zagreb, their capital. Because small countries hate each other and don't cooperate. We should see here from may to the end of september every morning a train full of tourists from Munich, The second from Prague Linz, the third from Bratislava, Vienna, and fourth from Budapest. At the proper stations buses will take the to Umag, Novigrad, Poreč and Rovinj. What we see? Nothing. Bushes and wilderness. We are talking about limiting car traffic but not doing anything for other options of travel. We need a train first and than many will see how easy tourists can come to the sea without waiting on the highways.
Probably it could start with some night trains (perhaps first idea would be branching direct cars from existing Nightjet EN 237 operating from Stuttgart/Munich to Rijeka) and over time expanding with other routes. On Croatian side some studies have been ordered to improve the line plus it has been nominated to Comprehensive status in TEN-T corridor network, while on Slovenian side it will become better when 2TDK is built and line from Divača to Prešnica gets off-loaded (today it's full of cargo traffic to Koper port like pomegranate is of pips) and there will be more space for passenger trains. With these improvements and travel time Divača-Pula under 2 hours (probably even 1,5 hours would be possible), it can become a nice feeder service to international trains between Venice/Trieste and Ljubljana/Vienna.
Čisto nov posnetek in to v HD in po lepem vremenu, po meni na eni najlepših tras na Svetu!

@dlevoy It is beautiful. I like the Istrian landscape.

@mikezard1311 Thanks, will do!
Filmato molto interessante e ben fatto, complimenti!
@paolopetronio8260 Grazie! Thank you for all that valuable information about this line. Very interesting reading.

Oh, my, what a wonderful ride that is! Really nice scenery, and I am getting to see a lot more of Slovenia, thank you!! As an electrical engineer, I do like to see that power line overhead, but ... the scenery is so much better when it's not there ... drat!! Again, your video quality is so very, very good ... nice for us arm-chair lookers to ride along ... thanks for sharing! [Greetings from Tucson]
@AZqyc Thank you for your support. It enables me to invest more in my equipment and to improve the quality of the videos. I am glad to hear that I have many passengers from all over the world. Greetings to Tuscon from Slovenia.
@montgomeryscott1656 😊
Beautiful ride along, last time I was in Croatia was in 2017 and did make to Pula to see the ancient Ampitheater of Puli which was amazing place to see firsthand but we never got near Slovenia which this route exposed me to during this train ride. Honestly some of the best food and pizza we ate was in Croatia even better than on the otherside of the Adriatic but I won't name the country.
@richardlong3745
Great. I am happy to hear that. I like Pula and the area around it, Istrian peninsula is a very popular holiday destination.
IYes, it's a beautiful city and region and it's overflowing in ancient site to explore. Y'all are very fortune to have this historic linage as the foundation for your modern culture and lifestyle.@@RailRelaxation
@richardlong3745 it is true. There are lots of ancient, roman towns around here and quite a few well preserved medieval towns in Slovenia. And the amazing thing is, for me as a Brazilian, that everything is so close. You need a couple of hours to get from the high peaks of the Alps to the Mediterranean coast.

@rikardlalic7275 You’re welcome 😊
Amazing railway, especially with the mechanical signals! Good to see they are still investing money into rails.
@lorirocks777 Yes, not a lot of lines like this around and just this spring the Croatian Railways put a brand new DMU to run on the Croatian side of the line!
Nice video, terima kasih.

SUPER LIKE BRO IS AWESOME :P
@drksoft3882 I'm glad you like it.
eine wunderschöne Strecke. Man sieht wirklich die Baufortschritte der Slowenen Richtung Koper, ich werde es also noch erleben (was bei manchen österreichischen Projekten nicht so sicher ist).
@wolfgangfuchs1243 We are all eagerly waiting to see the new line to Koper finished....
It may seem odd that when traveling on a line that traverses probably the most touristic part of Croatia you see the Adriatic Sea only for last 10 seconds in Pula. Reasons being some quirky geography with deep inland valley/bay of Limski kanal (often incorrectly called a fjord though it did pretend to be one in some movies about Vikings) and a deep valley of River Mirna in the north, but main reason was strategic as railway line was built to supply a new naval base in Pula which quickly became main naval base of KuK monarchy. With line being built inland it was safe from bombardment from the sea, traversing the peninsula almost equidistant from both coasts. There was a branch line to Rovinj (branching from 1:56:51 Kanfanar station) - opened in 1876 and closed in 1966 next to Limski kanal (soon to be rebuilt as a bicycle path with some spectacular views) and an independent narrow-gauge line Parenzana - opened in 1902 and closed in 1935 between Poreč (Parenzo) and Trieste in north-west corner of Istria which is now fully accessible as bicycle path.
@ZvonimirZelenika Thank you for that very interesting explanation.
Nice video
@adamblunsdon7784 Thanks.
Good stuff. Many of the platforms in this part of the world seem to be completely unlit. Must be weird experience using them at night!
@davidpanton3192 There are not many trains that pass on that line during the night.

Hi, thank you very much for this beautiful ride with "side rail" feeling. At hour/minute 2:18:42, a car was trapped in the level crossing. You should stop and wait beforehand. 😉😁 What I still noticed, in Croatia every station is actually still occupied. I like that, like it used to be here. 👍🏻 Best regards to Slovenia 🙋🏼♂️
@AG-D647 Glad you enjoyed it! I saw the car on the video, I was not driving. I am not a train driver. I am just filming. And the stations, I like this old style stations with people. Best regards.
@@RailRelaxation Yes, I know you're just filming. 😉 I meant the car driver. He or she should not have gone into the closing barriers. That can be bad. Greetings 😊
@@AG-D647Yes. I don't even want to think about it.
@@RailRelaxation Fortunately, everything went well. 👍🏻 But it's crazy what you see by the way.
@@AG-D647 True. Here in Slovenia there are quite a few accidents with a car on the crossings. Most of the time the car drivers are in a hurry and want to quickly pass before the train arrives....but it seems that they don't have a clear idea about how difficult it is for a train to stop.
Very bad situation at 2:18:41 . If that little Fiat had been a long-bed truck instead...!
Molto molto bello!
@nobelitaly1024 I know, the speed could be better. The line needs a lot of work before this can happen. I hope that in the future they will get to invest in this beautiful and very interesting line too.
What a great channel! Thank you for providing us with such high quality cab ride videos.😊 Is there any chance to film along routes in Norway? Or other parts of Scandinavia?
@sebastiantausch4224 Thank you for your compliments. I would love to. My plan is to do those parts ofEurope too....
53:43. Nice horn.
@ELIZABETH-fu1tf🙂
6:50. high pitched noise begins.
Beautiful railway line! A little slow perhaps! However, the line certainly crosses the Istrian karst landscape, without touching the large coastal centers such as Porec and Rovinj. The line needs improvement I think, but in any case the Croatian railways are implementing and improving the situation almost everywhere! Well, perhaps with the explosion of tourism in Istria and Croatia's entry into the Eurozone, the situation could improve in the near future and perhaps in Zagreb the Government could at least rectify and electrify the line. Maybe they've already thought about it! The slope and the continuous curves limit the cruising speed, making the line nice for passenger transport, but not for freight traffic. It is also true that the orography of Croatia and the entire Balkan peninsula does not allow the construction of coastal lines.
@wladislaw79 Thank you for your comment. It is true that the line is very old and it needs improvement. As you said the Croatian Railways are working hard on improvement of the rail infrastructure. I am not sure if this line is a priority. Until the 1966, there was a passenger service to the Kanfanar-Rovinj branch on that same line.
In the past there was another narrow-gauge railway line in Istria (width 760 mm) between Trieste and Porec (123,1 km), which operated between 1902 and 1935, the famous "Parenzana".

Inače, odlično.....
The audio is out of sync at the beginning. When the train stops at the Buzet train station, there is a cut in video after which the audio gets synced.
Don't get me wrong, I love your work. This is just a slight observation.
@gashozeee Thank you for your observation and consideration. I am still struggling with the audio. because of the strong wind sound I film the sound with an extra microphone and this requires a lot of extra work and knowledge...but I am getting there. Thank you again for your patience.
@@RailRelaxation Thank you for making awesome videos. I was wondering why is there no sound of diesel engine, the other microphone explains it. 😁 Keep up the good work!
@gashozeee Thank you.
I only can find train connection from Pula to Buzet. Which connection was this that it runs over the border?
@hausamz This direct train runs only during the summer. It only runs from April to September, this year it was until 24 September. So last weekend was the last direct train from Divača to Pula.
@@RailRelaxationThanks for information. It's a pity that such information is so hardly available.

Primjer recimo 1:16:41 (tabla "25"), no ograničenje počinje na 1:17:32 (tabla "///") i traje do 1:17:50 ( tabla "||").
The line to Pula is looking a little … shopworn. It could do with some TLC. 😊
@saracen567 It is an old line with not a lot of traffic. I guess the priorities are on the other lines with more traffic.
There is some preparation design work happening and it might get some more TLC, but not too much (electrification not likely).

@TheRealHallands It is quite dry area, especially in late summer.
@@RailRelaxation Yes, but it looks fertile and it’s certainly not barren. Maybe with water-preserving techniques?
Not the agricultural centre of Croatia, there is better soil in the east (Slavonia). Istria is known for very good (excellent, world finest if You ask some people) wines and olive oils so there are orchards and vineyards abound. But this middle of Istria (where the railway line goes, due to strategic decisions from 150 years ago) is rather sparsely populated (with nice green forests thought) than the west coast with all the tourism, vineyards and olives (and with rather different climate) .
@@ZvonimirZelenikaThanks for your explanation. I suspected something like that, but it’s very weird for a Dane to see so much land without agriculture. We grow something on every inch, good soil or bad, something! Take a Birds Eye view on google maps if you don’t believe me…
