Loving the Channel, I really enjoyed the video going through that old Yamaha board. Never really considered a much older mixing board. It's kind of inspired me a little. So busy on the latest Mic Pre's and Compressors. Why not dive into an old board or console, at the very least it would be cool for analog summing.
i use the saffire pro 40 on a macbook pro 2014 catalina, with apple firewire to thunderbolt adapter, and its a pretty good interface, i didn´t have issues at all. focusrite has a version of the saffire mix control app that works with mojave and catalina. Nice video.
Bought one for 50 bucks, works perfectly. I use it as backup system for my Liquid Saffire, I have 26 i/o for dirt cheap. The Pro40's are used for 16 track 'on the road' recording, one running Firewire to my Mac, the other one in standalone mode connected with adat. All runs fine on Catalina 🎵🎶
I bought Pro40 in 2013 and was using that up to the last year. I upgraded my PC and unfortunately I couldn't find a good and reliable FireWire PCI card. I couldn't use the same PCI card as in previous PC as the new main board didn't have the same slot. What I did? I bought Scarlett 18i20 and hooked the PRO 40 as ADAT input. Now I have 16 inputs and I am very happy with that.
I have mines running on my MP 5,1 Monterey OS. Using it with the Behringer UMC 1820 w/ ada8200. I have it all aggregated with the UMC as the main output while the Pro 40 is being used for the extra 8 analog inputs for a total of 24 inputs!!! The system runs fine. I am just getting used to the Pro 40 and its Mix Control s/w. i just wish that the Mix Control ui could be expandable with its view, it's very tiny. But other than that, I love having this Pro 40 that is in absolutely mint condition. It was given to me by my cousin abt a week ago, who never really used it bc he has the newer Focusrite. I got it for free. So now, I'm going to keep my MP 5,1 bc it is totally maxed out and doesn't seem to be giving me any issues. Considering how old my MP is, this system is performing quite great in 2024. Thinking about buying a new cmptr, but at the moment it is not a priority as long as I am able to record a band without hiccups.., I'm good 👍🏾
oh, well as soon as you said ADAT, then yes, absolutely :P Or it should. I was thinking this was like when I hooked up my old AF MOTU 2496 mkIII that uses PCI or PCI-X (old Mac card bus). The answer, shockingly, was yes. MOTU still has modern Windows drivers for it. The only issue I had was at times it got out of sync if I used Sleep, I'd wake the computer up and it would be sped up or slowed down.
@@fcukingalien That totally depends on the PCI card you have. If it's something like an RME HDSP9652 w/ multiple ADAT I/O then yes. You would need a system with a Firewire 400 port in order to configure the Pro 40 units as stand alone but then you would be good.
Thank you! I almost bought this before really checking what I would need
Me too! dodged a bullet
"Store to hardware", how could I not think of this myself! Lifesaver!!!!! Thanks so much!!
I just bought a 2nd, been using the old one about 8-9 years. I love it. Also having no issues on the newer computer with mix control myself.
Thank you for the video. Found one cheap. Going to implement it in my system
Man, that was really helpful. Appreciate!
Thank you for posting this video. I have toying with the idea of buying one of these used. Really appreciate the effort.

I use mine since 2007 with a Behringer ADA8000 on my PC. 16 channels, 64 samples of latency max.

I have and currently use two of them slaved together. These things are great.
(noob question)
Can I use 2 pro 40 togethet as a 2x8channel AD/DA with a PCI card?
