I have the Gammax 400 V2 and i'm planning to upgrade to a LGA 1700 CPU in near future. For others like me, just know that Deepcool released "Intel LGA 1700 Mounting Bracket Kit" for the whole GAMMAXX 400 series (and a different kit for some other models of theirs) and it's dirt cheap, about 2$ or so
Ur tutorial motivated me to buy a cooler i was scared to mess it up just did this one today they made the installation even easier but men i had trouble with the spring just like you said its difficult. my fingers are cut and started bleeding a little bit from the pressure of the heatsink against my fingers while trying to get it off but my cpu runs about 20 degrees lower compared to the stock amd cooler so im happy
The springs are indeed brutal and because i was afraid to use more force in fear of damaging it, after a long struggle i turned to a different approach: Instead of trying to detach the main part of the spring from the heatsink itself, i detached one of the hooks that holds the fan. That part of the spring is way more flexible and even if it has one or two 90deg angles to deal with, it is not as tightly fit and it was easy to detach (and reattach after)
Gammaxx 400. The original cheap tower cooler. I've used it a lot. V2 has a better install process but it's a bit of a shame about the spare clips being removed.
I had the v1 of this which I bought several years ago. The mounting bracket was absolutely sh1te. Replaced it a couple of months ago for a AK620. Glad they revised the mounting bracket for the v2.
Hi. I bought this cooler after watching your video price was $19.95 USD which is very cheap. They have changed the AM4 mounting so I guess V2.1 now, it no longer uses a plastic bracket and uses 4 plastic screw caps instead of the metal thumbscrews you had to secure the cooler to the original AM4 MB backplate. Overall installation when the MB was already in my fair-sized larger mini ITX case was not easy, getting those spring clips with no room for hands on one side was equally difficult but the cooler performs very well once installed. Regards.
I wonder why more companies don't use a similar system to the one CoolerMaster has: plastic brackets with normal fan screws that just clip in to the cooler, no issue whatsoever with replacing the fan. Even the "ancient" Hyper T4 had these, and it came with two sets so you could add a second fan! Proprietary thing perhaps? Or do other brands just love to piss everyone off with the spring clips? I really can't like those things (although some are better than others, depending on the brand).
Was this the one in bargains that arrived with bent fins. Clips apart seems a bargain with a little colour that does the job. Like another I am spoilt with cm brackets on 212 and even replaced std fan with cm argb fan by simpky swapping brackets. Thorough review of fitting process as always. Also love that case, looks futuristic! Thanks Mike and Kath👍
I've got this cooler last year.. also swap out stock fan and put 2 Nzxt aio stock fan in front and back as push & pull config..overall the performance was great..
Those spring clips are always a pain. Bit like the artic freezer 34 eSports. Thanks for another in depth review. I quite like my artic CPU cooler lol...
I need a stronger cooler to replace one of my mt-6 on my 3950x. I think you reviewed one that could do good. I was pretty busy and I have some catch up to do so I find that video in my spare time.
@@mikesunboxing Sadly, the Gelid is not available right now. But it will be on my list with the Deepcool AK620, the Thermalright PA120 and maybe the Vetroo U6.. Will see!
I have the Gammaxx 400v2 cooler and the backplates are different... Plus the standoffs are plastic... It came with two LGA backplates... Not sure which chipset each goes to... The spring screws for the LGA mounting system are attached to the supplied brackets... There are no spring screws for the AMD brackets though... Instead they include 4 normal philips head screws to mount to an AMD mobo...
I really liked the video, I have a question, what case or cabinet do I need for this fan since I installed mine and I cannot close the glass since it is very large 😢
If you can get it cheap for around £15 then it's a decent cooler but at £30 it seems too much, the Veetro V5 is an ARGB fan cooler and usually costs £30-£32 so I think that would be the better cooler of the two personally.
this is true, the spring clips are a pain, but for the price as well as the cooling, it is very worth it. from 82 c full load from stock ryzen cooler, i now got 59 c full load. mind blowing!
Noticed that the cpu was completely coverd in thermal paste and not just a pea sized blob in the middle? I have wonderd about it coming factory like that, but people recommend just a peasized blob in the middle? Wich is better?
You REALLY dont like those sprint clips, do you lol. The overall installation process looks simple enough but I see what you mean about those clips. The cooler itself is still a legend in my opinion for those in the market for a cheap and cheerful (and colourful) kewler. Yeah there are other products on the market at this pricepoint but its a classic cooler nevertheless. Great video, thanks Mike and Kath.
is this equal to deepcool ak400 in performance? it's 10 USD cheaper in my country than ak400. I also have extra arctic p12 fan so I'll replace the blue led fan if that'll improve any performance. I'll be pairing it with ryzen 5600, rn it goes 85C under load on stock cooler
Nice one Mike! I've installed 3 of these before. Had the ARGB version, the all blue and the all white. My general thoughts are VERY good for the money if you get it on deal. Cools well, easy(ish) to assemble and lots of options. Only issues for me were the spring clips as you mentioned, the screws rotating in the rear bracket when you crank it down and bending the fins with the clips. However for the performance on the chips I paired it with I couldn't knock it. The ARGB version has a rather bright fan included. One thing I have noticed is the internal thermal paste is absolutely shite! But that's no surprise....
I have 4 of the original V1 versions. I actually prefer the Intel mounting on the V! version way better than the V2 version. What can I say...I like the Intel push pin coolers if they aren't too heavy. The V2 version has way too many parts to fiddle with. AMD and Intel. I'll take the V1 version any day. It's on my daily driver. Keeps it nice and cool. No need to upgrade. Take care all. Cheers
@@mikesunboxing Hey Mike...the spring clip for the AMD processors was a bugger to get on. I used a pair of pliers to bend it down just enough to get the cooler on the CPU. It is WAY easier to install the fan(s) on the cooler if you remove the GPU an lay the PC on it's side. Take care. Cheers

I got an ID-COOLING SE-214-XT white for £17 recently on Amazon, good deal but the fan clips do suck big time lol. Just poor design overall. Easier to install though, just use the stock backplate. Unlike this one.
