I like how the guitarists keep looking at each other and laughing. Thet takes amazing concentration to play in sync like that, and they're just smiling like "yeah, we freakin rule."
I saw these guys live in 1995 and they were incredible. They ALL can sing and they harmonize like no other band. I love so many of their songs with this song right near the top of the list. Check out the live version of "Seven Bridges Road"...fabulous.
They newer lineups don't touch the original lineup shown in this footage. No one can sing Take It To The Limit like Randy Meisner. And Don Felder with Joe Walsh were the best. Saw them on this tour in 1977, they were incredible.
Why does that duet at the end sound so good? There are 8 chords that repeat over and over in this song. The duet at the end is an arpeggio. That means they are playing the individual notes of those chords over and over. When they start it just sounds RIGHT! Everyone (even tribal people from Afghanistan) hear it as RIGHT!
The Eagles were unique in that their group vocals used a very tight 5 part harmony. Fantastic! The guitar is a double neck guitar. Don Felder, who plays it also wrote the musical track that the song is based on.
Eagles live is in my opinion one of the top 5 greatest live albums ever recorded. Every song is fire and it was all long before anyone ever dreamed of autotune or putting music through a computer.
This is such an iconic performance. Thanks for appreciating it. I never tire of watching people see it for the first time. That’s Don Henley on drums and lead vocals. Every member of this band is talented in his own right. There’s an abundance of creativity on that stage. 🌺✌️

Eagles are in the top three rock bands in history. In my humble opinion. Every member is a superstar in their own right. Joe walsh, red bandana, is one of the greatest guitarists ever.
I my opinion this was the epitome of the Eagles lineup, Don Henley on drums, Glen Frey on the acoustic or keyboards, Don Felder and Joe Walsh on the leads and Randy Meisner on the bass. All of them could sing the lead on different songs and the others would back them up. Probably the best mix ever. You need to do more Eagles and they had a huge string of hits.

First time viewer. Algorithm brought me here because of Eagles. So: I’m guessing that rock is “outside your wheelhouse” as you said…since Drew has never seen a double-neck guitar…..an iconic instrument used by certain top-tier guitarists that became symbolic of the guitar driven sound of rock in the 70’s. It was a combination 12-string and 6-string guitar…..often tuned to different scales so that the band could perform in concert songs that, on an album, would have required overdubs of more than one guitar sound. The most iconic guitarist who used a double-neck guitar was Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin……most famously on live performances of Stairway to Heaven………one of the most famous songs in rock history.
The songs about partying, drugs, excessive lifestyle. They're the quintessential band of the 1970's. My favorite band ever. You're right, Don Henley has an amazingly distinctive voice.
Don Felder on the double guitar was working in a music store and little 13yr old Tommy Petty came in for guitar lessons. They never imagined both being in the Rock & Roll HOF
Singer/drummer is Don Henley, on the right with the red kerchief is Joe Walsh, on the left is the late, great Glenn Frey (RIP). They were all respected studio musicians when they formed The Eagles and the magic happened. However, they had a bad breakup, so bad that they said that they would play together again when Hell freezes over. Well, years later, they announced their reunion with the Hell Freezes Over Tour! I am thinking the name was Joe Walsh's idea, because he has a very good sense of humor! Case in point: His take on fame & being a rock star, the song Life's Been Good.
I spark up my pipe every time I hear….“Warm Smell Of Calitas, Rising Up In The Air”. I have seen “EAGLES” do this tune and Don Henley do it live. AWESOME
Absolute classic. The guitar you've never seen before is a double-neck Gibson, 12 strings on top, 6 strings on the bottom. If you listen and watch carefully Don Felder is playing the top neck at the beginning of the song. There's a distinctive sound to it. In an interview he said they used different guitars, 12 string, 6 sting, & acoustic in the studio but couldn't do that live. Thus the double neck.

Randy Meisner handles a lot of the higher vocals and playing the bass
