When i had one has company car, the amount of "weekend" test drives it was needed for, only to find on Monday morning seats down, and some polystyrene balls, where someone had collected fridge/freezer etc. Still a great car. Diesels are the only engine to choose though.

Or maybe it’s just the time of day you film at which makes the lighting so great. Lovely review as usual - DR has such an easy charm in front of the camera. In Romania, VW Passat has 3 diesel variants: 2.0 tdi 122 HP, 2.0 tdi 150 HP and 2.0 tdi 193 HP. The VW company produces diesel, but English politicians no longer want diesel.
Can you specify a spare wheel? If not, then it's totally impractival coz if you completely shred a tyre then no puncture kit is going to get you moving again

I do not get is… why you do say that the capacitive buttons are rubbish? I drive VW ID.5 and I have no problems with those whatsoever. Do people really need to suffle withe buttons all the time while driving?

Why no diesel ? The new Tiguan and Skoda Superb offer diesels but not the Passat ! My Passat AllTrack with 4motion is a great car - just back from two weeks in Europe and averaged 59mpg with five people and luggage - it’s just so good on motorways. VW have missed a trick by not offering diesels compared to what’s available in Europe

I always had to shift my Golf Mark 7 DSG in sports mode to enter busy roundabouts, didn't have to do this in BMW 5 series, Mercedes E class, Seat leon or Honda civic
Don't listen to reviewers regards DCC ..yes it's more flexible BUT it's noisier than the regular dampers...you get noticeable more suspension rumble on bad roads...for me a no go. Especially on a car like this... something that VW wasn't able or willing to fix for many years. Check out the review of the Passat Marek Drives...he's one of the few reviewers who points out that weakness of VW group DCC in several reviews.
No dials for most of the important functions...you've got to take your eyes off the road while messing about with a touch screen....stupid and dangerous layout....
Nice looking car, great interior just limited with engine and transmission options. I'd opt for the skoda superb as a cheaper option spec for spec but I wouldn't have either over my 1995 passat estate. VW don't build things like they used to.
It's so much better because it's a Superb in disguise... Who would think of the day the Passat is a Superb and not the other way around. It's even made in Czech!
The 2003 edition is better, with a diesel engine, and less nonsense. Why do these companies always make every new product just slightly worse each release?

Even at the same price the Superb is the better car. Better, more intuative interior and diesel available which suits the car far better than the petrol.
The Passat is a really nice car. Having an enormous ipad stuck on to the dashboard is really really ugly though. I wish modern cars would go back to switches and buttons for controls. Far too many functions are being placed on these touch screen eye sores. They are a distraction and at times dangerous to navigate through settings whilst driving. By all means have a smaller screen to facilitate sat nav but that's all you need a screen for. Everyone I have spoke to about this hates these touch screens just as much as me. Are we in the minority, I wonder...
@@conoconnor4375 I disagree. People still want diesel. Especially with the cost of living crisis. Diesel is more cost effective for someone doing long journeys or motorway driving. The Skoda superb has a diesel option and is selling great.
@@Emjackson89You'd be better off off going with the Skoda Superb, much better value, cheaper to buy, and more importantly skoda are supplying it in diesel to the UK market, as far as I know, they're certainly supplying them in Ireland in diesel at least. You're paying extra for the VW badge, quality wise, the skoda matches, or even surpasses the VW passat, I much prefer it's interior to the passat, plus it actually has physical buttons for the heating adjustments, unlike the awkward, fussy slider buttons on the passat, plus if you're not a fan of estate's, it has the option of hatchback, and lift back options, which give the physical impression of being a saloon in shape.
Couldn't agree more. I currently have a Skoda Octavia VRS petrol and it's fantastic. Prior to that I had the Alfa Romeo Guilia Speciale (diesel) and it gave me 700 miles on a tank. It was amazing and if I still was doing long journeys then I would've got the Skoda superb diesel for sure. The Alfa ruined bank account but I loved every minute of owning it hahaha @@conoconnor4375
Always had new Passat wagons each time since 2002…b6, then w8, then 3.2 then 3.6…last one was bi-tdi. Didn’t buy the facelift because the diesel was gone and no 6 cylinder, won’t be going near this either. What I have found however…this is the first Passat I’ve owned outside of warranty and it’s discusting…not the engine itself the electronics and low qaulity plastics. Touareg got ditched when they ditched the v8 tdi and replaced by a Merc. The only vw I intend keeping is my golf 3 door ed30 I’ve had from new, and is way way better built (minis the toys admittedly)…VW has lost its way and kinda deserves what’s coming…they listen to lobbyists and not their customers
This new Passat looks brilliant! It's proof that SUVs are worthless! You don't need an SUV and estates are much nicer to drive and travel in! It is a shame that there's no diesel, but I can understand because of the moving away to electric and diesel cars are dying, so it's no surprise, but it's great that VW is still giving the Skoda a diesel. Speaking of which, I do think the Superb maybe a better choice as of price and perhaps sometimes even though Skoda is getting a little more premium nowadays, it's sometimes ok for basics. It's like with Renault, just buy the cheaper Dacia instead.
SUV have their place. Placing children in or taking them out of car seats is easier and less back breaking. Those with mobility issue can get in and out far more easily in an SUV. They used to do cars with slightly raised heights, but these were nit popular and were phased out. The only one available now is the Kia Exceed.
I think that depends on where you live. In Italy you have 2 diesel engines. It's a shame you can't have it, because I think it's the only option that make sense for this kind of car.

If you want to spend the holidays and just relax, I suggest towards the south (the beaches there are amazing, also in the islands). If you want to live here, maybe have a job, I would suggest northern regions. Not necessarily big cities: I find the small ones like Treviso, Verona (and even villages in Tuscany, like San Gimignano) better overall, also because if you have a car you can easily move around and visit (or even by train actually, but if you want to enjoy the mountains, which are amazing in Veneto and Trentino, a car Is needed). I mean, prices are pretty steep, but that depends on your salary.
The guy who designed those sliders for the climate control is probably the only one. Oh and company car people who get the hybrid cheap and want to look like they spent money.
Why do you still talk about transmission tunnels ? Only a very small percentage of mainstream cars ( BMWs) are rear wheel drive, I would imagine that a considerable number of your viewers have no idea what one is.

The Skoda has separate, physical climate control knobs. Driving a car is so much nicer when the controls are intuitive.

I don't know where you get your info from, but the Mercedes E-Class boot has 615 liters, not 540. Still smaller than Passat, but still respectable.
Save your cash and get the Skoda Superb instead.

It's got the same steering wheel as my 2022 204 t32 highline volkswagan transporter .possibly because it's better than those touch sensitive buttons.
VW got a huge amount of criticism about the touch controls, and the climate controls which you couldn't see in the dark.
Here in Austria it costs fully almost 70k€...

Why do you still talk about transmission tunnels ? Only a very small percentage of mainstream cars ( BMWs) are rear wheel drive, I would imagine that a considerable number of your viewers have no idea what one is.
