    Thanks for explaining the variator roller position, was checking out for this video for along time. And was clearly explained 👍. People on TH-cam keep confusing by setting the rollers the opposite direction of what you mentioned and some saying the coloured sides facing eachother.

    Hi great video. I used NCY 12g rollers and managed to get the bike up to 52mph. But at the top end speed I’m getting a vibration, any thoughts on why? I did notice the 12g rollers have different looking sides on them. Do you know if they all have to go in the same direction? Rollers did not come with any directions and can’t seem to find any information or videos on it. Thank you

  • @seekter-kafa

    actually this might be wrong! the stopper side (each roller has 'open' side and stopper side -red in this case) should be on the OPPOSITE of rotation direction, at least according to dr pulley and kymco factory

      metal side leads in clockwise direction -simplest, so if you imagine variatior as an old clock at noon metal or open side would be right, but at six it would be left, always leading in clockwise direction

      @@johnwhite3346 you probably already got it fixed now. But, you would need a variator holding tool or impact driver/wrench and a scale. Take the variator off and weigh the rollers. Go lighter for more rpms and better acceleration but possibly lower top speed.

      @@russbraidwood7416 Thanks for responding! I can well imagine that it may change a lot, in particular with some smaller scoots. Sort of adjusting it to the local riding conditions and rider.
      I tried each 1 g less, Dr. Pulley sliders, not rollers. It did improve a little the pull from 10 kph to 70 kph. However, I'm back to stock. Reason? I found my Sym 170 cc is with passenger equal or stronger than most others of this class solo. The top speed not, but acceleration. It seems mine is very well tuned from factory.
      For others it might be well worth a try, since it's low cost tuning.

    In gearless scooters, Should we apply greese or wax on rollers and roller-grooves in variator for smooth spinning of rollers in variator?
    Or will it make more issues after some time like dust deposit, vibrations etc ? Please tell what should we do with proper reason.

    • @john21031
      @john21031  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The repair manual does not call for any lubrication of the rollers, so that is the advise I follow. As to the reasons why, I can only speculate - no need to reduce "friction" there, or perhaps unwanted oil contamination... I had no problems with rollers for tens of thousands of miles without any grease.

    • @Sidg2
      @Sidg2 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@john21031 Is this theory correct that after applying grease on round rollers they don't able to roll properly and tends to slide which cause irregular flat sides. And these irregular flat sides causes vibrations on certain speed? Is it right?

    • @ArcanePath360
      @ArcanePath360 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Sidg2 No. Dr Pully has flat "rollers" which are designed to slide. You don't put grease on them the same way you don't put grease on your tires or transmission belt. They are already round and designed to roll. Gripping is no problem for them so grease in completely pointless.

      Either from the wheels (bent rim or bad tire) or if the vibration comes from the engine area, you might have bent variator or clutch or the piston is damaged. Take the variator cover and run the engine, see if anything is vibrating. Good luck.

    Its not always like that !!! . BMW C650 the side with the thin edge faces towards the low sidewall in variator plate. So I am assuming your way is only if the variator plate has the same heights sidewalls as the video shows. I recommend always check the specific bike manual first.

      The exposed metal roller wears out the softer aluminium ramp side eventually causing the rollers to dislodge and jam often resulting in a stuck in high gear situation.
