How to code your BMW i3

- Unlocked the full capability of your BMW i3 with this coding video. Using a VGate Wi-Fi dongle and the BimmerCode app you can turn on features that are not available on the U.S. version of the i3. The two biggest missing features for those who have the range extender version of the i3 is the ability to turn on the range extender whenever you want and the smaller amount of available gas. With this video you can change both settings.

Thanks for the great video. I bought the adapter from the link below. But mine doesn’t give me any control in ‘instrument cluster’. It just shows ‘no data’. I asked the buyer about this. They said their product doesn’t give you control in that section. I see yours is black while none of the adapter in the link is. Did you buy it from anywhere else? If so, do you mind to share it with me. Thank you very much!

You have to go into expert mode under the instrument cluster menu. Then you have to look for the German writing that includes "volume." Then you have to choose the 8.5 value. Then select code to increase fuel tank capacity.

Thank you for the great video, and I am going to code my i3 rex as well. One more question here, my i3 warranty will be end in Aug 2020. Any impact on the warranty after coding?
It really depends on your dealership. Coding a i3 is a little iffy when it comes to warranty. It you want to be completely safe and not worry and then code it.
Phew, this will save me a time off a work trip that's too close for work to buy a flight but about 100 miles too far to drive without 1-2 charge stops (and the companycars are too big..i hate driving those monsters).

thanks for the video. I've read on the forums that you should backup your settings so that when you do take it to a dealer and they touch it.. and blow away your settings you can recover those. can you show the backup and recover process in this app too? like backup a section. change something and then recover it from backup.
Honestly if I had to go to the dealer I’d just plug the vgate back in and change the two settings back. It takes under 5 mins to do.

How is the car's suspension??? Dies it drive well in snow??? (Skinny tires) I live in NJ and I'm seriously thinking about buying a pre-owned i3.

Actually skinny tires cut through snow better than wide ones, there are demos on you tube.
I’ve seen some youtube videos but again this winter no snow. It’s hit or miss each year whether we get snow in Little Rock.

Can you use a Bluetooth OBD2 dongle?... or just WiFi?
There are Bluetooth dongles that work but they are not that reliable. The WiFi one worked perfectly for us.
Can the 95MPH limiter be removed?

what other codes did you apply that actually worked
Coding the REX and changing the gas tank capacity to 2.4l were the only two I did. There are a bunch of other small things you can change, like folding in the side mirrors, when you lock the doors.
Chris where would I find closing the mirrors?
