Hi folks - back at Hawksmoor today, just a few weeks after my last visit... very different price meal though... will it match up to the expensive steak I had previously??
Ooh, I love the art deco vibe and the meal was of great value and quality - you just cannot beat a good steak. What a fantastic review, Sir. Fantastic work and this restaurant is top class.
My first impression of this restaurant was how elegant it looked, as you also stated, Greeno! Very good value, considering how much you paid last time!
Wow Greeno ,what a stunning deal...looked truly delicious😋. I think it was rested perfectly,it didn't run blood just minimal juices. I will pop in there for lunch next week, as I am working in central weds & thurs ,5 mins away... Thank you so much ,another new place to try that I can get to quite easily... I just might leave a green tea light on the table when I leave, just to annoy you 😂...
You're such a nice guy Greeno. I love watching your video's and your honest reviews! Ive never been to half the places youve been but if i could i will definitely take your advice onboard 😊
That's what it's all about - if I can find good places and good value then it can help inform people of where's good to spend their hard earned. Similarly, helping to weedle out the ones probably best avoided to of course!!
Hi Greeno! Happy New Year. 🎉 Great choice to review the Hawksmoor lunch special. If I were in London, I'd be booking for that immediately. I very much enjoyed your pre-Christmas review, but that was so expensive for the meal. It is easy to spend £20-£30 at a fast food joint now-a-days for mass produced, mediocre or often poor food. I'd much prefer to spend that money on something like this at Hawksmoor! You're bang on... It's the perfect time of year to look for deals & people may find some good options for restaurants which would usually be out of their budget. Fantastic review Greeno. See you on the next one. 😊
Yes, I think it's a great chance for people to seek out deals at the moment - in the post Christmas lull restaurants are finding ways to put bums on seats, and if you don't get tempted by too many sides or drinks then you can have a good experience relatively cheaply!
Good value I feel. I was at a Harvester today with Fish and chips. Was brilliant. Very large and beautifully cooked Haddock. Had the free starter . Ended up just £10 including coffee. It was a deal, normally far more. Wow that steak is huge. Salad looks incredible.
That is a good deal at the Harvester - i hope you went big on the salad cart too. It's funny, we've been to Harvester as a family a couple of times, Little'un gets the salad bowl and just fills it with pickled onions!
What a beautiful place, that window behind you was lovely. The steak looked really good, glad they didn't compromise the quality, but what a difference in the price, I think I know which people would choose. I hadn't heard your python jaw comment for awhile, so it gave me a chuckle. Thank you again for a great review.
Really good to see the range here, and confirm how much the kitchen cares even about the lower priced options. Glad it wasn't a matter of you suffering too much! 😅
I know it's slow in Jan and Feb for food outlets, but this deal really is good, both for them and the consumer. Nicely presented and hopefully will drive a bit of trade their way 💚
Brilliant video as always And excellent review too!! Definitely good value for money considering the normal prices there. Who is the cameraman, will he get revealed or is it a secret like the identity of the cameraman on Gary eats.. the stig of the TH-cam world? Hope all is well, take care
In this video the cameraman was me :-) Most of the time it is. Sometimes Mrs Greeno - very occasionally I can lean on the talents of Gary's cameraman :-)
That looked fantastic value. Anchovies are great little flavour bombs. I always add them to bolognaise sauce or beef casseroles. They are also nice served as part of a deli plate with olives, sundried tomatoes, artichokes etc. Mmmmmmmm role on summer
I love anchovies, too! I put them in a salad - with potato, green beans, hard boiled egg and a little raw onion - I use the anchovies as a seasoning in the dressing, something like the Caesar would be. Everyone who has tried it, loved it! I always have a little jar of regular anchovies, and when I can get them, white anchovies, in the fridge! They are also part of a delicious onion tart I make! So versatile and when used well, just a nice umami flavour! Looked and sounded like a fantastic meal, yet again, from Hawksmoor - and great value for money. When it tastes that good and is presented well, paying a higher price than other establishments is justified!
@@GreenoEats it might take you a day or three to get here! And would cost a LOT more than that first Hawksmoor meal you ate! (for flights, etc! I'd cook for nowt!) Probably cheaper to make your way through the whole Hawksmoor menu!
You mean there are actually people who don't like anchovies? The next thing you will tell me is that some don't like sardines ! Everything looked great. Nice video good start to 2025.
Excellent value for money. I went to a restaurant recently and bought a burger and chips from a rather disappointing chain restaurant and it cost £19.50. His review was 'it was ok'. Just goes to show what you can get if you shop around.
Great review, interesting that they have the same approach at ‘cheap’ and ‘expensive’….a credit to that organisation. Plus, I personally like you did a comparison review of the same company 😊
Good meal - almost unbeatable price. Nice to meet a lover of anchovies -I like them very much too, esp. on pizza and pasta. Greets from Germany - and belated - Have a good year!
So ehh… does it get Greenos green light? Well you never said 🤣 Looked bangin mate and a great price too. You’re such a lucky duck finding places like that. Well deserved 👍
Haha - good on you. A glass of red wine a day is supposedly good for you right. So it walking a mile a day. Walking 3 miles a day is better for you... soooo... hic 🍷🍷🍷
Actually London is full, of good cheap eats. Yes, it can be super expensive, with some rubbish places, however loads of restaurants will feed you pretty well for around 20 quid, some much cheaper. That steak looks fantastic, right up my street. Another quality video, so enjoyable.
A great video again Greeno. My only disappointment is that I live in Ireland and therefore will not get the opportunity to try the places that you highly recommend.
Hi Greeno looking good 👍 it's 35 Degrees C here where I live in Australia 🇦🇺 stunning decor too ❤ Wow 👌 looks amazing! Another wonderful review Greeno 👏 👌 ❤
@GreenoEats Hi Greeno yes I know ...everyday in its 30s no rain very dry too! When rain comes I think I will do a 'Rain dance' 🌧 we really need it desperately!
(385) Well, can't carp about that meal. Interesting how cuts of meat that go by the same name look different from country to country. I would have found the Caesar salad a bit too "clashy" with the steak, but to each their own. Great upload, Greeno. THANKS!!!
Glad you enjoyed the video. You're right, we do all have different likes and dislikes, that's the thing I like about the comments section, the (mostly cordial) discussion of other people's thoughts 🙂
Steak looked really scrumptious, Caesar salad too. Fries can never replace chips IMO. Rather would have gone for the sweet potato. You talked about January deals, I heard that McCafferty's are offering a 50% off food at lunchtime. Well worth a look if you have one near you. I don't!
Very nice looking rump steak. That is a major drop in price for Hawksmoor from their specialty steaks on the regular menu. Smack bang in London in very comfortable surroundings. Very reasonable value really. With a great looking steak like that, think I would break the keto diet a little and indulge in a baked potato. I enjoy your showcasing of food all over Europe, Greeno!
I think that's an American cut (New York cut?) which is tall. I encountered this in Seattle and I think there's some reverse sear going on, where it's mainly done in the oven, with the crust added separately pan fried. I went to the steak restaurant that Bill Gates and Tim Allen used to go to in Seattle and most of their steaks were high and the best side was the massive stuffed potato.
The steak is what they used to call a D rump, when the Hawksmoor first opened. Back then I recall it was about £15.00 with chips and that was almost 20 years ago now, so actually £20 is a very reasonable price these days. Though I seem to recall it came with a choice of starter as well.
@@GreenoEats I totally agree, I know I harp on about the Devonshire, but they offer 2 courses for £25 and 3 for £28. That is an amazing prawn cocktail a steak and chips and if you go for pudding it's sticky toffee, it's a superb deal for that money. The best in London at a top place (at the moment) though is in my opinion at Josephine Bouchon, 24.50/29.00 - it's amazingly good.
I love your videos Greeno, but i do think you should concentrate on places more local to you than London. I am sure there are some great places to eat nearer to where you live.
Of my last 100 videos 19 are in London. Just as many or more local to me. I like to show food from all over, but a lot of restaurants just don't have branches close to me.
I think you have to be slightly mad to pay €91 for a steak so the meal you had in this vid was definitely a bargain and looked really tasty. Another fantastic video Mr Greeno 💚✌️
A missed opportunity. You should have told Gary - "lunch at Hawksmoor, my shout". He turns up thinking he's getting the 90 quid steak and gets this instead.
Well for that quality for £33.75 is same as one of THE most expensive Sydney pubs charges for similar... so its still "top end" price wise for me...considering i have many choices of steak meals for about £15-£17 here is still double what i am used to paying-, Yes it looked 5/5 ...but even as a bargain its LONDON PRICES!😮
A well priced lunch at one of the restaurant greats though it was an interesting contrast with your porterhouse athe floating Hawksmoor. I thought your Porterhouse was a tad undercooked on the outside whereas your rump here seems a tad overcooked (for my taste I have to say or am I imagining it? ) but I wasn't sitting opposite you, so I have to accept your expert opinion. The salad could have been chopped a bit more for my liking but that is nit picking. Overall, a better priced January Treat, you lucky man. Can I ask something about the video procedurals though please? Why do you, Gary and Deano all go outside before you give your final review please? Is there something I am missing here ? Why don't you do it at the table after you have paid the bill ? What happens if it is slashing down with rain (or snow) when you get outside and the Pocket 3 isn't waterproof of course ?
I don't just for a change of scenery, and so that a complete opinion can be given without staff earwigging. Plus if I have to be critical then it's not fair to do that in earshot of other customers.
Hi Greeno Thank you for another great video, yes the steak was good and Caesar Slad was good to and fries to me were just like everywhere you go,as not being any expert on food so I get confused when you talk about things being good differently like the chips they all seem the same to me. Well glad you got that meal for a special price otherwise you would never get me in those places. I have never been to any top restaurants and would never pay those prices anyway ,to me food is food. Thank you for sharing
Glad you enjoyed the review. It's worth taking yourself to a well reviewed place once in a while - just to experience it and see if it changes your mind. I know food is fuel, but there's red diesel and there's jet fuel :-)
This was very good rump though JJ - I have enjoyed my Hawksmoor experiences, will have to try their Sunday Lunch sometime, and maybe their breakfast later in the year.
Hi Greeno Definitely better value than the one at £91 . I won’t argue about the cut because you were eating it & not me so you would know However I really do love a Fillet Steak lol. And like you I also love Anchovies but that was a vey strange version of a Caesar Salad although I don’t doubt it was tasty of course . Keep the reviews coming I look forward to them 👍
@@GreenoEats Yeah sorry for doubting if that was a Rump Steak , I guess they can be different in shape it just looked so very lean , and I always say no fat no flavour of course 🤣
Evening Greeno, hopefully you can't go far wrong with the classic. Steak and Chips. A fair priced lunch time meal. Of course, the basic price is the hook, and unless you have an iron will. Extras can raise the final cost. Always think, proper old-fashioned chips with a steak. But on this occasion the fries looked fine. Caesar Salad, had almost £6 worth of Parmesan cheese on it. Very good portion. Lettuce sounded fresh&crispy (first in, so it should be 👌😋) Star of the show, nice bit of Rump Steak. Which I thought was masquerading as a fillet 😋🥩. Forgetting to ask " how do want it cooked? " Slight boo boo. Especially as you were the first customer. But we'll recovered. In the current financial situation all hospitality venues must be open to doing deals on meals. The only way to get bottoms on seats. Overall, beautiful dining room, well appointed with many excellent features. Well prepared food. And again, a London eaterie 👌👍😊thank you for that. See you in the next video Allan&Family
You’re right Allan, the trick is to hook folk with the headline deal, and hope that the extras add up! The steak was a good lump, the fries decent enough and the Caesar salad and Béarnaise were excellent 🙂
I did Popeyes for you 😂 . . I got a sandwich box . . Chicken sammy(burger) . . 2 spicey wings . Cajun gravy n potato. . Cajun fries drink . . Plus an extra 2 tenders . . Loved it . . The chicken was juicy not oily . . The coating wasnt oily . Fries could of been crisper . . The cajun gravey and potato was interesting but nice . . Overall . Spicey but not over the top . Id go back . . Id buy there biscuits to try with the gravey . . 👍👋🇳🇿🍻

The salad was being sold as a side dish, I could have had it as a starter though I am sure.
The steak is what they used to call a D rump, when the Hawksmoor first opened. Back then I recall it was about £15.00 with chips and that was almost 20 years ago now, so actually £20 is a very reasonable price these days. Though I seem to recall it came with a choice of starter as well.
Interesting - thanks for that insight. I have to say £20 for that meal in this restaurant felt like a bargain in this day and age!
@@rowluxillusion5235 I do love a sticky Toffee pudding!!!
@ That’s fair enough. Don’t listen to me as I don’t know anything . I think you are doing a great job
@@chriselliott414 I am happy to listen to all criticism (especially when it's as politely put as yours was!!)
The food looks good ❤😊
Very tasty indeed
I think you have to be slightly mad to pay €91 for a steak so the meal you had in this vid was definitely a bargain and looked really tasty. Another fantastic video Mr Greeno 💚✌️
Thanks, I appreciate that!!
Went there a few years ago for my son’s 18th birthday. Ended up pretty expensive as he was knocking back the cocktails! 😩
Kids huh!!!
I would like to see liver and onion s with mash potato and peas with gravey
Never been a huge fan of liver
A missed opportunity.
You should have told Gary - "lunch at Hawksmoor, my shout".
He turns up thinking he's getting the 90 quid steak and gets this instead.
Haha - he'd have still been happy with it I reckon!
Having a sirloin steak tonight tomato salad and some salt and pepper fries and some more Shiraz 😋👌💯💯💯🍷
Sounds like a good Friday night!
@GreenoEats Thursday mate lol
Not just London prices - it's UK prices these days - everything is expensive!!
Oh dear.. I actually feared as much! Things are not good price wise where I live but still no where near as bad as the UK😮
@@GreenoEats Thank you for the explanation and clarification.
Have to be honest my favourite was the caeser
I loved the whole anchovies on it, delicious!
That is a real bargain for them 😲 - hope it’s the same quality 🤞
Love Caesar salad - will go perfectly 👌
Fair play - great value and quality 👏
You'll find out :-)
Hawksmoor is good, not a huge fan of rump though super video Greeno
This was very good rump though JJ - I have enjoyed my Hawksmoor experiences, will have to try their Sunday Lunch sometime, and maybe their breakfast later in the year.
great presentation ;-)
Glad you enjoyed the video!!
Good afternoon Greeno!
Let's see if this bargain at Hawksmoor is worth it.
Why didn't you get the Caesar salad first?
It was offered as a side, rather than a starter, happy to have it as an accompaniment to the meal though 🙂
I love bernaise sauce ❤😊
It's my favourite steak sauce
Great VFM 😀
Agreed!!
Keep the reviews coming I look forward to them 👍
Glad you're enjoying the content Chris! This was definitely better value than my previous Hawksmoor experience!
Good deal but at their normal price point I’m shocked to hear they are serving up frozen fries.
I was a touch surprised to hear they didn't have chips, but did have fries. Unless they'd lost the slicer with the chip sized fitting 🤣🤣🤣
I did Popeyes for you 😂
Id go back .
. Id buy there biscuits to try with the gravey . . 👍👋🇳🇿🍻
Thanks for the review Roger! I do look forward to trying it out sometime!
5 of 5 and good value.
Yes, very good value indeed!!
