      That was an awesome ride and a great video! Biggest ride I've done and probably will ever do is Marmotte Grandfondo Alps. I don't apply sunscreen above my eyes, I figure my glasses and helmet fully protect that area 🤷

    This was great! Love how real it was, and the admission of ride film quality coming at the expense of a great ride workout and vice versa. Followed on Strava and was super impressed when I saw the ride. Was excited for the video. Keep it up!

    Congratulations on making it through! We always learn from our mistakes and hydration in that kind of heat and humidity is really key. That said, without a reason to ride to Key West to meet up with family as you had that looked like a truly grim route. For your next long ride, you might try a state that has hills and less traffic! And happy that Vivian is doing well again.

    Surviving a 100 mile ride is ok, but you survived doing it in Florida! Now that is definitely impressive. I’m a Canuck and start overheating at 70 F. I doubt I could do even a quarter of the distance you did in Florida weather. I almost blacked out at 60 miles on flat land when temps hit 70; I sat on the ground in the shade and still thought I was going to fall sideways as the black spots in my vision worsened.
    Craziest ride I’ve done is Haines Junction, Yukon, to Haines, Alaska. 148 miles. Up and over the mountain range and down to sea level. Beautiful scenery all the way especially at the higher elevations on the Yukon side. Got a van ride back to the Yukon though. Didn’t want to climb those mountains a second time within a week.

    Craziest is probably the Ottawa to Kingston ride up here in Ontario Canada. It’s about 175 km and you go down one day, stay overnight, and come back the next. I was coming down with a raging cold on the way back and honestly don’t remember the last 50 km of that ride. Weather was nice tho 😂

    40 year Florida resident here. Regarding sunscreen, if parts of your body are covered, i.e. your forehead by helmet and sunglasses, you don't need to put sunscreen there. Arms, legs, neck, cheeks, chin, nose are all you need to apply when riding.
    Also, rain...yes...there is nothing more glorious when you're doing something outside in the summer in Florida than a cooling afternoon rainstorm. Playing soccer, riding a bike, everything is better in the rain. Assuming you don't get struck by lightning, then it sucks.

    The glory of riding a century? Yes, I did it in an MS fundraiser ride. It's great to be a part of something larger than yourself, and the support and camaraderie were amazing. And my wife - my better half - reminds me of this feat. (I guess that's all I need.) But I'm not sure I need to ride another century. Man! That's a lot of miles! But then again ...
    PS I really enjoy the content.

  • @Markhypnosis1
    @Markhypnosis1 ปีที่แล้ว

    Previously, my longest ride was 50 miles. So I decided to go straight in and do 170 miles. At mile 100 I was knocked off my bike. Bruised arse, bent rear hanger, and a massive blood sugar dump due to the shock gave me low blood sugar for the rest of the ride. I completed it, and felt even more proud of finishing it due to those unforseen challenges.
    A couple of months later I did 204 miles. The only issue with that one was really, really sore feet due to shoes that were too narrow. It totally wrecked me for a week though 😂😂. Can't wait to try it with my new wide fit shoes.

    QUESTION - we (2 adults 50's with Fat Tire eBikes with 120 mile range w/2x batteries) are planning on doing this one weekend in the OFF Season to capture great dry 70 degree weather and less traffic. We plan to start in Key Largo and stop in Marathon at the half way point, spend the night and recharge our, and the eBikes, batteries. My question...what were the most dangerous sections of the ride? We know 7-Mile will be one with a narrow shoulder...others???

    • @MitchBoyer
      @MitchBoyer  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would imagine you’ll be fine range-wise. It’s been a few years so I don’t recall specific sections that were worse than others, but I do remember being surprised that the entire ride was on a highway with little to no shoulder at parts. The views are nice, but be prepared to be buzzed by a few large trucks/semis. If you do decide to go, I would suggest leaving very early each day to avoid as much traffic as possible.
