All of Rage's songs are about protesting oppressive systems and structures, such as capitalism, police brutality, and cultural exploitation. This one in particular was inspired by the Rodney King beating and the discovery that the cop that was the primary aggressor had ties to the KKK. Even if the musical style isn't your cup of tea, I highly recommend just reading all of their lyrics. Zack de la Rocha is such a powerful and passionate lyricist. RATM doesn't have any "pop" type songs.... every single song has a deep meaning. Tom Morello (guitarist) has an honors doctorate in political science from Harvard. He and Zack formed Rage because they believed in the importance of the message.
