    I’ve been a maintenance man for about 40 years and I think the Douglas pliers are the best. I can’t find anyone locally who sells them but I do see them for sale on Amazon

      That’s the only place I have found them as well. And expensive on there as well. I think I paid 40 some dollars. Thanks for watching Jeff! And thanks for your 40 yrs of service in the industry! I appreciate you watching

    Never seen those style of pump pliers before. I only have the Channel lock ones in two lengths that I use once in a while but those Douglas look well made with that locking tab. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!

      William Logan a lot of different pliers options out there. I’m glad someone suggested the Douglas ones they seem great. Of course it’s very hard to beat a pair of channel locks 👍

  • @garylsmalley
    @garylsmalley 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    You can not beat Douglas. The angle of the heads and slimness of the head allows easier use in tight spaces. I was a plumber 45 years using douglas. They also don't slip as they age. I have used older channel lock pliers that were worn and they could slip and really pinch the hand and fingers. Never had that problem with douglas.

      Hey thanks for giving some input here and watching the video. The reason I bought the Douglass pliers to try out is plumbers telling me it’s the best pair for plumbers and I can definitely see that. I like that channellock is also made in USA but I never really liked how there pliers operate. Me personally I’d go Douglass or knipex. I personally own knipex but like I said it seems Douglass is the gold standard among plumbers. Thanks for watching. Have a great day!

    Thanks for the video! I've noticed the Wilde and Douglas were similar and didn't know which one to buy. Think I'll go for the Douglas because Steve Lav uses it also and I love his plumbing videos. If a professional plumber swears by it then I will get the same ones. Great video!

    Now, I'm not interested in tools, and I forgot how I here for a while, but I just remembered and it's hilarious. ( My version of hilarious )
    I typed into my search bar Douglas and Wilde to learn more about Oscar Wilde and Lord Alfred Douglas's relationship. Although, this was a very good video and if I ever find myself wanting to learn anything about handiwork though, and I'm not sure of what brands to invest in, I will look to you and your comparison videos for an answer ^^.

    • @themaintenanceman1
      @themaintenanceman1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Now you really make me question how many people watched this video when what they really wanted to see was Oscar Wilde and lord Alfred Douglas’s. I appreciate you leaving this comment. It gave me a good laugh 😂. And most importantly it was very respectful. Now I’m off to see who Oscar and lot Alfred where or are 😂. Have a good night.

    The lower jaw angle on the Wilde is different i think its 32 degree so as the patent states greater leverage and gripping force, vs the douglas.

    Earlier this year I bought a pair of the Douglas and was irritated when I noticed that one of the handles was bent, like it had been bent during the forging process somehow and went through the other finishing processes including quality control and was packaged. I wouldn't normally have cared except that it was bent inward toward the other handle and the whole thing binds up at certain settings. Just be aware. I may try to heat the handle and bend it, but that will likely weaken it, so I'll probably give it away and buy another.
    I also bought a pair of the Wilde pliers, except with the smooth jaw for tightenig chrome fixtures. It came needing to be filed and I would have preferred it plated instead of clearcoated, but not sure what that does to chrome if anything.

      Wilde is making tools for Douglas, Gray Tools, Proto, Tekton and SK.
      Even Snap-On sells a model that I think is made by Wilde, but I'm not sure.
      I guess the new water pump pliers from Ridgid are also made by Wilde too.

      I honestly think it’s just 10 inches cause that’s all I’ve seen as well. Check out the Wilde brand (red pliers in video) I think they manufacture Douglass or have some connections. Wilde has a good lineup though. Thanks for watching. Have a great night!
