Tom it's not just about your parlour. When heifers are milking well it is a sign of good breeding, good food and superb management. You have a good team around you and long may it continue. All the best.
Love the transparency you provide through all your videos Tom. You're really sharing everything, I love seeing it all. Very happy for you that the crop is working out so well for you and the ladies. Hard work rewarded by the girls and in the production. That must be a boost of confidence after all the hard work (and money) you put in the maize fields.. Big compliment, thanks for sharing! See you on Friday 😀
Hey Tom - when my dad uses our hammer mill, he does something you might consider as a safety measure. He doesn't trust the brakes, even if they are good, and he puts a block (like a concrete block) to chock in front of the back wheel of the tractor and one under the mill wheel. He's not one to use time for extra steps, but he always does that to give him that much time if he needs it. Stay safe, and we only have gates held by string except my part of the farm, which doesn't even have a gate anymore - my dad took all the fences down 🙄
I grew up on a dairy farm in a small town in Maine. We fed clover/timothy hay and corn silage during the winter. We'd often have potatoes mixed in with the silage since Maine produces a lot of them especially in Aroostook County (the most northern and largest county in the state.) Our Holsteins loved the stuff.
Really glad the maze has worked out, they were really munching on that grub, just shows how mutch they liked it. Those yields are very good, I know its hard work but definitely worth it. 👍
That drone shot while you were filling the feeder was perfect! I think you can create programmed/repeatable shots like that and it would be great if you could add that as part of a weekly video, love just getting to see the overview of the farm and anything happening:-)
Hello and good morning Tom , your drone flying over the manure pit looks like it almost full of liquid manure not much room left. Wow the cows are doing very good on milk count . Putting salage with maze and feed it does help out a bunch.
Good to see a video on the business end of milking, some great yields there . Thanks for giving us an insight into the herd statistics, but as always its about margins .Hopefully the investment into maize will have paid off, after discounting time lost trying to get the crop out of muddy fields.
Your office area could do with a de-cobweb and a tidy up, spruce up mate, its letting the rest of the farm down now 😂. Some fantastic udders on those cows coming in the parlour!!
I have never run a Keenan mixer but we used Knight reel augee mixers for thirty years. They are very similar in design. I think your over filling the mixer and it will not mix evenly that full. Your cows are really rocking along production wise. You have over twenty 100 lbs. cows. That is tremendous.
Hi Tom, good that the cows are doing well on the maize. A few years ago you also had whole crop silage, is this not an option for you because maize ripens so late in your climate? I know that the nutritional value is less, but you can harvest in the summer and you can sow grass again in good conditions. What a great team you have 👍🇧🇪
Quick question, Tom... at circa 13:30, when youre checking herd data, what are "behaviour deviations"??? Is that some of the cows popping out for a pint & a curry? 😁
Great video Tom, the cows seem to like the maize. Looks like the Ginger Warrior was right, if you put good stuff in you get good stuff out. 👍. Speaking of that the slurry tank was looking pretty full. 🤔. How will you get on if the EA alter the rules on winter spreading?
Tom great video as usual. Couldn't but help notice your PTO guard on the feeder; it needs fixing!!! We've met a few times (AHDB a few years ago, briefly outside your farm shop and a couple of other events). Would really appreciate a chat about farm health and safety, you could so much to help. Dan
So with these high yields 1. Are there risks of them being difficult to get in-calf? 2. On reflection have you been underfeeding or have an unbalanced nutritional diet previously? When did you last check / calibrate the weigher on your TMR?
Tom, is there any chance you could do a video explaining your breeding policy for the milking herd. There seems to be several influences. Ayrshire, Jersey, Brown Swiss, Shorthorn, Freisian. Your cows seem to be smaller perhaps 75% the weight of a standard Holstein with presumably proportionate impact on both feed costs and productivity. How does a herd like yours compare on Vet costs and lifespan (Number of lactations) Our vast herd here in Queensland consists of 2 Illawarras (essentially Ayrshire X Shorthorn) kept for domestic supply (we are 60 km from the nearest store) Our older cow is on her 10th lactation
what non farmers don't realise the Maize is really a year in the making - sorting out variety of seed that works in your area, soil samples, and then you have to choose the ground and prepared the ground, then the weather decided not to cooperate, so the yeld is a little lower than you would like but the quality is there - look at the cows just scoff their food
I may have missed it in previous videos, but for this drive to get more milk from your cattle, would a more simple solution be to get more productive breads in, like Holsteins?
Some impressive yield figures. Forgive me if someone already asked or you previously covered it but did or would you ever consider going to the lely robot system - including the feeding equipment ? I know on the face of it that it’s a major capital investment.
Hej Tom you shut trie to put 2-4 liter off water in the tmr mix , pr cowthat Will get your milkyeald up, a better mix, the feed most be like a snowbold if you push it togethers whit your hands . Lars from denmark
So I’m not telling you what to do by all means. I’m not sure what selco is “sorry if I butchered that haha” I’m assuming it’s a grain/mineral. We don’t feed that though. But what we have done for a very long time is put haylage and corn silage in the tmr first to help the grain/mineral get mixed in properly. I hope that helps. I could t really tell what you said when you were looking at the mixed tmr in the alley but it sounded like you said that it seems like a bit of the selco comes out first. Sorry for the long comment hope this helps!!!! Love the channel
It would be interesting to see how the maths pan out... £20k to clamp it, +2.5 Litres (* x cows) a day for the duration of the feed = How much extra revenue? With no maize you'd need more grass silage, so the maize cost is actually £20k less grass silage cost. But whats the bottom line in 3/4 months of winter feeding the maize. Presumably worth the investment?

Love how chill the cow lying down was, she was thrilled with the head scratch
It’s amazing to see how you all and the farm has advanced since I subbed yrs ago. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👊🏻
Thank you for your ever present cheer and optimism. I really needed that today! Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Best of luck with everything ahead on the farm & thanks for all the videos this year 👍👍👍
Hi Tom great to see the cows looking good all the best, look after yourself and your family,
Absolute Powerhouse! 💥🐄 That 216 is an impressive cow-28.4 liters and still climbing!
Well done team! Always great to see you making progress!

Cows seem to love the maize. Great to see a well run farm.
Hi Tom, looks like things are going along nicely happy days.
Another very interesting video Thank you Tom and Ginger Warrior God bless you and your family 🙏
Hi Tom nice to see things are going well, especially the young heifers, regards to all on the farm, stay well and safe.

Hello Tom from Killarney Ireland.....great place for holidays...you’re maize is Amazing ...❤
Can you do a video on how the milk market works and the things you have to achieve to sell your milk.
Second the motion. Ayes have it. Passed.

Good to see the maize is working
A-maize-ing is right!
Especially considering the weather and the condition of the fields and crop this year.
Imagine how good it'll be next year!

21:20 the girl on the calendar doesn't seem too impressed by the milk yield hahahahahahaahaha

Hello tom, we never have useed any silage aditive, the top allways look good for first few weeks and then the air goes under and geets a bit reed.
Come to the Highland show you will love it 👍🏻

Try the tullamore show in Co Offaly next summer. Best show in Ireland 🇮🇪

It looks good Tom
Really enjoyed the video. ❤❤
Hello Tom, I love seeing the Keenan going around but do you ever clean it out and give the blades a good brush then oil them?
Can’t go wrong with good maize 👏👏 Will you be growing maize for the beef farm next year??

Great video Tom
Dont know if you have fed corn silage before. Somethimes cows have to get used to cornsilage for a couple of days and weeks
By the drone video it looks like the bubbler in the waste tank not in use ? I enjoy watching your channel .
It is. The separation has been down 🤦♂️
@@TomPembertonFarmLife Dam Thanks . I love what you do
The slurry tank looks really full and it's certainly too wet to get into the fields. Is there still enough room in the tank?
Keep an eye on the costings and MOPF too. Could include these in analysis videos?
Good increase and like the fact you using smaller cows
Any update on the solar coming?
A great video Tom
Don't forget Royal Cornwall show Thomas
Calendar is upto date TP 👌🏻
Tom you are doing well mate and don't forget youtube helps 👍
Good looking
HI good morning Tom from Indiana
Tom be carefull filling the bucket with pellets, ! Love the content.
Tom you need to invest in a shear bucket! Great job one tool does it all, meal, grains, silage and maize without having to take it off every mix!
puts very little grass silage in them
@ we have one and gets over 500kg of grass in a grab. And you don’t want too much either as it’s a big load on the feeder
@@ciaranbracken8447 what make, is it hard to get that amount
@@mickeyjoe-ne1og prodig 8ft bucket grab. Depending on dry matter can get up to 700/800 in a grab

Are the average milk yields measured over both milkings?
