Hudson Beal Angelica in real life was already married when they met, so that is also a big reason why they never went for each other and were more of mental soul mates of sorts.
@@blue-eyeswhitekirbo2543 Also a little trivia fact: Angelica's husband John Barker Church actually fought a duel with Aaron Burr in 1799 _(Hamilton died in 1804, five years later);_ both Church and Burr threw away their shots in that duel.

KevinJusticeWarrior this is a straight up matter of opinion. To a vast majority of people, being a decent person trumps deeds done. I am not saying he didn’t do a hell of a lot, he did. I am merely saying being a giant piece of shit (not just the cheating, almost NO ONE liked him who dealt with him, as a person) brings his accomplishments down a notch or two if you aren’t just looking at him from a political/professional standpoint. "I hate when it gets dark like this." I mean, this is not even that bad. "Take A Break" was the beginning of Alexander, exhausting himself to get his financial plan through, then getting duped in this.
It’s worth mentioning that Hamilton published an admission to the affair himself because he regarded it better than investigations that could have led to discovery of financial crimes (mainly helping his friends do insider trading). The mistress denied it happened and his wife forgave him quickly, both of which may suggest the affair never actually occurred and was just a story to be a red herring, or it could just be that divorce was much less accepted back then.
And it's not just that he lost control and did this... He did this for months, planning ahead of time. And I never know to what extent Maria had any choice in the matter. She probably thought Hamilton was a good man who would be kind to her and she didn't want to lose him.
If there's one thing we all know, it actually was a good thing for Alexander that he ended up marrying Eliza, the more understanding and demure one. Because Eliza burned his letters but if Angelica was his wife she would have set HIM on fire 🔥 🤣🤣
But at the same time what Eliza did was just as vicious. Throughout the play it emphasizes the importance that Alexander places on his own writing (which he equates to a legacy). In a way it’s his “proof” of grandeur and Eliza literally burns what is most important to him, his writing/letters. She knows what will hurt Alexander the most and she doesn’t hesitate to burn it down. She actually mentions how the letters could have redeemed him in her song Burn, but she instead used it against him by eliminating them. She was badass in her own way.
BTW, nobody knows if Hamilton and Angelica had a real relationship; what is _pretty_ clear from their letters is that they loved each other, _probably_ always stayed as platonic though. When he says he was "longing for Angelica" in the music, what Lin wants him to mean is that he misses having Angelica around to talk to; Angelica was someone whose company, intellectually, he much enjoyed. If there was anything else, well, nobody knows.
I was mad too but after listening a couple more times, you fall in love with her voice. Plus you gotta understand, he never loved Eliza, at least not really romantically.
