He started taking English and Literature, mostly because the VA had told him he had to use or loose his GI Bill benefits. The English and Literature folks told him he had to take a Psychology or Sociology class, he did that for a while. Then the Prof who was his counselor in the Psych department said he had to take statistics. So, took algebra and statistics classes, decided that was fun,and changed his major to Mathematics. they told him he needed to take chemistry class. That seemed fun, so he started taking Chem classes. They told him he had to take a physics class, they told him he had to lear to program computers and module things. He decided that was fun, and I met him when I was working as the Night Operator of the mainframe. The was the semester they made up the “Bachelor of Science Americanus”. And, made him graduate. He was making more than most of the Profs, and there mostly because for a highly intelligent, non-drinker in Vegas, there wasn’t a lot for him to do.

    This could've been me. I knew going into college that it wasn't for me but I signed up literally 2 weeks before orientation anyways. I spent 7 years as a kid playing tennis and getting all the fancy shoes and rackets which both cost $200+ each out of my parents' wallet only to quit and to never win a tournament in my life. I didn't want to waste my parents' money on something that I knew I didn't care about.
    I feel lucky to have dropped out after the first semester because I got to experience life. (Technically I dropped out halfway into the first-semester cuz I started to ditch all my classes). Because of this I finally got to experiment with things that interest me without wasting thousands or tens of thousands of dollars and that "college experience" (it's really just partying which I don't like). To some college is the best choice and it just wasn't for me.
    I know we need engineers, doctors, and lawyers but what the hell was I going to do if I got a business degree. That don't mean sh*t if you want to build a business. As soon I found out that almost everyone that took that class was for backup or for corporate America. I found it's best to learn by DOING and learn from someone who's done it and had a lot of success and/or success stories and not just from reading a f*cking book. A lot of this sh*t is already on the internet. College is overrated imo.

    • @SourStrawberrys
      @SourStrawberrys 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The "college experience" is not all about partying. I went to 2 parties my entire time in college. The experience is what you make it. My "college experience" was making new friends from all over the world and cultural backgrounds and participating in a lot of free college activies on campus that got me to meet even more people and enjoy the beautiful campus. Sure you don't need a business degree to start a business, but you're going to need one to run someone elses. And for anyone who gets a business degree, they are going to at least need a masters (MBA) otherwise they shouldn't bother. Business majors are so common that employers are at least expecting you to have your masters to be competitive. Also, as someone who comes from parents who have their own business, it is not easy to start your own business even with a degree, so it definitely won't be easy with your Google knowledge or advice from others. Honestly, it just sounds like you are lazy and tend to quit everything you start. And you're using college being expensive as your reason to not even try. You have to be lazy to stop showing up to classes half way through your first semester. Those aren't even classes pertaining to your major. Those are the very basic English, history, and math courses that everyone takes. There is nothing overrated about college when you chose the right degree. You just seem to think good things in life come easy; it doesn't. If it was so easy that all you need is google and take advice from other successful people, than hardly anyone would be getting degrees; they would just use Google.

    • @SourStrawberrys
      @SourStrawberrys 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@xh0rn3rx That is because you have a business administration degree. Like I told the other person, there is so many business majors that you need a masters (MBA) to be competitive in that field otherwise don't bother. I also mentioned, that a degree is worth it WHEN you chose the right degree. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering. See the difference? A business degree is a waste of time unless you want to get paid to baby sit and manage other people's companies such as being manager for Sam's club, etc. Because you don't need a business degree to actually open and run your own business. However this guy is lazy, he quits everything he starts before he even truely begins. There is simply making money and there is making great money to where you don't have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet.
