    On this video I'll teach you 5 outside licks in Dorian context.
    I composed these licks so they sound "outside" enough to tickle your ear without throwing you off completely.
    ►►Tabs and backing track here: bit.ly/2LUDvNz
    The concepts I used include:
    ►Using the half diminished arpeggio over the Dorian mode.
    ►Using the melodic minor scale over the Dorian mode.
    ►Using the Dorian #4 scale.
    ►Using the Whole Tone scale half step below.
    ►Using the Diminished arpeggio.

    Dave you are without a doubt my favorite player on youtube,articulate, easy to understand and no showing off,articulation I'm sure you can shredd,but you put teaching first and that's what us players need is practical understanding. Thanks a million David

    I have learned, forgot, and relearned these licks 3-4 times. I've tried to find other fusion style lessons but I keep coming back to this one. The addition of each scale with each lick is really helpful. This lesson was a great starting point for me to create my own fusion solos. thx David!

    so b2, b5 and major7 is what I got out of this. I really like the whole tone scale a 1/2 step below. You get maj7 & b2 , but just the angular nature of the whole tone scale makes it all sound a little out. Bonus: every single note generates an augmented arpeggio! Good lesson!

    David,
    I really enjoy your videos...especially this one! Thanks for your willingness to share your knowledge and content.
    What model Ibanez are you using in this video...it seems to be equipped with a beautifully integrated Synth Pickup that seems to be a factory installation. Please let me know the exact model so that I may be able to source one (a bit of searching revealed an RG1520G...but images do not show any with a quilted top like yours...or even that type of pickup).
    Thanks!

    Hey David , its me again , another interesting video , have a question for you , what should I concern myself with first ? Building technique , or delving into the understanding of theory ( as you present so creatively ) , this is a grey area for me , and speed is an issue for me also , my favorite player to listen to is frank Zappa , mainly because of his guitar solos , I find them mystifying because of his odd scale usage and stuff , and he wasn't a speed player , but he did have moments where he did play some impossibly fast phrases , I mention him as an example of having both a wide variety theoretically , and the ability for some insane speed when he felt it served his composition well , anyway , everywhere I look , there seems to be only 2 types of information out there , creative ( which is what I think you do , and sounds fantastic ) , and speed ( which is impressive but to me , honestly boring for lack of creativity ) , is there a was to have both abilities ? When I play slow or moderate , I can play really good sounding solos , but when I try to get any real speed happening it sounds like crap , what should I do ( aside from playing in traffic ) would appreciate your feedback , thank you David !

    Another great video David. Love your Ibanez collection. By the way, what pickups are in the guitar you are using here. I love th tone of them. They have a touch of P90 in them that I like, or at least thats what I'm hearing through my half inch speaker in my laptop LOL.

    One more question regarding your wonderful guitar tone with that guitar and pickups. Is it a five way switch with the typical 2 and 3 single coil tones or is it a 3 way switch HH alone? Thanks again for all your great advice and skill sharing. Love your Channel.

    • @Wallimann
      @Wallimann  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the nice comments!
      It's a standard 5 way switch. :)

    • @jackleyton5504
      @jackleyton5504 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My comments are well deserving. I love hearing great players with new things to say and I really loved your show about how a baby learns vocabulary verses a guitarist learning how to improvise. If the guitar is a typical 5 way then I assume the single (position 2 in particular) is nice as well as the H? Actually, my Agostina Custom guitar is almost identical to your Ibanez except it doesn't have a wizard type neck...I suffer from tiny hands so this guitar has a soft C. Anyway are you happy with the split coils also? It sounded like you were using the H when I was listening. Kind Regards David and thanks for your quick replies. :)

    • @Wallimann
      @Wallimann  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the split coils sound great too!
      I don't use them that often in my setup though because I'm in a small room and there is interference with the monitors when I use them. They do sound awesome though!
