Thanks for the video. I didn't think they would be an issue this year in the Midwest due to the rain and high humidity. After the video I checked my trees against the paper test. My Juniper I was growing out didn't show signs but was infested. I used the water method. Thanks again. You Rock.

LC, right on. Spoken word, written language, invention of the wheel, movable type, printed newspaper, Wireless voice, broadcasted images, University Intranet, World Wide Web, Wi-Fi, Internet of Things, virtual immersion, 5 G of everything
Imagine if Bernie Sanders, USA's long time defender of democracy for all was able to allow every citizen from 18 to 108 access to top tier college-level courses for the sake of everyone bettering themselves.
Especially allowing those with a specific educational niche to satisfy their i t c h without first worrying about securing required funding considered a college-level course in itself.

Hi Ryan, great video on spider mites, thanks. Eight years ago I moved from the SFO Bay Area to the Sierra foothills. I never had a spider mite problem until I moved here. The Blue Oaks of our area are just crawling with spider mite, and I am lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you look at things) to have a very large Blue Oak that provides shade to my rear patio and my bonsai. Needless to say, I always have a spider mite problem. I have used all methods you mentioned with mixed successes. Additionally, I use Lady Bugs in the spring when I know there coming, so far, that seems to work best for me. I’m a little surprised that you didn’t mention predatory bugs in you video as one method. The lady bugs stay around as long as there is a food source. Once they leave, I wait a few weeks, and then get another supply. Seems to be controlling the mites on my trees, as I haven lost a tree to them. Again, great video. Bob

yaasss. i usually wrap a plastic bag with drawstrings gently over the base during the spray to help avoid too much water going in to the medium.

Ive used a 1 part lemon juice and 5 parts water spray on spider mites after jet spraying the foliage before. It was highly affective and environmentally safe

I notice mites and pests in general become an issue only when a plant is already stressed. For example, houseplants often get them in autumn and winter when it's warm enough for the mites inside, but the plants don't get enough light to boost their resistance.

Very helpful information. Look into The Amazing Doctor Zymes, not harmful to water or environments, use at night to avoid pollinators. Also released predatory insects is another option. Like lace wigs more effective than lady bugs. Also how can you tell the difference between spider mite webbing and beneficial spider webbing?

Yes, mites can hitch a ride on humans. This is the main method mites get into indoor gardens.

Using water to wash off spider mites sounds like fighting fire with a blanket. It only works if the fire is small enough.

They sound like .. elm beetle .. I put 2 confidor balls either side of my 28yr old Sliver elm tree .. it saved part of the foliage , then the following year. . Its back to normal health ..I was told that there is nothing to eradicate Elm Beetle .. but thanks to some friendly advice it worked for me .

You can't recommend chemicals but I can. I use Bayer Tree & Shrub or Merit on all my trees twice a year. Once in spring just as trees start sap flow and again in fall just as trees are preparing for winter dormancy. In conjunction I use Bayer 3 in 1 every 30 days throughout the growing season on the upper AND lower sides of the foliage. Organics are fine for someone that has a few trees but in my experience it just isn't feasible for someone that has a bonsai garden with trees numbering in the hundreds. Proactive pest control IMO is the best practice. Now here in Southern Ohio we really don't have to worry about spidermites because of the high humidity but with that high humidity brings along a whole other multitude of pests and diseases.

I have a question. Can you decandle a (thunderhead) japanese black pine the same way as regular Japanese black pine?
Mine didn't seem to produce summer buds the same as my other black pines did.
I wasn't able to find this information online.

Paper test never worked for me suddenly webs everywhere and i see a white dot crawling not even 2 spotted just pure white mites crawling on top of leaves not under the leaves no damage even, even had webs go from plant to fly tape against gnats, no idea why recently learned ficus tree's are mite magnets i have 2 ficus micro carpa ginseng under 60 to 70% humidity and recently got big ficus tree elastica tinneke that had few webs on them.

Question. After watching this video, I realized that My majesty palm has the mites. I also had them in some logs that I brought into my home from outside. I'm pretty much ready to throw all of them out, But I am worried that they may have climbed up my wall to my hanging plants and maybe across my living room about 3 1/3 yards to another tree type plant that I have..Any comments. The tree seems fine.. Thank you in advance. You're great!

    • @jakebonsai2165
      @jakebonsai2165 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Spidermites cannot crawl up walls, they are a mite not a spider. They are transported to plants by different vehicles such as wind, animals especially birds, and even humans. You are most likely to spread spidermites to your indoor plants via your clothing but crawling up walls you do not need to worry about.
